A long-lost "prequel" to the River City Girls franchise, Zero holds up pretty well for a 90s game, even with shifts in story and fighting.

"Once Arc System Works took over the River City/Kunio license, numerous games starring Kunio and his buddy Riki have made their way out of Japan. WayForward’s release of River City Girls drew upon ideas from a Japanese-only Super Famicom title called Shin Nekketsu Kouha: Kunio-tachi no Banka. Almost 20 years later, WayForward has localized Kunio-tachi no Banka as River City Girls Zero, first launching on Switch and then on Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam. River City Girls Zero tells a seriously gripping story, but the frustrating gameplay will limit Zero’s appeal to only the most hardcore River City/Kunio fans," says Co-Optimus.
"At WayForward's recent pre-launch party for River City Girls Zero, the enhanced remake of the game that first introduced the titular River City Girls, we learned that the Xbox and PlayStation versions of Zero would be launching on September 13 and that the Steam port would come later. Not that much later, it turns out... RCG Zero's Steam version will arrive on September 22!
