GTA 5 on next-gen: is it worth triple-dipping on this remaster? | TheSixthAxis

GTA 5 is out now on PS5 and Xbox Series X, but how does this latest remaster take advantage of the new consoles, and is it worth buying the upgrade?

Kind of getting tired of them calling this a "remaster". A remaster indicates you actually took the original product and put effort into improving it.
They're just making use of the raw power of the new consoles and delivering a somewhat better version than was offered on the PS4/Xbox One.
Just like that version was just a somewhat better edition than that on the 360/PS3.

After 250 million sales, and billions made on shark cards alone, it's pretty greedy seeing them still being one of just a small few asking money for a glorified next gen patch.

I do think we can give credit to the improvements though. So QOL improvements are real. That decrease in load time is clutch. The graphics are on par or a little better than the vinilla PC build on Ultra settings. And yes the 60 FPS addition is also very nice. So there are improvements for sure. The question is is it worth paying for the upgrade. I think it would be had this not been the third round of being charged. I mean its just all a little much. Plus with the money they can make from Shark Cards, the game could really be FTP honestly. I mean if we want to be real Bethesda did this first so its not unheard of.

Going from PS3 to PS4 gave you the first person view at least, which was a different experience to play it that way.

That was a free patch on PC though. It was a required purchase on console.

The PC version didn't even release until after the PS4 and Xbox One versions. There was no "free patch" because it never existed on PC without first person.

I'm pretty happy with the upgrades, but I can definitely see both sides of the coin here. I never paid full price for a copy of the game though. I bought the 360 version on sale for $30 and then the Xbox One version for 15. I actually think they did a really good job with the enhancements on the series X version, particularly in the performance RT mode. You get the best of both worlds with the ray tracing and 60 FPS. It does look pretty amazing and if it weren't for some of the character models it would look like a current gen game. I can definitely see the enhancements from the Xbox One version. And playing it in 60fps does feel a hell of a lot better. Much of the jank that I complained about in previous versions is not nearly as bad in 60fps. I understand some people are going to be upset and feel ripped off that it's not enhanced enough, but I'm going to give Rockstar their flowers on this one because it's the best (console) version of one of the best games ever made! I agree that they need to stop milking this though and just put out GTA 6. I'm not a big fan of GTA online but I'm going to check this version out And hope it holds my attention more than previous iterations.

They added it, but couldn't resist adding it to the online mode instead. They could do with some sort of new single player story content to pull people back in, and I imagine a portion of those players would give the online mode a go again.

Sold my boxed copy of GTA V PS5 for £12 bought the new version for £8.75. 60fps and RT and some left over cash for snacks. It's worth it.

That's was a good lunch meal selection. With the change get yourself a Chomp for dessert, they're only 25p. It's like a poor man's Curly-Wurly, cheaper and without the mess from the chocolate flaking off everywhere.

I actually just watched a YouTube video comparing the FPS in performance mode and performance RT , although there is a marked improvement whilst playing, the FPS isn’t really that good at times , a lot of drops into the mid 40’s on the RT mode and 50’s on performance on the Series X

Oof, I mean, we're talking about perceived value here... but speaking for myself, at $10 sure. At $40, hell no! Just play the last-gen version on current-gen unless you feel some Ray Tracing and paste had times are worth a $40 investment. Like, I said, at $10... I mean that's like what I spend on lunch so yea, it's worth it.

It may be an oldie but it's still a damn good game. I forgot how much I enjoyed it until starting another playthrough And the enhancements are mighty nice. Definitely ready for GTA 6 though, But I can't be mad at them for squeezing a little more juice out of this. My only wish is that they would add some single player content but that seems to be too much to ask these days.

Definitely not for some! But definitely so for some as well. I beat the story but I never did a lot of the side content, so I'm going to take time and run through it again but do the side missions this time since everything looks and runs so lovely!

Also one thing I don't hear mentioned is that with a new generation of consoles there are many gamers who are gaming now that never played this on the previous two generations for various reasons. Maybe they were too young, things of that nature. I have a 17-year-old now who is going to get to experience the best version for the very first time. He was too young to play it previous generations but now I'm okay with him getting into it. I'm willing to bet there are a lot of gamers out there in that situation.

They make amazing games. Nearly ten years later and GTA still holds up, and is still the standard for open world games.

Their last game, Red Dead 2, was one of the best games they've ever put out.

You think GTA6 is gonna suck or something? Because I love them because they're games live up to the hype. That hasn't changed because they charge you a budget price for an upgraded version of a nine year old game while they work on their next game.

For $10 I bought it in case I ever wanted to revisit. After I finished with Forbidden West, I started on Cyberpunk for the first time with the PS5 upgrade. I just couldn't get into it. Thought I'd give GTA a try and I've been playing it for a few days now. No, it isn't some redefined experience, but it is better. It holds up extremely well and proves how ahead of its time the game was when it originally came out.

I'd rather ring in a next gen console like PS5/Series X with GTA 6. People who like GTA V hey go nuts with the rerelease I am all Los Santosed out I will most likely just skip this port.

I’d say it’s more of an upgrade much like the PC version. This is the version it was meant to be, and rightly deserves. Definitely needed whilst waiting for GTA6, it could be a while, so plenty of DLC, heists etc

I already said my piece several times about double-dipping (even triple-dipping) for the current owner of the previous generation (especially when they actually gave this game for free on the Epic Game store a while back) so I'll try to say some positive this time.

At least the game is sold only at 10$ for everybody so it's pretty cheap if you never played the game.
Sure the game will be 40$ after 3months but we know damn well that it will be offered again at 10$ every 3weeks in the usual sales.

Personally I think its great. I never finished it on ps4. But for comparison played the ps4 version before I upgraded. I think its a massive improvement over the ps4 release. I'm loving it. 60fps and loading times are the best improvements this gen imo.

Triple dip? Heck This will be my forth purchase if I can be bothered.. switched main consoles last gen so have bought the 360, X1, PS4 and PC version to date. For many, I can see why they'd disregard it but if you've never played it before, the price point is a no brainer and I hear it makes great use of the dual sense controller. It's been going this long not because of how great the online is (honestly it's grindfest trash) but because of the meticulously crafted world, the satire and most importantly, the sandbox. On the single player side of it, games of this quality are a rarity and the gameplay holds up well even today.

How many more resources do people want rockstar to dump into a 9 year old game? I’d like to think the developers focus, is on something new as opposed to dedicating too much time on an aging title. In my opinion the updates are pretty good for $10. 60fps, quicker loading of the map, haptic feedback on the dual sense and etc. i haven’t played the main story in years and I’m finding it enjoyable on the PS5.

Simple answer for me was yes, worth it. I love the visual improvements on Series X compared to the X1 version. Well worth the $10.
