Spider-Man Miles Morales Becomes Sony's 3rd Biggest Title After God of War

People don't realize how strong Spiderman IP is and since Sony owns the movie rights they most likely worked out a deal with Disney

Disney gets to use Spiderman in their Marvel universe while Sony gets Spiderman exclusively. And when Disney saw the quality and sales figure I think they would be more than happy to sign deal for wolverine. A while back there was a rumor Sony and Disney could merge and playstation would have all access to their IP's for gaming

Disney would have to work out a deal with Sony to include Spiderman in the MCU and have that continuity with the movies. Pretty sure the game rights would also be tossed into the mix as well hence why a Sony studio Insomniac are building and have built the game. And why Spiderman was a PS4 exclusive in the Avengers game and why he did not appear on the Xbox port. Sony can say yes Square you can include Spiderman in the Avengers game but there is a string attached only on the PS4 port of the game. And to be honest after the way they build Spiderman it lacks that Insomniac quality to him.

Guess you missed the part where Sony made Spiderman movies sucked in comparison to those part of the Marvel Universe. The agreement was around who would cover production cost, box office money, and then merchandising. Marvel is in the driver seat concerning Spiderman, and would have no need to make similar arrangements.

Interesting fact:. Horizon Zero Dawn has passed 20 million copies. This means that Spiderman and MM has sold at least 40 million combined. This also means that MM has passed 20 million on its own. So yes the Insomniac purchase is the best deal in the history of acquisitions. Sony has already recovered the cost like 10 or 20 times over. This doesn't even account for Rachet and Clank.

I don't know why people think the game and movie departments are the same. They already told us a few years back Marvel Games went to Sony PlayStation to make a game. Sony went to Insomniac. It just so happened Insomniac chose to make a Spider-Man game. Insomniac could've turned around and chose Wolverine first for all we know.

his abilities especially the camo can break the ai
The combat was clunky were you had to chase then down at times and the stealth challenges were frustrating.
Then you got the enemies/plot i thought of them as poor man avengers.

Not to mention miles kills so many people but has 0 regrets i mean a girl he knew and hanged out for years saves him at the end straight up sacrifice i did the full treasure collecting for a huh on top of the church o remorse or a simple hey thanks for saving my ass.

For me this game is a solid 6 and spiderman ps4 a 7 maybe 8.

The police/civilian ai even criminal ai is also a joke

It's an awesome game that flexes the PS5 pretty well apart from the fact that it is Spider-man. It's easy choice for any new PS5 owners.

Also it explains why Sony didn't want to do day one GamePass like releases. God of War and Horizon are coming out this year and will do like 40 million combined in sales. This is why knowing sales numbers is important because it informs us about the decisions being made in the industry. Furthermore this industry doesn't belong to the companies but rather to the consumers.

What's interesting is could insomniac turn into a studio that handles more super hero IP's or would Sony allow them to do a new New IP( how about another crack at sunset overdrive or fuse) imo insomniac are too valuable right now to be able to work on smaller projects

If insomniac studios were available today in open market after releasing Spiderman, ratchet and clank and Spiderman MM on PlayStation I think they would go for 4-5 billion quite easily (if not more, maybe Disney themselves would have bought them)

Even though others complain about exclusivity when a particular company has 70 billion to spend that could have spent a fraction of that offering Disney money in exchange for making their own Marvel game. Or, think Sony should give these games away day one in a cheap service when Sony's games are actually SELLING. Again, these games are actually SELLING.

In man that really is one way to look at it. In comparison Xbox’s games don’t really sell all that well especially like they used to. Halo, Gears and Forza raking in most of the dough. So GamePass is a less of a risk and then they don’t have to announce sales numbers. Meanwhile PlayStation games sell in the millions and Sony is like why fix what isn’t broken? Our fans actually enjoy our games and obviously value their cost.

When you consider Sony only paid 229m for Insomniac, they got an absolute bargain.

They’ve been firing on all cylinders and banging out constant hits despite being smaller than some other Sony studios.

To be honest I’d even say Insomniac > Bungie, as a developer and for a fraction of the cost.

I grabbed Miles Morales cheap and I am enjoying it loved the first Spiderman game and Insomniac are a great and talented studio. Playing Miles Morales is just building up that hype for Spiderman 2 with Venom and I am stoked because Wolverine is getting a game and he is another Marvel character I really like.

The notion put forward by many a commenter on N4G, that Miles Morales shouldn't be considered a full blooded launch title was utterly ridiculous.

I got a good 15 hours on my way to getting the platinum so I was more than happy in respect of the longevity if the game. In every other way, from production values to gameplay to story, the game was fantastic.

Great to see that it is so successful, congrats Insomniac, you are pushing Naughty Dog all the way in the race to No.1.
