PS5 vs Xbox Series X|S Sales Comparison - December 2021

December 2021 is the 14th month the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 5 when compared to the aligned launch of the Xbox Series X|S by 431,217 units. In the last 12 months, the PlayStation 5 has outsold the Xbox Series X|S by 4.68 million units. The PlayStation 5 is currently ahead by 6.03 million units.

Xbox Gamepass, xbox lots of publishers buyouts and still the margin grew, and this will continue even with that Activision buyout, people seems to forget quality over quantity term, also Playstation is a well known brand around the world , Xbox isn't. Sorry.

We all know the gap is going to be there. Did you know the gap is actually narrower between PS5 and Series than it was for PS4 and XBO for the same time?

Which is to say XB is doing much better this go round than last. 1.55m better to be more accurate. PS is doing about the same. Well maybe 329k units less but still good.

And if it turns out there are more multi platform owners this gen than last... is that such a bad thing? I swear some get really bent out of shape at the thought XB might actually be worth owning in addition to PS.

People seem to forget that the playstation brand is really strong.
Even with the ps3 being ridiculously pricey, released a year later and still manager to beat the best of Xbox generation.
Take a look now, even with GP, a cheaper console, new acqusitions...the PS5 is still beating it's competition.

Some people just prefer the playstation i guess. It'll probably going to take MS to buy Take2, Square, Ubisoft, EA to dwarf the PS.

All the effort of MS is directed to the gamepass and the gamepass is very above the PSN. The future belongs to the gamepass and the acquisitions of MS will start to give results in the last quarter of this year.

Dreams, personal opinions, feelings, wishful and delusional thinking won't do it.
Gamepass is 5 years old, and it hasn't turned any tables. They're still 3rd in market share, 3rd in console sales, 3rd in software sales and dead last in popularity around the planet.
But hey, there's always hope for the next gen...

Since PS is still ahead or widening the gap as you say, then there should be no case against MS with monopoly for buying up publishers. Sony still have that quality so why worries about it? Not like anyone on here play COD anyways right?

PS5 is doing much better then XB Series. And when you compare it to last gen when PS4 was outselling XBO 3:1 at points in the generation, PS5 outselling XB Series about 1.7:1 is not all that great of news. That's saying, "Although we are losing total market share we are killing it". No company wants to lose market share.

I'm curious if the gap will narrow once Activision/Blizzard and Bethesda (exclusive) games start coming out on Xbox (gamepass). Probably not I assume, but you never know.

I may get slated for saying this, but does anyone care about sales figures aside from Fanboys. Both systems are great, i have both and i have my preferences for both. Seriously enjoy both systems and the games that make you tick. And fundamentally appreciate the competition, as if there isn’t , it give them free reign to do whatever they plz. Complacency is poison, seen it on both sides. Peace

I don't know if I "care", but the numbers add context to the big picture and it's interesting to see how the numbers reflect recent activity.

Like taking a note of the sales gap and then seeing whether they grow or shrink after major milestones or releases.
