The Salt and Sacrifice price has gone up significantly in some countries, with Brazil seeing nearly a 3x price increase over its original price due to Sony.

I think they picked up on the fact that Sony customers are just begging to pay more for their games. smart move.

Apparently the GBP price went down, though many other places went up. According to the Ska devs, Sony saw the price was much lower on the EGS, and so they forced a price match across all platforms. But Ska says they don't have any control over individual country prices, so I'm a bit confused here.

If Ska didn't set initial low prices, then that means Sony initially set all these different prices per country, but then because of this agreement it caused them to raise the prices they set themselves? And it isn't like it equates to $20 USD converted now. Turkey, for example, could apparently preorder this game for 33 Lira. That's only a little over $2USD, and bumping it to 153 Liras only gets it to a little over $9USD.

Some gaps need filling here, things don't feel like they're adding up with what little info we've got at the moment.

It really is confusing as to why these price policies weren't set before launch. No other Sony game on PC storefronts had the same issue.

Just wanted to add that pure currency convertions don't quite represent the severity on these bumps. Here in Brazil, the price tag went from R$37.99 to R$104,90. If you convert that to USD, it's a change from $7.39 to $20.44, which I reckon seems pretty fine in the eyes of an american.

The difference lies on our countries' purchasing power. In the US, even if you get the lowest possible wage ($7.25/h according to Google), it takes less than 3 hours of work to buy the game. But in Brazil, R$37.99 equates to almost 7 hours of work. R$104,90 equates to 19 hours - that's 3 days of work. It's 8.6% of our monthly income. And we're not even talking about AAA.

It’s hard to equate dollars per hr in each country . It may take 3 hrs to buy the game in US but I’m positive the cost of living is much higher here in US and people who make 7.25 hr are the poorest people in the country or high school kids .

@LtSunshine

Yeah, I know purchasing power is totally different from place to place. Certainly no qualms there. I was simply trying to say that if the price bump was truly to match across storefronts and that raised the price, but the price isn't raised up to match a $20 USD equivalent, what metric are they using to raise the prices? What caused this "price match" mechanism to kick in, and why such a seemingly arbitrary price hike?

It's about import tariffs, tbh. I think Sony's digital publishing is out of the UK, so they get a double whammy of not being in the EU and Brazil is pretty bad with the import of even software unless you move manufacturing and packaging/pressing to their country.

But, also, your comment makes little sense since some regions are paying less for the same reason (VAT results in lower taxes overall).

Thanks for cleaning this up Chris. I don't understand 'because the Sony' arguments.

Please don't bring up facts because there are certain agendas people are trying to push

'Due to Sony' is not a thing. It's not a complete idea or sentence. Do better.

"Sony saw that the prices on the EGS were "much lower than Sony", and they thus forced to match the game's prices on all platforms"

I'm sorry what? I highly doubt Sony can do that.

TicklefistCP713d ago

You're a smart guy. You'll figure it out.

Eonjay713d ago

Chris already explained it. It's about VAT. It's not actually about Sony. Some people have such a hard on for that company lol. 'its cloudy today because Sony' lol. The article wants you to believe that Sony is singlehandedly responsible for international tax law.

Some of these guys hating on PlayStation are mad at another company for delaying their games but trying to take their frustrations out on PlayStation

melons713d ago

someone messed up with codes for this on PS too, hence why there's 1 single review for either PS4 or PS5 on Metacritic and nothing really on YT

This title should be changed... It's just wrong!

Doesnt sound like a sony issue.
