Good this is why I like ESO can do most things without others if you want. Also no gatekeeeping on the story

Question, this game is subscription based or a one time purchase? I've heard both things about it but if it's the first, how are you okay with it?

gamer78041216d ago

No subscription necessary. One time purchase of the game and existing expansions. I spend about 30$ On sale and got up to the latest expansion. Then you have 100s of hours of content. Each zone does have one dungeon locked behind dlc purchases. So buy only what you are interested in. There is a subscription but it’s not necessary and if you unsubscribe you lose access to the dlcs. So it’s perfect for someone like me who might take breaks to play other games and not be losing money on a subscription fee. There is the cash shop for cosmetics but unnecessary. It’s a good game for those who don’t have the time to invest consistently in an mmo.

Not my opinion but from what I hear from friends: Game is F2P and is good but a bit grindy. Nothing abnormal from most MMOs. But the expansions are really great but you have to pay for them. DYOR but this a good one to check out if this is your genre of choice.

The game has a sub and you have to buy the game/expacs but it has a free trial that includes all content to end of the Heavensward expac with no playtime limits

CornholioX1216d ago (Edited 1216d ago )

The game is free to play but only the original game FFXIV A Realm Reborn and the first DLC Heavensward. So you can try the game if you want and no time limits, level up to 60 and completing the story. They're some restrictions but not so much. After Heavensward, you have to buy the complete collection and free trial ends too but you get your first month subscription for free for purchasing the game. After that it's monthly subscription you pay.

FinalFantasyFanatic1215d ago

Wait, I don't need a subscription to play the first portion of the game now? E.g. Everything including Heavensward? I have the game and that DLC, I just haven't played it because I don't have to make the subscription worth the money.

I always wanted to give this and WoW a shot. Never was a PC guy, but now have a PS5 and Xbox Series S. Might give this a shot and hopefully WoW when it comes to Xbox

Vanfernal1216d ago

FFXIV is much more accesible than WOW. If you're new to mmos I would recommend starting with Final Fantasy.

CJQNSNYC1216d ago

I used to play on consoles until discovering PC gaming back in 2010. I haven't touched one since then.

If you're a fan of great story telling in games, this is a MUST!! I was only slightly interested in FFXIV because I had heard about it, but never tried it. Well, I started it in October of last year and couldn't put it down! I went through the entire game, up through to Endgame. I had the best time with it! I'm taking a bit of break now, but will circle back to it after Elden Ring, End Of Dragons, and Lost Ark.

So many games to play!

Dont know much about FF games but the left image looks like the females in American games

I always wanted a mode where you could practice the harder trials solo since people won't play with you unless u watch a 20 min video of a fight and know every step which is just not fun to me, well say for few people
who have a patience of a saint but then i feel bad for wasting peoples time, lol

And adding the trust system for older content is good since few people plays them so it'll give you a chance to get some items without waiting in Queue/PF for hours. They are not adding trials (at least for now) but i hope they do for older content at some point, sure that would take away from the MMO aspect of the game but it's better than letting that content just die. I don't play with a group so, but i would say the current expansions should stay TRUST free since that's what everyone is doing anyways. And nothing beats real people at the end of the day, but if i have no choice then it's a good alternative.

It's nice to have options though.
Those who want to play with others can, and those who don't can still enjoy the main storyline.

A good balance would be to have the trust system for Main Scenario Dungeons and trials, but not for raids and expert dungeons/trials.

Felix3131216d ago

look-up the Sand,Sea, Sky system in game as it lets you practise boss fights before you enter the content using special training dummies

I’d like to see a next-gen look for this game.
