The Quarry: 30 Minutes of Gameplay

April's IGN First is The Quarry, Supermassive Games' spiritual successor to 2015's teen horror hit, Until Dawn. Check out the first 30 minutes of gameplay from The Quarry which all takes place during the game's prologue. Starring Skyler Gisondo as Max, Siobhan Williams as Laura, and Ted Raimi as the extremely creepy Travis. The Quarry arrives on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series and One, and PC via Steam this June.

Looks good to be the spiritual successor to Until Dawn

They really make sure you know what you're getting into right away. Good scene direction for what they showed.

CaptainHenry916784d ago

I absolutely agree. It looks more polish as well. You can tell that they put in way more effort and budget into this than the dark pictures anthologies. I'll definitely check it out but don't know which platform yet.

Until dawn was one of my favorite games of last gen. I'm excited for this.
Edit: Since this is multiplat I wonder if until dawn will make its way to xbox? That would be great!

CaptainHenry916783d ago (Edited 783d ago )

I think Sony owns the Until Dawn IP. I mean Sony is the publisher for that game

InUrFoxHole783d ago

That sucks. The more people who get to play it the better imo

CaptainHenry916783d ago (Edited 783d ago )

The only way that can happen if Supermassive buys back the IP. It's a lot of money to do that.

InUrFoxHole782d ago

Yeah. I don't imagine anyone would do that. I do like that sony and xbox are putting the games on PC. Some of the games are hidden gems and deserve as much attention as they can get.

That face reminds me of Uncharted 4 when you go back and relive their past

Their games have been hit and miss

Looking forward to this one. Was a big fan of Until Dawn.

Christopher784d ago

My problem with Until Dawn, and likely this one, is that it's designed for replaying multiple times. That kind of defeats the purpose, IMHO, of creating your own story. Instead, they had you finding collectibles, goals of saving various people, etc. I only played it through once, earned 3/19 trophies, and liked the story I created. Wish the trophies respected the story building more than just making sure people played the game multiple times.

Sorry, bit of a side rant. But, just the thought is still with me on this.

Muigi784d ago

See that’s my favorite part, exploring different outcomes. I will say I’m 6 trophies away from a plat in Detroit and Until Dawn respectively. So I definitely get your point about the collectables lol.

Charlieboy333783d ago (Edited 783d ago )

Well if you were happy with your playthrough and the outcome of your choices then that's that. I personally only played though Detroit once as well and was satisfied enough with how everything turned out that I didn't feel the need to replay it differently. However the draw for a lot of people with games like this is the fact that you can redo them differently and in the case of Detroit, experience completely new scenes, endings and even entire levels based on what you do and say. I just see it as adding replayability for those that are so inclined.

***Well if you were happy with your playthrough and the outcome of your choices then that's that. ***

Me being happy with the story I created doesn't mean I'm happy with the design choice. TellTale games allow people to do exactly what you mention, but they don't have a focus on extraneous things or make people feel like they need to replay it to experience "everything" via achievements/trophies.

Pause at 4:17 with thing in back seat as going down hill.

It was hard to see on my phone with the glare and it being so dark but I liked what I saw. I never got into the bite sized seasonal games from them but until dawn is one of my favorite horror games. I’m hyped for this one. I saw the preorder has “80s clothing skins” which is also dope lol.

Review wise Bayonetta got trashed. But I guess it is the only action title released this year so easy win.
Horizon is a good game but you spend far more time crafting and gathering than anything else not to mention the long cut scenes. Elden ring should have won open world award.

jznrpg539d ago

Crafting is fast especially when you upgrade ….

HeliosHex539d ago (Edited 539d ago )

@jz Yeah but still I found it boring. Almost felt like a second job. But that's just me you know I prefer my open worlds with less of that monotony.

Army_of_Darkness539d ago (Edited 539d ago )

I actually didn't mind Gathering items to craft new weapons and material because it brought me to new places and battle encounters with different type of enemies, made me reassess my battle techniques for more efficient ways to kill specific machines while trying to not destroying the part I need to acquire. I found it fun and challenging. Lol! Funny enough it literally was a second job in the game 🤣 but nevertheless , HFW would definitely be my GOTY.

Flewid638539d ago

Bayonetta is also hardly a AAA game.
