He used to be some sort of sound techinician or something and had gathered friendship with Movie directors for some reason. He's even worked on "4 Brothers" and is rumoured to work on "The Sparrow " with brad pitt ( He mentioned this, he used to work for movie sites). But who the frick cares about that, lol.

Anyway, article wasn't bad, and if someone like him plays games, who else does?!

sonarus5609d ago

It appears he is just some random movie blogger...but his points are legit

MURKERR5609d ago

he has alot to catch up on lol

ultimolu5609d ago

Does it matter?
All I know is that this is one of the most sensible pieces I have ever read as of right now.

PrimordialSoupBase5609d ago

This guy doesn't wind up saying anything, it's all conjecture.

Baka-akaB5609d ago

I dont know but he's telling the truth everyone see's or refuses to .

Game journalism has been corrupted for a very long time , but it has reached even blogs ....
Once upon a time game blogs site and news outlet were a breath of fresh air ... sure you could only mesure up their serious and credibility to the fact that they were done by passionate people ...

But now it's corrupted to the point that you can only expect hatred for any good game from a "competitor" ... or on generalist sites people following each sides according to their whims and personal agenda .

The worst part of it is when quite amateurish blogs and newsites (come on kotaku ? ) , now try with some nail polish to looks respectable and pro .

I was even amazed to see some of them giving lecture to ign , gamespot , 1up etc ... especially gamestop with the kane and lynch fiaso .... when they're even worse than the already corrupt true gaming press .

morganfell5609d ago

Other than the fact this guy uses commas the way Hemingway used periods, he makes some extremely valid points. Kotaku is a wide ranging and a much visited site when one includes all of their satellites.

To borrow from Vincent Furnier, Kotaku is like a "stumbling, demented, child-king."

- Ghost of Sparta -5609d ago (Edited 5609d ago )

1up (EGM), Kotaku, and Edge-Online (Edge magazine). 3 websites / magazines that need to be shut down.

kwyjibo5609d ago

Shut down because you disagree with their opinions? Because you joined the invisible dots and noticed glaring anti-PS3 conspiracy bias?

morganfell5609d ago

Well kwyjibo, in The Adventure of the Beryl Coronet you will find the famous line:

"It is an old maxim of mine that when you have excluded the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."

prowiew5609d ago

I dont think you can blame the gaming media for not reaching hollywood. I blame the gaming community, gamers. Fanboys who cant stand a bad news of their system. And if an editor reports that he is on their 5 xbox 360 because of RROD, then he is lying and that website is biased. If someone reports that LBP dint sell that well, then they are biased. I love gaming and always has but gaming community is one of the worst in the world. But what the hell, these fanboys entertain me at work with their comments.
ps: Where in the hell are all those 360 fanboys that make me laugh. I miss them. RIP

kwyjibo5609d ago

That line is repeated throughout the Holmes series. It refers to specific leads and motives, not the entire infinite probability space in which conspiracies operate. I don't know how you'd apply it to this context.

At no point does Holmes suggest that every single case was a conspiracy by the British government to discredit his detective agency due to their dissatisfaction with his and Watson's relationship. He'd probably dismiss that as impossible though, so maybe you were onto something.

----

@ the phantom disagrees above - Well done, you've disagreed with a question! It's time to disagree with punctuation next; what a horrible use of the semi colon!

Homicide5609d ago

These websites suck because they're biased against PS3 :)

morganfell5608d ago (Edited 5608d ago )

Really. Where else does it appear? Well?

And it does fit the situation exactly. The leads we have here are what one would think to be disconnected commentary but when taken together, eliminating the accidental, we are left with the truth. Sheer fact. Logic is painful, isn't it.

It all fits. You just don't like the size of the fit. A fit after all would be what you are having.

kwyjibo5608d ago

Morgan, doesn't the fact that your quote calls it an "old maxim" suggest that he uses that phrase, or something to similar affect all the time? Google it, it's not hard.

Quotes may show you to be well read, but when you fail to catch the context, it's nothing but rote learning. Like the kid reciting the times table without an understanding of multiplication.

No, the Holmes quote does not qualify every conspiracy theory. It does no certify in provable logic the selective memory of these conspiracy theorists. Just because you join the some dots regarding the possible moon landing fakeries, or improbably clown kennedy assassination theories, it doesn't make it truth.

You can't just select facts you want and discount those you don't in your analysis. A few disparate facts do not a connected motive make. Maybe you should start applying Occam's Razor instead of your own flawed analysis of Holmes.

I literally cannot believe that anyone who is familiar with Holmes would quote such a line in defense of conspiracy theories. But then again, I have no idea of your character, but right now, you resemble professional "Obama is a Muslim" douchebag Andy Martin - "I am an analyst and expert opinion columnist. I take “facts” that may or may not make sense in isolation, and I analyze them until patterns emerge and conclusions are apparent."

It's called conspiracy theory, and no matter how much you want to pin your literary credentials to make those ill founded conclusions stick, it doesn't work. Try reading Foucault's Pendulum.

Still, the line about the fit was pretty good, if irrelevant, so well done.

morganfell5608d ago

Well? Where else does it appear? Well? The next time you enter a thread and shoot your mouth off try reading a book first. I am just going to do the efficient thing and put you on ignore. I really despise little roaches like you that when proven wrong they start into a 30 minute dissertation attempting a mental slight of hand to redirect attention away from their error. Sorry, you were wrong.

You are the one that are completely off the point of Doyle's commentary. You think two dimensionally and believe the remark is tied to the physical rather than the esoteric. It was precisely situational analytic that was the discussion when Holmes made the remark you moron. Here is another one for you pinhead, "We balance probabilities and choose the most likely. It is the scientific use of the imagination."

Having exercised your expertise on Sherlock Holmes would you care to tell us about baseball and how they punt the ball on 4th down?

And Umberto Eco? That is the best you can do? One should move toward reality not away from it. Dragging up another novel, insignificant at best, is little measure against having proven yourself such a dunce concerning the original subject. Take a hike pal.

I was wrong on this board before concerning some sales figures. Did I imitate you like a spineless coward? No I stepped into it and said, "Well I screwed that up. I was completely wrong." You on the other hand do not know the meaning of mistake unless you are jabbing an accusing finger at others.

If you can't properly frame one of Holmes' most well known quotes ever, one that has popped up from in everything from Saturday morning cartoons to Star Trek then the last think I care to hear is you attempt to explain to what point Doyle was driving his character. There are people that are less than educated and then there are the truly ignorant like you that are completely unwilling to admit an error.

kwyjibo5608d ago (Edited 5608d ago )

Just try Google next time, here's a clue, the "old maxim" thing was a dead giveaway - http://en.wikiquote.org/wik...

One should move toward reality, exactly. It contradicts your conspiracy theories. Any author would be shocked at how utterly misguided you were in the application of a quote.

In the Holmes stories, there are a limited set of hypotheses, a given amount of conclusions to prove or disprove. In his deduction, he never chooses to ignore facts which contradict his improbable findings. And his findings are provable.

In the world of conspiracy, the one you choose to inhabit, you ignore facts all the time in that infinite probability space. You pick and choose which facts you want from arbitrary sources to match whatever conclusion you choose. Counter-arguments, no matter how valid, can be dismissed as propaganda, bias, illuminati mind control.

You're not Holmes, you're Andy Martin - "I take “facts” that may or may not make sense in isolation, and I analyze them until patterns emerge and conclusions are apparent."

----

I choose not to ignore Morgan, it's not a button I'll be using at all here. It won't make any difference to Morgan, he'll continue to fail to address arguments.

It's possible that his overuse of the ignore button has led him to inhabit a bubble where his ignorant application of rote learned quotes actually has relevance, and those pesky counter-arguments don't exist.

Others however, will see the arguments for what they are.

kwyjibo5607d ago

I thought people could actually use Google, didn't think I had to spell it out.

But if you check the link I provided, you'll find numerous examples of the improbable conclusion reasoning quoted.

They do this, either to:

A: Get hits, which is respectable, but must be made clear, so as to not deceive the reader. Kotaku if this caution isn't taken, what's the difference between you and Foxnews?.

LMFAO

Baka-akaB5609d ago

there has never been any differences ...

Nathan Drake5609d ago

I said this before and I'll say it again;IF you as a website writer/journalist cannot present your OPINION in a PROFESSIONAL ans RESPECTFUL manner, then you're doing yourself and your reader-base a disservice by presenting content that is not fit for the public. It's not rocket science,it's simple ethics in your field of expertise.

"Yes, people, believe it or not, there are sites out there, that are off shoots, from console manufacturers."

It's a shame really. If the majority knew how many of these websites and or publications have standing contracts with Microsoft other than advertising,we'd be witnessing a very different gaming environment. For those wondering which other site/magazine has signed on with Microsoft,I'll give you a hint;Their name starts with an 'F'.

"The reason why the gaming industry will never reach hollywood, is because of individuals, and groups, and media networks similar to these. With motives, hidden from their readers"

Yeeeup.

Israfel5609d ago

Too bad articles like these don't make it big on N4G. He made some very valid points. Look forward to reading more from him.

LokMessier5609d ago

If I could give you bubbles I would [already gave you bubbles somewhere else :p] So hope you can do with an agree.

I'm starting to think it's time for a type of blog of gamers [who either own all three consoles and like them, or perhaps just gamers who aren't swayed one way or another] to write about various news, rumors and such. It seems that N4G is always plagued with the same thing, every rushes in after the floodgate has been opened, Posts, then leaves just to wait until the next floodgate is opened again. Kind of makes me wonder what would happen if good things were actually said about the consoles of choice and were written in a professional way...

tk5609d ago

Just follow the money and the FUD and you will know what is wrong with the "gaming media". Just paid for PR reps.

xwabbit5609d ago

Kotaku this days is a joke anyways. They use to be coo, not anymore tho. To many fan boys writing for them now.

Ar Tonelico Qoga: Knell Of Ar Ciel Retro Review – Love Conquers All

Gary Green said: You’ll be forgiven if you haven’t heard of the Ar Tonelico trilogy. The previous two games arrived so late in the PS2’s life-cycle that they simply went unnoticed. While most were tinkering with their shiny new PS3s, Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia and Ar Tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica were being ‘returned to sender’ by your local Game stores. Luckily, you won’t need to have played them to understand and appreciate this third and final chapter, Qoga (pronounced k-yoga) tells the story of a racial war between humans and Reyvateils, a breed of biologically produced female cyborgs capable of reproduction, while still having a digital mind.

That and 3D Dot Game Heroes. It's a shame that some stuff is stuck on PS3.

Microsoft’s Surface and Xbox hardware revenues take a big hit in Q3

Microsoft just posted the third quarter of its 2024 fiscal financial results. The software maker made $61.9 billion in revenue and a net income of $21.9 billion during Q3. Revenue is up 17 percent, and net income has increased by 20 percent.

Xbox content + services up 62% while hardware down 31%... seems about right with the way they tout you don't need the hardware to play. People can play on their phones or smart tv or other means. I don't hardly play on my consoles directly since getting devices like the logitech g-cloud and ps portal. Which is to also say I have been playing more digital than physical because of these devices.

solideagle14h ago

you should apply in MS PR team buddy, I think you will do a great job in my humble opinion :)

Sonic188111h ago

I thought darthv72 and Obscure_Observer already work for Microsoft 🤔

dveio11h ago

MS: "Xbox services and content without AB up 1%, with AB up 62%. Hardware down 31%. In total a loss of 350 mill."

darthv72: "Seems about right."

MS: "Excuse m ..."

darthv72: "I don't hardly play on my consoles directly."

MS:

Lightning776h ago

What he said was facts. How he plays games is no concern of you. Don't get too mad about it.

Cacabunga14h ago

I can tell people like you are an absolute minority..

If service is up means their fans and fanboys accepted this model and subscribed to it. The near future you will see a big decline because the service is saturated.

darthv7214m ago

to you it may seem like the minority... but your bubble is shrinking because more and more are following suit. convenience is a hell of a drug and its also why physical sales only amount to 30% of overall game sales. times are changing, you either get with them or you get left behind.

shinoff218313h ago

But that's been ms for years. When things aren't going their way they try to change the way things are said. For instance console sales are down, they stop telling how many sold instead telling us how many hours spent in halo or headshots. So it makes sense console sales down just say people are playing on more devices then previous. What they won't say is how many xbox players jumped ship to ps5.

Cacabunga12h ago

Hardware sales are so bad that Sony and Nintendo are blowing the sales off the water with their hardware.

If Xbox are losers, others aren’t..
Xbox already tried everything with Xbox live then subscriptions went down so much that they had to find something else. Their fans subscribed then reached saturation rather quickly.

Hardware and exclusive games is where it’s at! Keep gamers excited, announce decent software and people will support you

itsmebryan7h ago

@shin
Well keep it simple Sony 's operating income is down 26% and Microsoft's is up 32%. No MS spin there, just facts. 😉
Cheers

S2Killinit47m ago

MS is after diminishing consoles as a medium. They want to destroy this market because they couldnt win. MS’s vision is to dissolve console gaming.

romulus236h ago

Odd that a company that touts you dont need the hardware to play is already touting another console in the works.

darthv726h ago

They are not reliant on the HW but still want to maintain a presence (no matter how small) is a good thing. It shows commitment to the craft. It reminds me of SNK and how they made games for their own hardware (Neo Geo) while also making them for others because they knew there was a market to do so. They knew they would sell more to others but also sell to their own niche fan base.

TheEroica30m ago(Edited 30m ago)

Perfectly reasonable post down voted by insecure corporation friendly folk.... But not gamers. Real gamer want accessibility and ease of acquisition for all.... Company shills are the only ones still telling us that hardware locking people from games is good for us.

Xbox hardware revenue tanks to lowest point of Xbox Series generation

Profchaos16h ago

I'm not surprised surface is struggling they aren't relevant anymore

DOMination-6h ago

In the last two years they've started exiting the consumer market altogether. All of the newest Surface products are business models only. They can't seem to work out what they want to do with it.

XBManiac15h ago

Too expensive hardware when others offer the same or more for less? Good work, Green Team.

SimpleDad15h ago(Edited 15h ago)

"Despite some early successes for Xbox games on rival platforms, Xbox hardware is down by a massive 31 percent this quarter."
"Without Activision Blizzard, Microsoft’s overall gaming revenue would have actually declined this quarter."
"Xbox content and services would have only been up a single percent without Activision Blizzard..."
"It looks like next quarter is going to be a similar story for gaming at Microsoft, too."

That is crazy... so A/B/K is carrying the whole Xbox gaming.
Oh and Microsoft will be fine. Windows, Office and Cloud are growing with each pc purchase.

purple10115h ago

Activision: "we gonna need a bigger rucksack/backpack please"

Microsoft: "why's that"

Activision: "to carry yo' weak ass'

Profchaos14h ago(Edited 14h ago)

Top brass have also wanted to start seeing returns on the 100 billion they have put into various Xbox related moves so seeing more multiplatform games is highly likely especially from abk

It's basically saying that PlayStation is the reason Xbox is afloat right now thinks to Ps5 versions of COD

Kornholic13h ago

So basically PS and PC gamers' money is keeping Xbox on life support.

MrDead6h ago

The only growth MS will get out of the console industry is if it supports it's rivals platforms. Xbox is a pointless machine now. I can see them on a big push for live next, and they won't give up on trying to buy Steam.
