Honestly, every AAA 3d video game in the last 20 years has been deeper in the uncanny valley then say a mannequin (at least in terms of pure appearances, not animation), which is one of the classic examples. If you showed the weird rubbery video game characters of today to audiences 40 years ago, they would think they were uncanny. We just get used to the weird looking characters every generation. That and having better facial expression animation than a puppett or mannequin makes a difference.

It's only really in the eyes... they are too bright, not quite reflecting/refracting light properly. I think this uncanny valley is caused by art direction more than technical limitations.

Looks believe-able enough to me, one day it'll be almost impossible to distinguish a game from real life.

Lost my jaw there for a while.

Tech demo…so expect these visuals ten years from now in actual playable videogames,

porkChop1181d ago

Pretty much. Usually when you see a tech demo you can expect those graphics from the following generation.

Though Unreal really surprised the hell out of me when the demo became playable. Sure, it wasn't as good looking as the other intro scenes, but it came damn close, closer than I expected... so I wouldn't be shocked at all to see games looking like this before the end of this gen. Maybe not on base models of these consoles, but it'll get there.

That bit with her tongue was a great little touch!

Binarycode1181d ago

I thought she looked very good, close to real.

Interesting part is that we'll be seeing this kind of thing this gen from Unity and Unreal Engine 5. And that's just Third Party Game Engines. First Party will do as well or better. There's still gamers thinking TLofU 2 was black magic running on 1.8 teraflops. Hate to tell them what 10 and 12 will do with the right devs.

Those above might not agree but it's going to happen. Sure. It's a demo. The ones that got to *PLAY* The Matrix demo or saw it are begging to differ. And even that was just a demonstration of what we'll see soon enough on an engine not finalized.

The best part is the VR implementation we'll see with the eye tracking Sony will have. Scary and beautiful at the same time. They just don't know.

That's great, Oblivion Remastered already on sale! Think I'll jump in.

I feel like Lunar Remastered should have been included on this one too though.
