Ghostwire: Tokyo has up to 10 graphics modes - so which is best?

Ghostwire Tokyo sees accomplished developers Tango Gameworks transition from their own idtech-based engine to Unreal Engine 4, bringing with it a range of excellent graphics features. The game itself also features six different graphics modes - which is actually ten in total when considering the differences between 60Hz/120Hz on four of those modes. John and Alex discuss the technology, performance and every visual mode.

We're quickly moving away from the whole "console gaming is better because it's simple" argument.

With every generation it becomes more and more obvious console gamers want the openness of the platform, but just not foot the upfront cost.

yeahokwhatever1162d ago

Some games have detailed graphics settings, some games dont. That hasnt really changed. G-Police on the PS1 for example had a draw distance slider. I think settings that rely on specific technologies are more prevalent now (HDR, 4K, 120hz), but thats less about the console and more about what options people have for their displays.

boing11163d ago

Ridiculous tbh. This is exactly the reason I chose console gaming over pc. To avoid this kind of shit. Now whatever mode I choose to use, it feels like I'm always loosing something.

Michiel19891162d ago

you already were, it just took u a while to take the red pill.

Darkwatchman1162d ago

With there being so many modes and such glaring performance issues across pretty much all of them, no. The QA and development time spent on these 10 modes would have been better spent on 1 or 2 modes, which would have performed better and made better use of the PS5 as a fixed platform. You're not getting the benfits of console development "coding to the metal" when you have so many performance modes. You simply cannot devote the time and money to maximize them.

yeahokwhatever1162d ago

QA testing wouldn't make any difference if it was all used on two modes or 50. You're high AF if you think QA didn't spend almost all of its time on the default mode. I mean, what do you expect, QA to find MORE screen tearing?

jznrpg1162d ago

You aren’t losing anything just pick the one you like .

Neonridr1162d ago

at least you have choices now. Before you had to take what you were given. Now those who prefer higher frames can target that, those who like pretty pictures can focus on that. To each their own.

This shouldn't have happened.

Who's next..

JEECE352d ago

Ninja Theory, most likely.

tay8701352d ago

Ninja theory. Others will follow as well. The smaller studios MS owns should all be worried. Maybe MS will try and release some of their games day and date on ps5 to save some of these studios.

jznrpg352d ago

I can see Ninja Theory. At least Tango made a game that was reviewed well. Ninja Theory spent a lot of years to release a tech demo that didn’t do well at all.

repsahj352d ago

I get it that Hellblade 2 is a boring game, but I hope they are not the next to be closed.

ABizzel1351d ago

@repssahj

Ninja Theory is likely on the chopping block too. They released Bleeding Edge which bombed, took 4 years to release Hellbalde 2 which doesn’t seem to be doing well, and still have Project Mara in limbo. They’re high on the chopping block.

MS was likely expecting their God of War / Uncharted quality game from NT based on Heavenly Sword, Enslaved, DmC, and to an extent Hellblade 1, but NT hasn’t delivered since Hellblade 1 which was 7 years ago.

I rarely agree with you but on this I do!

PRIMORDUS352d ago

3 trillion MS is worth, yet they do this, well Phil the shit bag did. No studio needed to be let go, when you are worth this much.

anast352d ago

Sad, but I see characters and posters of either less than average or barely average games.

LoveSpuds352d ago

Have to disagree here duder, with respect. Evil Within was a good game and the sequel was fantastic, as was HiFi Rush. I'd concede Ghostwire was pretty average but regardless, shuttering a studio which just put out MS best game in donkeys years was complete shithousery on XBox' part.

Einhander1972352d ago (Edited 352d ago )

Microsoft paid 8B to buy Zenimax then fired well over 1000 people from Zenimax between the time they closed the deal and they announced these shut downs.

People talk about the 1900 they fired most recently, but that was only one wave of three sets of layoffs from their gaming division so far this generation totalling around 5000 people this generation. Not counting the dozen plus studios they canned last gen including Lionhead the original Fable developers.

anast352d ago

By every real metric HiFi was an average game. I don't see an Evil within poster in the thumb, which is a shame, because if they threw their weight behind that IP, they might have still been around.

LoveSpuds352d ago

I don't understand how you can say it was average in every metric when it garnered the reviews it did?
