This guy is absolutely tone deaf. Part of what makes racing games fun is that we can drive luxury vehicles without having to worry about real world concepts like price, speeding tickets, car crashes etc.

The question is if that is true, or that their goal is to get as much out of microtransactions as possible.

Nothing wrong with making car prices realistic, however issue is earning rate, even real world racers make a ton more than what you're earning per race, so if they wanted to be "realistic" they can copy that too

I have no problem, at all, with making items of higher "value" progression elements in the game. I do have a problem when they're MTX shenanigans that make it feel like they need you to pay extra money to get them in a reasonable manner. I would not say I want to play the nicest looking cars out of the gate, that would just devalue everything you normally would play to get to that point and make a very short game in regards to progression.

I hope Sony greatly lowers the grind for obtaining things so that they feel earned and not labored for.

GT has always been grind heavy. I remember how I played a specific race more than 60 times in GT4 to farm credits. PD maybe should have kept MTs out of the game to avoid a Sh*t storm but imo the high car prices are typical for a GT.

I’ve been calling it since almost day one.

The first sign was that PS4 controllers couldn’t work on PS5 despite have the EXACT same layout.

Cross gen flagship games
Confusing upgrade paths
Closing PS3 Store
Always online games
Live service games
Expensive microtransactions

They have plans for tons of Playstation movies and mobile games.

It is going to get worse and worse…

The only thread throughout all these decisions is money.

Playstation is now being run by a suit, the likes of EA, Bethesda and Ubisoft who cares about money only.

The question is how do we get this guy out?

The good thing about PlayStation is that they are pretty progressive in their approach to gaming. They don't seem to believe in entrenched strategies, which I like. It keeps the brand flexible and evolving. I think they'll correct course soon enough, but we do need to send them feedback. Playstation gamers have always been great at that. When Sony does great work, we reward them. When they try to get sneaky, we hold them accountable. The way it's always been.

I also suspect Ryan has some hand in these actions. I was also very bothered by his appointment in the beginning. That said, I don't mind him being in leadership, so long as he responds to the consumer backlash with humility and reconciliation the way his predecessors did, it can be rectified. I still think Phil Harrison was hands down the worst of Sony, but they made things right in due time because their fans are pretty serious about gaming.

Let's hope for positive developments. Kaz has to take some heat too. There's no reason this game's offline status should be so pervasive.

Totally, I remember grinding the entire day to buy an F1 car. Now there's an option to buy it using real currency.

Personally, I'm a fan of GT Sport. Online races kept me playing that game for 4 years.

There are now numerous glitches that weren't there before. For example, just now on Willow Springs, I was winning a 10 lap race when all of a sudden my car just cut out of power and puttered along like driving Miss Daisy, then came to a complete frozen stop on screen, wasting over 10 minutes of my time and robbing me of my 65 grand victory winnings.

I have now lost all motivation to grind my way to buying vintage cars, that I owned previously in Gran Turismo Sport but was also robbed of them by greedy developers.

I will now sell this game to recoup some funds and shall go back to playing and completing, the infinitely superior Horizon Forbidden West.

I take it all completely back what I said above. You are 100% correct CML2, that is exactly what happened.

I'm a prized t*t and a nincompoop. I have played the game through to completion and never used the refuelling feature during races.

Earlier today, when the game servers came back online, I disabled all of the on screen race information for the first time and it just foolishly never occurred to me that is precisely what occurred. Being the gargantuan tw@t that I am, I never realised that my car had actually run out of fuel and NOT glitched & frozen.

I have completed the game including the 38 or so cafe tasks, all licences, winning the various tournament trophy cups along the way, seeing the end credits and opening up all the tracks, I have not taken part however, in most of the longer races as they were not necessary in order to progress and open up more tracks. I managed to do all that and still missed one of the most important features of the game. What a complete bell end trouser trumpet I've been to miss that.

Those longer and higher prize money races that I missed, must be the ones with the fuel consumption. Gosh, this means that there must be a tonne of stuff that I missed. I'll have to catch up on more races in this top-notch game. Have a tremendous weekend CML2 and happy racing.

Oh and while we're at it, it might be nice to address the always online thing for single player. This statement was a lot of words that said basically nothing at all, aside from trying to excuse some terrible decisions. No apology and no in-game gift such as credits or a car. That was the very least they could have done, since they effectively locked everyone out of the game they paid real money for, for over 24 hours

Poor response from Kaz and Polyphony imo. First thing should be to disable the online requirement for single player. That would be a good start. Everyone will have their own opinion about the grinding versus mtx route of unlocking cars. This used to be the pinnacle of sim racing. Ashamed it has come to this.

Touche. Elden Ring seems to be an exception to the rule. Only reason I have not picked up Elden Ring is because of my back log. However, I have a feeling that all of the great things I have been hearing about it are going to make my back log seem boring really quick and I will probably pick it up soon. Do you know if it runs better on the Series X or PS5? Most of my friends are playing it on PS5 so if there is no significant difference, I will likely end up with the PS5 version fairly soon.

I hope they can find a permanent solution one the fans like and deserve. Two ideas I have is reduce the cost of the cars and separate them from real life prices. A good chuck of classic cars are pricey as they are in the real world but we don’t want to grind or use MT to get them. Also add multiple races that take say 5 or so minutes but give like 100K or something but not tied to one car and track. We need continuity multiple races and cars that can offer the same rewards/credits so we don’t get burned out by the grind. It could spice things up if we have more races available with just as good credits as each other or the same. I appreciate Kaz saying something of this stupid matter. I reckon it’s more a Sony thing than PD.

They are in the business of making money. As if there is not enough evidence already in the industry (Ubisoft, EA, Take Two, etc.)

I honestly dont want to grind more and my only alternative is using MT, i also dont want cars handed out easily to me, this just kills the feeling of being rewarded, and it is why i dont play horizon anymore, 5 hours in and i have most hyper cars.

Bottom line is, just revert the credit earnings to where they were before the patch.

Agree that there has to be balance. I lost interest in Horizon rather quickly because I was getting legendary cars in no time at all. I like a nice balanced progression system, but not one that promotes MTs as a "time saver."
