Battlefield 2042: "Almost Everyone" at DICE Working on Game; Hovercraft Running on Walls to Be Fixed

"Almost everyone" at DICE is still working on Battlefield 2042 according to a dev; the Hovercraft being able to climb walls is about to get fixed.

ABizzel11156d ago

I disagree with nearly everyone here. Why would anyone want them to move on, so they can rush to another project and launch another dead IP.

There have been several awful launches that have gone on to be huge turnarounds (No Man's Sky), or at least decent and finally offer what fans wanted (Fallout 76). Battlefield can at least make a Fallout76 comeback, but learning from this BS is what's more important from a developer standpoint. Simply getting an understanding of what is going wrong, what skills they're missing, and learning what tools they need to get the job done are all valuable experience they can bring into future games to make sure this BS doesn't happen again.

Keep the entire team on this IP, and allow them to re-work the game engine so that the tools are better, and the job knowledge is team-wide so fans can enjoy the type of games they should expect on Day 1. In the meantime let Respawn lead the shooter genre for EA.

Fix the game and give Battlefield a LONG REST (at least 4 - 5 years)
Gain developer knowledge so these mistakes don't happen again
Fix/Update the Game Engine (Otherwise, Forstbite will be another UE5 victim)
Demote Project leaders with a consistent history of poor design choices
Create small project teams to start making sequel(s) / new IP so the core components are done
EA get off of the developer's back and forcing them to meet unrealistic deadlines

Too late but keep trying in my opinion

aaronaton1157d ago

I've got BF2042 on PS5, and if they think they can charge me for any new content after ive spent £60 on this, they're thick as pig shit.

seanpitt231157d ago

What a waste of dev time that is.. move on who is running the show here total bad management this game is dead in the water it will never be fixed it’s way to far gone.. learn from your mistakes and focus on the next game bloody hopeless the lot of them

Sircolby451157d ago

The game is fundamentally flawed. 128 Players was a terrible idea. At this point they need to learn some major lessons and move on to the next one. This one is flatlined.

theHunter Call of the Wild is the best hunting game ever made. I understand it may not be everyone's cup of tea, it can be really slow going. But the environments (they look phenomenal, especially for a 2017 game!), the satisfaction of finally landing a Gold or a Diamond keep you coming back for more. I have over 600 hours in it, my dad in his 70's has around 1,500 in it! The only game he plays, even bought a PS4 Pro for it back in 2019 lol We get on almost every week to catch up bc we live about 4,000 miles apart overseas. New Snowy Canadian map is coming out this next Tuesday. I highly recommend this one! 👍

**I'm really happy to see Eiyuden Chronicles on here. I was about to buy that one after replaying the Suikoden Remasters recently!

jznrpg4d ago

How’s the ballistics in the game? If it’s done well I may check it out.

OtterX3d ago

they've gotten better with some updates throughout the years, but I wouldn't say they are perfect. But they're good enough that it's still a lot of fun. If you hang around their discord a while, you'll see quite a number of avid real life hunters who are pleased enough.

andy854d ago

Yeesh. Pretty awful tbh and the PS premium support is shocking

repsahj4d ago

They should combine the premium and extra subscriptions and use the extra pricing for it.

OtterX3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Yea, that was my biggest complaint. If it weren't for my Portal, I would have cancelled my Premium. But it looks like they've leaned in on the streaming aspect as a selling point of Premium now, instead of the Classics. :\ I do like the streaming on Portal!

Npugz74d ago

Ps plus extra has been garbage this year

KwietStorm_BLM4d ago

Firebreak has been surprisingly fun. Can't wait for the full game. And Deus Ex!

Vince Zampella: Battlefield "Absolutely Can" Outsell Call of Duty; BF2042 Was Not a "Failure"

Battlefield franchise boss thinks Battlefield "absolutely can" outsell Call of Duty, but says they're not targeting that with the next entry.

TheNamelessOne271d ago

Feel like if that were true, we would have seen it during the BF3/4 era. Just focus first on releasing a Battlefield that's actually feature complete, well put together, that people actually want to play right out of the gate. Hoping Zampella can make this happen.

JEECE271d ago

The best opportunity was BF1 vs. Infinite Warfare. I've never actually seen a worldwide sales comparison so I'm not convinced BF1 didn't eventually win, but I do know COD sold better in the US at launch, because it was the NPD #1 that year, while BF was #2.

SonyStyled271d ago

The best opportunity was with BC2 and BF3. BF4 dropped the ball with a short campaign and bugged multiplayer at launch

Cacabunga271d ago

Release a decent game and let the mouth to eat do the rest.. you choose to release another BF4 then blame yourselves for it

JEECE270d ago

@SonyStyled

Definitely not BC2. I love the Bad Company games (even though everyone always pretends the first one didn't exist), but even though BC2 has achieved great respect in hindsight, at the time it came out a lot of casuals who bought COD every year either didn't know of Battlefield's existence or saw it as a knockoff of COD. Plus coming out in spring 2010 it was competing against MW2 (the original one) which came out the prior fall.

ChronoJoe271d ago

I mean, the title of the game doesn't have a lot to do with how it sells. The next game is not going to change things but Zampella course change the course of the series towards something that's more on track with that those big player numbers.

With that said, battlefield fans might not want that. To acquire the wider audience they would probably need to betray a lot of the series design principles. Call of Duty is as popular as it is because it is as simple as it is.

"BF2042 Was Not a "Failure"

Suuuuuuure thing little buddy...

excaliburps271d ago

In his defense, BF2042 did turn things around eventually though still falls short of franchise expectations if you based it on BF4, BF3, BF1.

trez1082271d ago

Hated it at lunch, came back a two years after and it was an absolute blast. Not sure how it did sales wise to be called failure or success but BF2042 is a pretty good game .

ElaBosak270d ago

In what way was it a failure exactly?

Outside_ofthe_Box271d ago

Microsoft would just buy EA if that happens.

8bitAssassin271d ago (Edited 271d ago )

We don't need more games ruined. It's like that company puts water on their bread before they eat it.

Inverno271d ago

Here we go again with rubbing mouths. BF has been a flop consistently since BF4, and I mean flop as in disappointing to the fan base due to the technical issues each has had and the gameplay changes needlessly made. Shut up and make a good BF before hyping up another potential disappointment.

Fishy Fingers271d ago (Edited 271d ago )

Bro gave one pretty decent interview and answered the questions he was asked. Not really his fault if people want to cherry pick quotes for "content".

Stick to reading source https://www.ign.com/article...

X-23271d ago

I don't mind them claiming BF2042 wasn't a failure so long as they learned from it and use that experience moving forward into the new game, it was terrible at launch but towards the end it got a bit better. I don't want to see the same thing play out with the new BF though because the ones who are still interested in the franchise have been pretty vocal with what they want and don't want from Battlefield.

ElaBosak270d ago

Learn what exactly? The game was great.
