Overwatch 2 producer claims CEO contributed to delays with "months" of lost dev time

Tracy tweets: "Bobby, tell everyone about the random projects for OW1 you all would shove on us, the team would do OT for only them to get cancelled and for months of OW2 dev to have been lost. Or how almost entire teams are turning over and citing you as the reason. Don't be shy."

Ballsy, I honestly don't think Kotick will be around much longer. With a face like his, who's really surprised?

porkChop1239d ago

He won't be. He and Phil have to play nice and act like friends until the deal closes. Then Kotick "retires" with his rumored $300+ million paycheck. There's no way Kotick stays. He goes against everything Phil stands for in terms of dev empowerment and workplace culture. Xbox used to be a shitty place to work too until Phil took over and turned things around.

Bobby is worth over 800 million dollars I think he will get way more than 300 million. Either way hopefully the talent at activist can focus on available resources and development instead of worrying/focusing on distractions

I think that was one of the real reasons for the sale. Kotick going out big. Why just step down when you can bow out while lining your pockets with billions? He’s smart, but he’s an awful human being.

This gave has been really popular. Seriously needs a sequel.

Has been, as in past tense. I don't ever see an Overwatch release ever being a "small" release by any means, but they definitely missed the boat on capitalising on the hype years ago.

I and loads of my mates used to live and breathe Overwatch, but it's been so suffocated of content and this sequel is so late that it's not going to have anywhere near the impact it would have had even 2 or 3 years ago.

I think you're underestimating how popular and fun this game was when it first released. It also completely took over the E-Sports scene, was big on streaming. It's the best hero shooter we've had since Team Fortress, arguably the best one ever created. The hero shooter genre as a whole is suffocated and any quality release in it will be very coveted by players on all platforms, and professional content creators and E-Sports athletes, which will also influence regular people.

I actually think it's a breath of fresh air we're going to have to wait like 7-8 years between releases. Compared to the constant bombardment we've gotten from franchises releasing every year or two and sometimes being under cooked. Look at some franchises that have waits of 6-10 years + between sequels and it didn't hurt them(Blizzard being involved in some). Doom III to Doom (10+ years), Diablo II to Diablo III (10+), Starcraft to Starcraft II (10+), Resident Evil III to IV (6), Wasteland II to Wasteland III (6).

The list goes on and on. Red Dead, The Last of Us, Fallout, Elder Scrolls, GTA, people would sacrifice their first born for Half Life 3. When people are loyal to a franchise, they will come back to the sequel even after a long time. If anything they will be more excited because they've waited for so long.
