PSVR 2 Won’t Outsell Quest 2, And It Doesn’t Need To

Yes, that wire and console dependency will stop PSVR 2 from outselling Quest 2. And, you know what? That doesn't matter.

Is 1 single VR wire really that big of a deal? At least you won't have that battery around your head.

It's not just about a cable. You can take the Quest 2 anywhere and play VR games installed on the headset itself, as well as being able to connect it to a PC to play PC VR games. It's a really great headset.

No a cable isn't a big deal this is high-end VR after all. This will require dedicated tethered processing power. This is similar to the Vive or the index and likewise will need outside horsepower.

"This will require dedicated tethered processing power. This is similar to the Vive or the index and likewise will need outside horsepower."

Right. And that's exactly what you get when you plug a Quest 2 into your PC. Your PC powers the games. It's no different from using a Vive or Index. I think the point being made is that with the Quest 2 you have the freedom to take it anywhere for portable VR, but you can still get the same tethered experience as other high end headsets.

My brother actually found a way to connect his Quest 2 to his PC wirelessly and the range is pretty great. He can be upstairs in the living room playing his PC VR games while his PC sits in the basement on the other side of the house. He's been playing through Half-Life: Alyx like that.

Regardless, whether the portability/freedom matters is up to the individual. Some people won't care for it and that's ok.

Wasting your time trying to explain PorkChop, looks like we got some ignorant fanboys here kek.

It might. Psvr has sold 5milllion .

Quest 2 is on 10million but it's much cheaper. + Sony has left psvr alone for a while now probably to work on new one.

If this new one is pc compatible too. I think it could sell 10-15 million easy.

I really hope it's PC compatible. Sick of having two VR headsets lol

Sony is bringing their biggest IPs to PSVR2 and is launching it much closer to the beginning on the generation than they did with PSVR1. It is also cutting edge tech whereas PSVR1 reused old tech to keep the price down. I expect PSVR2 to blow the original out of the water in terms of sales.

CrimsonWing691255d ago

But we need to see the price to gauge this. If it’s incredibly expensive it will create a steep barrier of entry, which could ultimately kill support for the unit in the long term… or they design a cheaper version.

MadLad1255d ago

Unlikely.

You're very sure of yourself, considering pricing hasn't been addressed. The difference in the actual number of consoles in hand will be vastly different. There are very competitive headsets on the market as is. And you're assuming a high level of attachment rate to the console itself, being you don't want it to be on PC.

Aka, you're almost definitely wrong. If you're right, it wasn't coming from a logical point of view. Just hope.

A lot of gaming media is about pitting one group against another.

Heck media in general is about pitting one group against another. Stop giving it oxygen.

SullysCigar1256d ago

Agreed. VR is a relatively new medium and a rising tide raises all ships. There's room for both - they're pretty different propositions.

TheLordOfStuff1255d ago

I dont see how you got down votes for this, any group of vr headsets selling well helps ALL vr headsets, the more vr sets in the wild makes it a more attractive proposition for any devs to develop for.
