Rockstar Games Announces Grand Theft Auto VI Development

Rockstar Games writes: Many of you have been asking about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series.

With every new project, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we've previously delivered. We're pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the series is underway.

Coming out on PS6 and Xbox next

I reckon 2024/2025.🤞🏼

What's interesting is how Rockstar says "With every new project, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we've previously delivered." I'm really interested to see what this means in terms of immersion or a persistent world. On one hand you could say GTA V was 'just' an iteration of GTA IV (although of course the online grew to become the game.) But nobody does open world better than Rockstar, the streets of GTA III feel more alive than some recent games so this is definitely at the top of my wish list along with Elder Scrolls VI and Monkey Island 3 by Ron Gilbert.

It will come out on PlayStation 5 and Xbox series X I don't know if we will come out on Series S just depends on how ambitious Rockstar games are

We know for a fact it will come out this generation and then we will get a real release for next generation they can double dip and charge full price twice

Elder Scrolls VI : You first ...
GTA VI : No you first ...
Elder Scrolls VI : Please you first ...
GTA VI : Nah, you first, I insist ...

It's a pretty big non-announcement, we knew they were working on it, they don't even give us a title or logo, it could be a spin off like London for all we know. I wouldn't be surprised if they just let this out today to distract from the recent #SaveRedDeadOnline campaign that's been making them look bad lately.

-Foxtrot661d ago

Yeah I was thinking this

In other news...water is wet

"#SaveRedDeadOnline campaign that's been making them look bad lately"

That and the lingering of the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy The Definitive Edition shit storm

porkChop661d ago

It's likely also because any time they tweet or say anything the comments are just "GTA 6?"

Zhipp661d ago

We really didn't know for sure if they were working on it. It could've been like Half-life 3 for all we knew.

barom661d ago

Bet Rockstar will be acquired before GTA VI is released.

senorfartcushion661d ago

Dan Houser isn’t at Rockstar though :(

porkChop661d ago

Neither are Leslie, Lazlow and a bunch of the other devs. A lot of people have left since GTA V released.

Looking forward to play it in like 3 to 5 years.

ClayRules2012661d ago

Yeah, we’ll be playing it in 5 to 6 years.

Eidolon661d ago

I'll be playing the PS6 remaster.

jBlakeeper660d ago

Then it will be on PS6 and the next Xbox most likely. Meaning Rockstar will have only released next gen versions of GTA V this gen if that happens. Sad state of affairs indeed.

Marcello661d ago

So just another 8 years wait then :)

BigBosss661d ago (Edited 661d ago )

Yeah, its not that long though. I mean, we did wait a decade or so. What's another 8 years lol

CobraKai661d ago

I can’t believe it’s been 10 years. I really got start GTAV. It’s in my backlog from the PS3.

REDGUM661d ago

You're right, we're just over the halfway point now lol.

SullysCigar661d ago

^ @CobraKai, I'm holding off for the PSVR2 announcement before I finally dive into GTAV!

thorstein661d ago

Rockstar doesn't tend to make game announcements until they're almost ready to show something. Bethesda used to do that: talk about a new IP and then launch a month later. I imagine they are pretty far along considering GTA V was a PS3 game and RDR2 was a PS4 game.

Profchaos661d ago

But they still have a tendency to delay or announce games far to early.
I recall the GTA IV announcement was in 2006 while the game didn't actually release until 2008.
GTA v was 2011 and not released until the end of 2013.

So in two years we should have more details
