BLG writes: "The release of Demon’s Souls in 2009, and then Dark Souls in 2011 marked a turning point for video games. A move away from spectacle and towards challenge and depth. The success of both games, Dark Souls, in particular, demonstrated that there was, and still is, a place for high difficulty, deep narrative woven into gameplay, and simple yet intricate combat. The subsequent explosion of “souls like games” has therefore come as no surprise.
But what is a souls like game? I doubt there is a single definition on which we would all agree. That being the case, for this list, I’m going to be using my own interpretation. I will be referring to any game that borrows from Dark Souls in terms of level design, narrative structure, combat style, or currency mechanics. Superficial and thematic elements are less relevant. Having said that, however, many of these games will be decidedly downbeat affairs so be warned."
The Epic Games Store's weekly freebies includes an RPG and some DLC.
Soulslikes are punishingly difficult but amongst the most compelling games. Power Up Gaming goes through the top ten Soulslikes you're likely not playing.
Demon's Souls isn't Soulslike. It's the original Souls game. WTF? And Elden Ring?
Another Crab's Treasure simply is not.
All the journos claiming things are "Soulslike" simply don't know what that word means.
Nioh 1+2 imo are the best souls clone. Love the melee combat and ki system, really hoping team ninja doesn't abandon the IP and continue with a new title, hell just give us your take on the western fantasy setting for a new nioh game.

blasphemous 1 for me.
i love the artstyle and how they didnt shy away from their imagery
but symphony of the night is also superb
Catlevanias GBA and DS games are the best! But there others that I like a lot such as Hollow Knight, Chasm etc
As much as I want Silksong, adding it to the BEST is a little premature. It's not even out yet.
Playing Forbidden West and Elden Ring this month and next at least .Everything until then will wait .
Playing Sekiro and going right into Elder Ring when I'm finished (hoping to do it with under a week left).
I didn't expect to fall into the hype but playing Sekiro got me trapped in it, between watching GI's Super Replay vids, YouTuber walkthroughs and the Elden Ring videos always showing up - the Game Informer editor especially gushing over how great it was previewing Elden Ring for their cover story.
Nioh, code vein, and jedi fallen order are good clones. Elden ring out in a week and stranger of paradise next month. Good time to be a souls style fan.
