NVIDIA RTX3080 can't run Hitman 3's Ray Tracing effects smoothly even at 1440p with DLSS Performance

From DSO Gaming: "IO Interactive has just released the Ray Tracing patch for the PC version of Hitman 3, and boy do these RT effects require a high-end GPU. As we’ve already reported, IO Interactive has used Ray Tracing in order to enhance the game’s reflections and shadows. And, from what we can see, even an NVIDIA RTX3080 is unable to run these RT effects smoothly at reasonable resolutions."

Oof man, keeping that off then. It runs buttery smooth maxed out on my 3070. More than happy with that. Ray Tracing is awesome, but most of the time it's just not worth the performance cost.

ABizzel11069d ago

I agree RT reflections and global illumination will become more common over the next few years, but as of now it's just not ready due to the performance cost. RTX 4000 series should help with things like this with the rumored 2x performance across the board, but still this is a Max-out PS4/XBO era game tanking current flagship GPUs, so even with 2x the performance while impressive we're still another 3+ years before we get amazing RT performance in the most demanding games.

Eidolon1069d ago

Was never impressed by RT. I have a 3060 TI. just don't think RT is worth the performance hit, wish they would implement something other than better reflections or hope they could intelligently design great lighting and reflections while efficiently using those RT cores.

Ray traying is meh, one of the reason why I went with 6900 xt rather than rtx 3080 ti. Not worth the money.

JeffGUNZ1068d ago

I just don't get what Nvidia are trying to do with ray tracing. They introduced it with the 20 series. I have a 2080 OC'ed, and NEVER run Ray Tracing as it is a performance tank. You'd think a 3080 would be able to run it efficiently and still can't. IDK why they tout this but their cards can't handle it.

Could be due to poor optimization on the devs part though. We've seen countless games that run just fine on 3000 series GPUs with RT at high resolutions / framerates.

lonewolf101069d ago

Appears that way to me, maybe a consequence of adding RT after the fact?

porkChop1069d ago

It also depends on what is being ray traced, and how much of that is happening on screen.

fr0sty1069d ago (Edited 1069d ago )

Hit the nail on the head. Are we just tracing reflections, or are we doing shadows, global illumination, etc. and doing them all at a high resolution? These are the things that tax RTX hardware, not just how much, but how high quality.

Perhaps they've aimed a bit high for the combination of quality plus quantity of objects getting ray traced, the types of ray tracing used, etc... but at least this title will grow into future hardware as it is released, it can act as a benchmark in the mean time.

Graphics cards are a waste of money.........you got the top end cards barely doing native 4k 60FPS.

-Hermit-1069d ago

Barely? the top end cards can play any game at 4K 60fps.

DivineHand1251068d ago

This article contradicts that claim

@DivineHand125

Read it again. Where does it say top end cards can't run games at 4k 60fps? Are you forgetting the numerous settings you can change to get 4k 60fps?

Neonridr1068d ago

consoles have graphics cards too.

jeromeface1068d ago (Edited 1068d ago )

@divinehand125 the article is full of shit, i put on all RT effects and slap dlss to performance and suddenly im getting 60fps average in the benchmark at 4k (3090 FE)

This is one of the best ray traced games out

HITMAN Freelancer Review, Agent 47 at His Very Best

ESTNN Wrties: "When Hitman's World of Assassination was revealed at E3 2015, IO Interactive probably didn't expect the Odyssey they would go on with this project. Over 8 years and 3 releases, IO Interactive went from being owned by Square Enix to being picked up and published by Warner, only to go independent with the final entry.

This sounds messy on paper, but IO Interactive also casually released the best stealth game ever made and one of the best titles of the past 10 years. While other franchises tried to be more accessible to wider audiences, the Hitman Trilogy doubled down and focused on the core strengths of the series while also being respectful of its own legacy."
