Kazunori Yamauchi gives update on Gran Turismo 7

Kazunori Yamauchi - "I wanted to explain what happened in this update.

Immediately before the release of the 1.07 update, we discovered an issue where the game would not start properly in some cases on product versions for the PS4 and PS5.This was a rare issue that was not seen during tests on the development hardware or the QA sessions prior to the release, but in order to prioritize the safety of the save data of the users, we decided to interrupt the release of the 1.07 update, and to make a 1.08 correctional update. "In GT7 I would like to have users enjoy lots of cars and races even without microtransactions.
At the same time the pricing of cars is an important element that conveys their value and rarity, so I do think it’s important for it to be linked with the real world prices."

This guy is absolutely tone deaf. Part of what makes racing games fun is that we can drive luxury vehicles without having to worry about real world concepts like price, speeding tickets, car crashes etc.

Gardenia818d ago

True, but he also says:

"I want to make GT7 a game in which you can enjoy a variety of cars lots of different ways, and if possible would like to try to avoid a situation where a player must mechanically keep replaying certain events over and over again."

I hate doing that.

"We will in time let you know the update plans for additional content, additional race events and additional features that will constructively resolve this."

The question is if that is true, or that their goal is to get as much out of microtransactions as possible.

""I want to make GT7 a game in which you can enjoy a variety of cars lots of different ways, and if possible would like to try to avoid a situation where a player must mechanically keep replaying certain events over and over again"

Thing is what other choices and "ways" is he talking about?

It's like you either replay something over and over or pay for MT's

Seems like a shitty excuse to me

Bruh818d ago

Nothing wrong with making car prices realistic, however issue is earning rate, even real world racers make a ton more than what you're earning per race, so if they wanted to be "realistic" they can copy that too

Christopher818d ago

I have no problem, at all, with making items of higher "value" progression elements in the game. I do have a problem when they're MTX shenanigans that make it feel like they need you to pay extra money to get them in a reasonable manner. I would not say I want to play the nicest looking cars out of the gate, that would just devalue everything you normally would play to get to that point and make a very short game in regards to progression.

I hope Sony greatly lowers the grind for obtaining things so that they feel earned and not labored for.

And let's not forget that you can't even sell cars, you can only discard them. What part of real world are they trying to replicate by only allowing us to discard cars rather than selling them?

Then having the nerve to have a trophy for buying the same car 10 times.

Edit: also, reflecting real world prices? Who sells nitrous kits for $100k?

strifeblade817d ago

Forza actually has a real world action house for years. Gran turismo still playing catch up. I'm shocked

Nothing like spending $70 on a video game to be reminded that even digital cars are too expensive for you.

"In GT7 I would like to have users enjoy lots of cars and races even without microtransactions."

Crazy to think he actually said this *before* the top quote. Sony will take your $70 game offline for a full day and instead of doing anything any company with customer service would do, they make the game harder. You can't make this up, incredible.

Snookies12818d ago

"Sony will take your $70 game offline for a full day"

Wait what? I thought this was an issue on Polyphony's end, not Sony's.

Tacoboto818d ago

Polyphony is a first-party studio...

strifeblade817d ago

You okay??? Sony owns polyphony for years. Don't kid yourself

Binarycode818d ago

Apparently many ppl are on $20 per hour in the game.

Cars, and more cars... Yet, they rarely add new locations where we can drive all those cars... smh.

MajorLazer17d ago

We may get a new track this update. The teaser never hints at anything more than the cars, gotta wait for the trailer to know more.

IRetrouk16d ago

There's over 110 layouts in the game, you raced em all? I know I haven't and I have 900 hours playtime

Gardenia16d ago

With the daily races they only use 4 tracks it feels like.

IRetrouk15d ago

That's true, cant lie lol, but I assume you have buddy's to play online with, if not, I got a group you can join, we race every weekend, tracks are random, we even throw weather in sometimes lol

CobraKai16d ago

Wow. That’s one entitled ass comment.

Gabrielmpf16d ago

I paid €70 for way less content than the previous Gran Turismo. Yeah, I'm entitled. Bunch of PS cult boys.

CobraKai16d ago

Wah wah wah. I can’t get more free stuff than what they’re giving me. Wah wah wah

Father__Merrin16d ago

Truly a purchase once and last all gen type of game

purple10116d ago

yes it is!, however I do hope they have a GT8 ready soon, because 7 its a cross gen, so there's more to be extracted for sure,

Ok, sure. I’ll take more. There’s a lot of tracks already

Sgt_Slaughter17d ago

When you boil down the layouts/configurations, it's 38 tracks. Of those, only 19 are real-life tracks. That's a pretty low amount when there's hundreds of thousands of circuits that are available to add.

Babadook716d ago (Edited 16d ago )

That’s not low though. I don’t have a big preference for real world either, as GT7 has some very good original tracks too.
