I havent tried it myself but can you sync joycons to a lite? otherwise lite users will be missing out on this one.

IanTH1219d ago

I don't think so, unless things changed. I recall games like 1-2-Switch basically were sold as incompatible with Lite.

AKR1219d ago

Yes, they can be synced.

IanTH1219d ago

Interesting! I just looked this up, not having owned a Lite, and see you're right. I realize that a lot of the media available says "no" for games like 1-2 Switch, but they clearly must have meant just in handheld mode. Further digging showed me you could sync them & play those games.

Gaming media failed me? Color me shocked lol.

This makes way more sense. When I was hearing 1, 2 Switch successor rumors I couldn't believe it. That was a glorified joycon tech demo. Fun for a few minutes and then you moved on.

Something about this game seems really off... it doesn't feel like Wii Sports. It feels like it was a different sports compilation that Nintendo decided to give a signal boost by giving it the Wii Sports surface-level veneer. But ... something is off about this.

jaymacx1218d ago

Probably because they aren't using Mii characters.

MasterChief36241218d ago (Edited 1218d ago )

It's not just Mii characters missing (though to be fair, you seemingly can use your own Mii). It's the background environments, art style and interface. From what they showed, it looks like it lacks the satisfying sound effects that Wii Sports is known for. It doesn't look as fun or satisfying as a result.

Look at a video of Swordplay from Wii Sports Resort, then compare it to the example of Chambara in Nintendo Switch Sports... for me, everything about Chambara is lacking the personality that Wii Sports has. It exhibits everything I said above: the bland background environment that has no personality, lack of satisfying sound effects and lack of fun animations.

I love Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort, but this looks like it lacks all the soul of them. Heck I even loved Pilotwings Resort! We're not even on Wuhu Island or a place that looks anything like it.

A couple other things that worry me: the number of games and the controls. This is supposed to be the long-awaited return of Wii Sports and yet it has way fewer games than the previously newest edition? And for controls, I know the gyro sensors in the Joy Con are overall much better than the Wii Motion Plus, I think the controllers have their limitations still. Maybe this is just my experience, but I find if they need to be used for anything substantial, they are not as reliable as the Wiimote. And not having a sensor bar limits them in some ways in comparison.

The good news is that the playtests are only a week away, so hopefully they will bring more confidence to me. But that presentation did not make it seem like this was originally meant to be a follow-up to the "Sports" games.

No boxing or fencing kinda sucks but im sure itll sell just for the bowling.

NotoriousWhiz1219d ago

Fencing was shown in the direct.

PhillyDillyDee1219d ago

Yeah i just watched it. Didnt know it was called chanbara. Also looks like they will add golf for free so maybe we will get boxing down the road. Either way im sure it will sell well.

Cuzizkool1219d ago

I was really put off at first because the NPCs weren’t Miis, but apparently custom characters are? That helped with the nostalgia factor. Can’t wait to go back to Wii bowling, this time in HD!
