Gran Turismo 7: The Final Preview - IGN

Sony and series creator Kazunori Yamauchi have popped the hood on Gran Turismo 7 one last time before launch; here's what we've learned.

2 player split screen is cool and the weather/planets and stars WoW. The music replay and music challenges looked great too.
GT7 is back to its best as always but this one hits the nostalgia points too

Profchaos851d ago

Funny how much the industry has changed that 2 player split screen is something to be excited about.

S2Killinit851d ago

Love that they included this though

Workshyskiver851d ago

The death of couch co-op for modern gaming is a travesty. Great to see GT keeping such a basic feature in its game.

darthv72851d ago

GT5 using simulview on the 3d display is awesome. Each person has their own full screen instead of split.

SullysCigar851d ago

I'm betting the 2 player split screen announcement is a prelude to VR mode announcement. Wait for the first PSVR2 demonstration - GT7 will be something to behold.

I havent been this excited for a GT game since 5. And that one i still like to fire up on my sony 3d PSTV. Damn it suck the PS5 doesnt support 3d tv as if simulview worked, the split screen multiplayer would be even cooler. 25th anniversary edition cant get here soon enough.

That State of Play was awesome, I haven't been into racing games for a long time but may jump back in with this, GT looks back to its best.

Bathyj851d ago

Brand new G29 on its way to me as we speak

GaboonViper851d ago

I'll be spending untold amounts of time in this and Forbidden West on just photo mode alone.

Same here bought a G923 a few months ago for Project Cars 2 which I play in VR .. but using also on GT Sport and now GT7. Lookinsg very much forward to it.

Bathyj851d ago

I didn't play a racing game all last gen (not in any serious way) cos my G25 didn't work on PS4. But GT is back baby and it's worth spending half the price of a new console to get a wheel. I don't think I can go back to a controller, even the Dual Sense.

Neonridr850d ago

nice enjoy. I have a Thrustmaster T300RS myself. Was using it to play Forza 5 and it was such a treat. Can't wait to play GT7 with it.

Bathyj850d ago

Nice.
Last racing game I was seriously into was GT5 because GT6 came too late in the gen and I kind of glossed over it. It was also the first game I had a wheel for aside from a basic Madcatz I had in the PSOne days. I haven't been I to racing since because I can't go back to a controller and GT is the only racing game I truely love besides Mario kart SNES and 64.

I can't believe after today's State of Play I'm actually more psyched for GT than I am for forbidden West.

Neonridr850d ago

@Bathyj - it's funny how bad I was at driving when playing Forza 5 as it had been so long since I played Project Cars 1 / 2. Gotta get used to it again XD

GamingSinceForever851d ago

I can't lie that was quite overwhelming to me. I know they said something about first timers diving right in and to that I say good luck. Lol!

ClayRules2012851d ago

Lol. I enjoyed it. I’m certainly not a big fan of GT (I haven’t played one in so many years) and I know they’re different games, but after having played DriveClub (which I got for $20 years back) what a great and fun game that is. So, while GT is different and offers an experience unique to itself and fans, I think I might give GT7 a try. It looks really darn good!

BrainSyphoned851d ago

At the start of the series it was actully the opposite of overwhelming and I'm sure it is the same now. GT story mode you buy a cheap car and you race that car. You don't get tossed a warehouse full of supercars, you have a car. You buy quick parts for that car and keep improving it. A dozen races later and you want to start diving into a world of cars to fine tune your baby. You change a part and maybe ride height and go take it for a spin and see if the time you get is better. It isn't hard or overwhelming and you can always download or copy someone else's tweeked build for the type of ride you have and what type of course you want to drive it on. Part of why the early games stick as my favorite though was learning to actully race and fiddle with the vehicles. My suggestion is to hop in and fiddle with it yourself and you might just find something more than a repetitive rush to 1st places like everything else.

Vizigoth04851d ago

For now on we’ll just have you advertise the basic plot of Gran Turismo. Couldn’t have said it better myself!

Bathyj850d ago

I preordered it and I think they give you a million credits. That's actually a turn off for me. The point is to earn your way up and appreciate what you buy. Like a kid that mows lawns will appreciate money more than a rich kid that gets handed everything on a silver platter.

If I get all those credits I might buy one car and Chuck it in the corner and then start the grinding. That's how you play GT.

PS I hope the disc smells like burning rubber.

Cars, and more cars... Yet, they rarely add new locations where we can drive all those cars... smh.

MajorLazer6d ago

We may get a new track this update. The teaser never hints at anything more than the cars, gotta wait for the trailer to know more.

IRetrouk6d ago

There's over 110 layouts in the game, you raced em all? I know I haven't and I have 900 hours playtime

Gardenia5d ago

With the daily races they only use 4 tracks it feels like.

IRetrouk4d ago

That's true, cant lie lol, but I assume you have buddy's to play online with, if not, I got a group you can join, we race every weekend, tracks are random, we even throw weather in sometimes lol

CobraKai5d ago

Wow. That’s one entitled ass comment.

Gabrielmpf5d ago

I paid €70 for way less content than the previous Gran Turismo. Yeah, I'm entitled. Bunch of PS cult boys.

CobraKai5d ago

Wah wah wah. I can’t get more free stuff than what they’re giving me. Wah wah wah

Father__Merrin6d ago

Truly a purchase once and last all gen type of game

purple1016d ago

yes it is!, however I do hope they have a GT8 ready soon, because 7 its a cross gen, so there's more to be extracted for sure,

Ok, sure. I’ll take more. There’s a lot of tracks already

Sgt_Slaughter6d ago

When you boil down the layouts/configurations, it's 38 tracks. Of those, only 19 are real-life tracks. That's a pretty low amount when there's hundreds of thousands of circuits that are available to add.

Babadook76d ago (Edited 6d ago )

That’s not low though. I don’t have a big preference for real world either, as GT7 has some very good original tracks too.
