A more interesting comparison would be Series S vs Series X but we don't have access to those numbers.

A more interesting comparison would be PS5 digital vs PS5 but we don't have access to those numbers.

Well according to the data below, PS fans around the world have bought more boxed games than digital so it's safe to assume that more ps5's with the disc version have been sold than the digital one. So the MORE EXPENSIVE ($499) console is selling more than the cheaper one. Keeping in mind both editions are nowhere to be found while the cheapest xbox edition is ready available online.

^^an article from nearly a year ago... thats your proof?

Good luck with that.

anast121d ago

PS5 and PS5 digital are the same machine. One has a disk and the other doesn't. The S and the SX are not the same machine. So, it would be interesting to see the numbers between two different machines.

Magog120d ago

Why would that be interesting? They have the exact same specs.

As an owner of a Dodge Ram 1500 SLT, I dont need to know how many ST or Laramies are sold. It makes no difference to me. Now maybe it does to Daimler Chrysler corp but it doesnt to me. And just like with the Series S vs X it makes no difference to me.

I already have one and I know it plays the same games. Just like my truck drives the same roads and uses the same gas as those other models. If there were special gas that the other models can use that mine doesnt, or roads they can drive that mine cant. Maybe Id care, but I like my truck as I like my Series S.

There are no games that an X plays that an S cant, so why does it matter? Only those who are without will question. And its not like the answer will make any difference in their already decided minds.

The Series S is a great system, especially at the price point.

Using your own analogy for comparison. The base Ram 1500, doesn't have the bells and whistles as a fully loaded 1500. Same goes for Series S VS X. More ram, faster processor and larger storage, with a DD.

anast121d ago

The analogy is the first thing people look at. Cars and consoles are not even remotely approximate, but I am sure you know that...

darthv72121d ago

@anast, cars and consoles compare just fine. SS is the base model, SX is the deluxe model.

I own an XBSS as well but I have to say when it comes down to playing AAA exclusives & multi-plats with crisp & clear visuals the Series X is the winner in that dept. So far the only AAA game I have been playing on the XBSS is Halo Infinite & it's not a bad game but playing it on my 65 Samsung Qled is a bit of a disappointment knowing the resolution is only 1080p & no higher which looks blurry in some instances. Playing HI & most other games on the series X the games look pristine crisp & clear in 4k. I really shouldn't complain due to the fact I won the console at my job's Xmas party so I didn't pay a dime for it including I don't play it as much as I play my PS5 but when I do the 1080p only output resolution on current AAA games (Halo Infinite) is a disappointment to me.

MrNinosan121d ago

Doesn't Xbox One also play the same games as Series X as of right now?

Thank you for this comment. I was racing to the page to say the same thing.

Orchard121d ago

Not sure I’d say that’s more interesting.

I’m way more interested in seeing how XSX and PS5 are doing compared to XB1 and PS4 than I am about how much of each SKU from the current gen was sold.

You can’t even use that data to compare to last gen because last gen both were single SKU at launch.

PS5 will still sell more consoles than Xbox. Xbox are focused on cloud and want GamePass everywhere. Xbox sales will never beat PS5 sales and that’s even now when GamePass is huge. Xbox are digital now.

Aloymetal121d ago

''Xbox sales will never beat PS5 sales''
A true statement.

Vladtheinhaler121d ago

I’m sincerely okay with that. If it were reversed I’m sure you would be okay with it, right?

porkChop120d ago

Whether Xbox or PS or Nintendo sell more doesn't matter though. What matters is that we keep getting great games to play. I don't understand why so many people care which plastic box sells more.

SpineSaw120d ago (Edited 120d ago )

@porkChop
I agree with that but as one who owns a Xbox One S, Xbox Series S, PS4, PS5 a Nintendo Switch and a gaming PC I have not seen any "great games" in a some time. Last great game imo for me.... Nioh 2 and it released 2yrs ago. Demon Souls remastered is great but I played that on PS3 yrs ago though I enjoyed the hundreds of hours I've put into it on PS5. Returnal Imo is really good but I wouldn't call it great. I think Elden Ring will be great when it releases imo.

darthv72121d ago (Edited 121d ago )

PS4 is ahead of PS5 by 329k according to another article and this says Series is ahead of XBO by 1.55m. Which means the gap between PS5 and series is narrower than the gap between PS4 and XBO.

Im not saying XB will beat PS... only thats it seems more likely there will be more dual console owners this time vs last. Especially if people get the cheaper S to compliment their PS5 disc (or digital) like I have.
