Right. And that's exactly what you get when you plug a Quest 2 into your PC. Your PC powers the games. It's no different from using a Vive or Index. I think the point being made is that with the Quest 2 you have the freedom to take it anywhere for portable VR, but you can still get the same tethered experience as other high end headsets.

My brother actually found a way to connect his Quest 2 to his PC wirelessly and the range is pretty great. He can be upstairs in the living room playing his PC VR games while his PC sits in the basement on the other side of the house. He's been playing through Half-Life: Alyx like that.

Regardless, whether the portability/freedom matters is up to the individual. Some people won't care for it and that's ok.

Sony is bringing their biggest IPs to PSVR2 and is launching it much closer to the beginning on the generation than they did with PSVR1. It is also cutting edge tech whereas PSVR1 reused old tech to keep the price down. I expect PSVR2 to blow the original out of the water in terms of sales.

There are very competitive headsets on the market as is. And you're assuming a high level of attachment rate to the console itself, being you don't want it to be on PC.

The Quest 2 offers VR for $300 which is a highly accessible investment for potential buyers.

PSVR2 will be a more premium product using the PS5 power. It also has a slight advantage in resolution and had OLED rather that LCD. HDR, Haptic feedback, and eye tracking are also not in Quest 2. I doubt it will outsell the Quest 2 but It is certainly competitive for a premium VR headset.

The article writer is trying to minimize Sony and put them in a box before even releasing. None of us know what's going to happen. Just recently on the same site, an article was created to compare specs and make them seem equal without comparing what those specs will be displaying and the power behind them or Sony's first party pedigree making games for 25 years. There's no comparison unless you buy an expensive PC for Quest which kills the, "it's cheaper" narrative." I'd rather play future games than games made 20 years ago. When Facebook killed Rift, they killed high end releases for PC. Now, big games are held at the mercy of a "price dumping" mobile headset and processor.

They mention a future Facebook headset we know nothing about including price to say, "Don't abandon Facebook." They have another, more powerful one coming." They mention Apple as the only competitor without the possibility of Google jumping back in. Tik Tok could enter the race with their large following and become a success after their purchase of a headset recently. Samsung could join the fray. Some of these companies could forge alliances to control the meta verse together. Article writer is basically making sure you don't forget about Facebook in the face of better quality. Years was spent by these sites and YouTube influencers in making Quest look great compared to a 5 year old headset. Now, it's a single "WIRE" that is going to determine Sony's success. We know that wire will display better graphics, better sound and better haptics. It's a dig to say, "Quest is wireless." It's better."

Don't be fooled. It's an attempted effort to short change Sony while tossing them small compliments.

If FaceMetaBook can somehow with Carmack and anyone elses' help get cloud-based VR gaming down to acceptable levels on all fronts (latency and visuals), then Quest [insert iteration] will appeal to a lot more people. The mobile graphics are just not good enough compared to tethered systems as of now. Quest Air Link or using a cable requires the beefy PC to run it, increasing the cost but it is currently the market leader I think.

cloud based vr is a bad idea. In Vr latency is a much bigger deal than in any other gaming. the image has to be ready to move as you turn your head, and you can't restrict the turning speed as you can in other gaming as any lag will cause people to get disoriented and dizzy.

Might be right now, but if you look back at dial-up internet in the early 2000s and compare to the high speeds we're getting now you could say the same thing. Totally impossible to consider cloud streaming games back then. There might be other trickery they could employ such as predictive movements or data compression where the latency is reduced to levels where it's on par with things like Air Link now.

If PSVR2 is compatible with PC also, then it will. People will be more likely to double/triple/quadruple dip if they have the added value. Without support I agree it won’t outsell the Quest. In fact I would consider that it may sell less than the original PSVR. The problem currently is that we have come out of VRs infancy so many already have many iterations of headsets. Are people going to pay out for yet another expensive headset?

I really want to get rid of my OG PSVR but if the new one is PlayStation exclusive and not back compatible is it worth me buying it? I’m genuinely not entirely sure.

The Quest 2 hub starts you off in your own apartment. Some of most popular games and app on the Quest 2 are VR chat, Rec Room (play mini games and player created games online with friends), and Bigscreen(watch movies with people in a theater). The PS Home back in the day was pretty much all of that combined, except the ability to create games. Sony should really consider bringing PS Home back.

VR isn't at the stage yet where it needs to be competitive. Any good sales of a headset means more games and in its current state were more likely to see multi play dev of VR titles over exclusive games. There will always be exclusives but they are not like console exclusives yet

Given that the PSVR 2 is likely to cost $399 I don't think its going to be a big seller at all. I'm not saying it will fail as it will likely do solid numbers but if the price is that high I just don't see more then 15% of the current PS5 install base buying it.

It’s not going to compete directly with Quest 2 . It’s a gaming headset first than an all around work ,Facebook , games and whatever else headset. I’m sure PSVR2 will have some of those options but it’s for gaming first .
I don’t mind the single wire , it’s a much better setup than before with PSVR2 and it really wasn’t an issue to me either besides setting it up but not wearing it . Ill take it compared to the downsides of wireless (cost ,battery life and lesser specs ) when you get an OLED panel vs LCD on Quest 2 , better resolution 2000x2040 vs 1832x1920 , FoV is better 110 degrees vs 89 on Quest 2 . If they made the same specs wirelessly the cost would be a lot more than what it’s going to be , higher specs need bigger batteries and would drain it faster and you have to deal with heat over time . I am not worried about the single wire really and kind of prefer it to having a lithium battery strapped to my head . Until a better battery solution comes out there will be wired headsets for the foreseeable future because of the issues they present .
I’m not going to be going all over my house with VR headset on anyway, I’ll be in my gaming room playing games . The headset is nice and now they have to deliver the games because that’s what is going to make it sell on PS5 vs what Oculus is doing with a everything headset ut they have the studios to do it so I hope it exceeds expectations . That will mean we got some awesome games . Im hoping for some good JRPGs/RPGs

I would totally agree with the author if it was not for these variables that do cLoud the PSVR 2

1) PSVR (2) isn't the cheapest and easiest solution anymore due to Quest 2. Meaning that 1st time Vr users that wanted to test Vr will probably go for the cheap easy Quest instead of PSVR.

2) PPL has proven time and time again that they don't mind sacrificing power for ease and convenience Just checking how Nintendo has been topping the sales charts with the Switch proves that.

3) The famous wire... Well, I agree it's not an issue and that is why we all love to play with our Ps5 controller wired to the console right? Just a reminder that some of the ppl defending the PSVR2 wire are the exact ppl blasting Xbox about how it's archaic to still have double AA batteries in their controller. (I wonder what they would say if Xbox was wired only).

4) The same power gap between Flatscreen vs VR counterparts will still be the same. The author speaks about how PSVR had to cut down to port flat-screen game (Hitman) but the simple fact is that the gap will still be the same due to the PSVR2 being the same type of add-on. Why would ppl suddenly be interested in a watered-down Ps5 Vr game if they weren't interested in a watered-down Ps4 game?

5) Sony's lack of commitment toward developing real AAA games for PSVR, We can talk about how Quest 2 is catering to mobile gaming but how many AAA games did Sony create for the PSVR? And why would suddenly Sony care to create real defining AAA games if the system move even fewer units compared to the original PSVR?

I was hoping that they would release standalone controllers for the old psvr to maintain compatibility and userbase. The current headset tracks great, looks ok just needs those controllers updated. Oh, and an adapter to skip the silly processor box on ps5.

If the cord is long enough, which I'm assuming it will be, all you need is the tug point to be at your ankle. Get an ankle strap that locks the cord in right there and you pretty much have a wireless headset. I did it with my PSVR and it worked phenomenally. Granted, it wasn't a full 360-degree headset, but there were multiple times during Iron Man where I would do full turns and never noticed there was a cord. The biggest nuisance from the wire was the tug on your head. Get rid of that and you're good to go!

Of course it will outsell ALL other VR devices by a shit tonne. Over 14 million PS5’s sold already, no other equipment required, huge player base, free vr content already available. By December 2022, it’ll be over 20 million PS5 units sold, all quest devices are limited by a mobile chip, ps5 is nextgen with foveated rendering, psVR2 will sell by the bucket load.

Quest has allowed me to bring people into the gaming space that wouldn’t have otherwise. I bought one for my uncle for Christmas and he’s hooked on the puzzle games. It is an excellent casual experience. And that’s what it’s for to be honest. It’s for the billion Facebook users, not the game hobbyist.

If I need a wire to play “real” games then so be it. I liked my time with quest, I bought one for my brother for Christmas and tried it lol. The game selection looked kinda “mobile-ish” though. Re4 is the only system seller I saw. It looked much better than the psvr but it still didn’t compare to my time resident evil 7 and blood and truth. I will probably buy a psvr2 for the “full game” experience.

I got the Quest 2 as a late Christmas gift for my 11 and 14-year-old. Overall I'm very unimpressed with it. What are the fun games? I played Beat Saber (Okay for what it is), daughters played Job Simulator until they beat it. Haven't played it since. I Bought Arizona Sunshine (zombie game) I played it for about 2hrs I haven't suited back up to play it since. For about a week the Quest 2 has sat around collecting dust. What are the fun games to give a try? If this is truly what VR is about I will wait until a breakthrough happens, because it's just not all that fun right now.
