Eidolon841d ago

I'm way late in the VR game, but this will probably be my first VR set. :)

PapaBop841d ago

You're in for a treat, VR gaming won't be replacing traditional gaming but it definitely feels like a next generation experience.

Jin_Sakai841d ago

Agreed. While it won’t replace traditional gaming PSVR was an amazing experience. Astro Bot Rescue Mission was incredible and RE7: Village was a much more immersive and scary experience than playing on a TV. Can’t wait for PSVR2!

Eidolon841d ago

I've tried the first Oculus back in college, I was sold on it for the moment, but was not a PC gamer or even gaming much at the time. I've tried maybe 2 other sets and it was an even better experience. I don't really know why I waited so long to pull the trigger, but I did figure we were at the end of the a generation and a vastly improved set would be made for it. We're here now with PSVR2 close is why I can say I'm glad I waited, but so many games I missed that will probably seem outdated, lol.

abstractel841d ago (Edited 841d ago )

Agreed. Can't wait to see the controllers and the haptic built into the headset sound really interesting and I can imagine it adding to the sense of immersion. Plus of course Tempest will bring great 3D Audio by good developers.

I think this will be the first consumer headset that will have an HDR display. This will make a difference, bringing a little bit closer to true life lighting into the headset will go a long way. Wonder what the nits it goes up to. It mentions foveated, that it tracks your eyes, but it doesn't mention if it will use this to speed up rendering. For years VR manufacturers have talked about how foveated rendering will optimize rendering by rendering less pixels where you are not looking.

Good VR games are an incredible experience and I'm really glad a mainstream console maker is supporting it. That's the only way I personally think it will continue to grow.

My only disappointment is that it's still wired. As soon as Quest 2, *hrhmm cough* "Meta", was able to run in wireless mode I will find it hard to go back to wired. Second disappointment is 110 degree FOV. I was hoping at this point we'd be getting at least 130 or 140. I always feel like I'm looking through binoculars. Last disappointment was the Horizon demo, it looks fine but I imagine the PS5 can do better. I guess time will tell.

bouzebbal841d ago (Edited 841d ago )

The star next to USB TYPE C, anyone knows what's hidden behind that? I want to know if you need the cake constantly plugged in or can I play wireless??

@Sakai:
Moss
Astro
Blood and truth
Creed

Are some of the very best

Bathyj841d ago

Especially at the quality this is going to have.
The resolution, the framerates, the sound, haptics, feedback in the headset so you can feel a bullet whizz by your head.
This will be VR done right I think. That's not even talking about the studios that will support it just from Sonys side.

I was late as well. Got psvr in 2020. I like it but my eyes fog up the lenses, so I dont use it as much as my son. He really likes the spider man vr demo.

I like the specs. Eye tracking and no external camera required. 1 cable connection... cant wait.

Babadook7841d ago (Edited 841d ago )

Here are two tips.

1 The fog will go away after the temperature of the lenses equalize with your face. Takes about 5 min.
2 A fan blowing at you lightly is enough to eliminate the problem entirely.

kickerz841d ago (Edited 841d ago )

You can buy anti fog wipes which are typically used for reading glasses. Get them from a chemist. Works really well. Can add a fan if need be

ChasterMies841d ago

Same. PSVR looked good but I wasn’t going to buy a PS4 Pro to get the best of it. What really excites me is my growing collection of PSVR titles from PS+ and Play at Home. What doesn’t excite me is motion sickness. Not sure how that will go.

fr0sty841d ago (Edited 841d ago )

Most motion sickness is caused by insufficient frame rate, which PS5/PSVR2 should improve leaps and bounds over what PS4 (even pro) could do, and those 2 already did great. Some people who are sensitive to motion sickness will still need some adjustment period to get used to it, i suggest trying games that don't move as fast (like don't go jumping into Wipeout VR your first time in, for instance.)

victorMaje841d ago

That first moment when you find yourself in the world of the game you just launched, like inside it, nothing can describe it. It’s something new, unforgettable.

kayoss840d ago

Make sure you take it slow. If you're like me (hopefully not). You can easily get motion sickness. I played for about 1 hour, got really bad motion sickness that i had to lie down for 2 hours to recover. But eventually i got used to it and it is a blast to play.

Eidolon840d ago

For sure. Actually haven't played for more than 30mins sessions and they weren't bad experiences, there was an adjustment period but was quick. I don't have a history of motion sickness, but I'll have to see with extended sessions on VR.

TheRealHeisenberg840d ago

I was late to the party on the original PSVR. My skepticism turned into downright trolling anything PSVR related. That was until my youngest asked for one and I have been a fan of PSVR ever since. Consider me sold. I can't wait to get PSVR2! My only miniscule criticism/disappointment is that this is not completely wireless but I am certain that will be forgotten once I have one...and another PS5.

Oh, wow, can't wait. My money is ready, but I wish not to pricey

BenRC01841d ago

Ought 1, sold it, bought another, sold that. Re7 and gts blew my mind but it mostly sat gathering dust unless relatives visited. Won't be buying psvr2 but will have a go on a mates

NotoriousWhiz840d ago

Hopefully, they're also easier to get ahold of than PS5s. But probably won't be. =(

yuukiliu841d ago

this came out of left field wth? and a new horizon game exclusive for it? show me a video Sony! and it appears to be totally wireless! probably not dropping til holiday next year is my guess.

RPGer841d ago

Totally wireless 4K-VR is unbelievable thing. Only if it cost double the price of PS5.

roadkillers841d ago

Not sure the cost, but with all the supply shit… I’m sure you’ll need to pay a hefty penny through scalpers

jznrpg841d ago (Edited 841d ago )

It says one cable . Not sure where that cable comes from and goes to but most likely the headset to Ps5 and that’s fine with me

CaptainHenry916841d ago (Edited 841d ago )

And it also says Bluetooth 5.1 connection? Are they talking about the controller?

Babadook7841d ago

"Are they talking about the controller?"

Yup

GhostofHorizon841d ago

"PS VR2 will also have a simple setup process — with a single cable connected directly to PS5, you can immediately jump into the VR experience."

It's not going to be wireless.

SullysCigar841d ago

Honestly, I'll take PS5 powering this state of the art headset over some PS3 level processor and having to wear a heavy battery.

Wireless is great fir Beat Saber or Synth Riders, but sucks for graphics and lengthy, meaty games.

mudakoshaka841d ago

@SullysCigar

Thank you! Some people seem to really think that a wireless Quest 2 can give graphics that are comparable to a device connected to a PC with a dedicated GPU.

I need a proper VR like the Reverb G2 or Index, my sister who loves simple VR games would get her moneys worth from a Quest 2. I feel there should be a market for both, but it seems developers are focusing on cheaper and simpler games for the Quest 2 instead of proper games for PCVR. I hope the PS VR2 will make developers release games that are multiplatform.

theindiearmy840d ago

@SullysCigar and @mudakoshaka Not sure why you are implying that just because it's wireless that it still wouldn't be powered by the console. No one is asking for it to be a standalone wireless device, we just want it to be a wireless connection to the console. Meaning the console is still powering everything and then sending the image to the headset wirelessly.

poppatron841d ago

It says ot connects with a single usb c

BenRC01841d ago

That horizon looked like a passive experience. Any gameplay details? Only saw a vid clip

FinalFantasyFanatic840d ago

I think it's going to be exactly what you think it's going to be, doesn't exactly thrill me, but hopefully they have more VR games in the pipeline.

Braindeadninja840d ago

I don't know why people are getting idea it's wireless? It's single wire.

theindiearmy840d ago

Because if you're going to be this late in catching up to other VR headsets, it would have been nice to have something that puts Sony in front of sorts. Easy out-of-the-box wireless connection hasn't really been a thing with VR headsets yet. The Quest is probably the closest, but I think you still have to turn on the feature in the beta settings hidden within the menus of the headset.

FinalFantasyFanatic840d ago

Not really out of left field, it's pretty obvious they were going to do this eventually, I wasn't really impressed with PS VR before, but this one is quite a bit beefier than it's PS4 incarnation.

Anomander840d ago

Not Wirelessly, It's going to use the USB Type-C to communicate with the PS5. Makes me wonder if it will require a specific USB-C port on the PS5 that is directly tied to the GPU? I'll be curious about the price of this unit. It may even give my Valve Index a run for its money with that resolution. Though I have a 3090 powering my Index, and I love the Index controllers.

I wonder what the odds of half life coming to PS would be. That would seal the deal for me.

jznrpg841d ago

It makes sense . There were rumors it would launch with PSVR2 but haven’t heard anything in a while

poppatron841d ago

Yeah, me too. After having only ever playing on my psvr at home, the day I played half life on a pc at this bar I went, o was shocked. It was amazing!

I’ll be honest, I think there’s a chance this might trump that, the specs are pretty nuts

KeyAppearance841d ago

I hope they bring it to PSVR, been playing it on the PC and its absolutely a killer VR App, hope the PS gamers get to play it soon!

Garethvk34d ago

I can finally play Half Life Alyx.

mariopasta34d ago

I can finally watch pron, I mean watch pronouns be pronounced in PC VR games that were previously not available on Playstation.

crazyCoconuts34d ago

be careful not to sprain your... tongue pronouncing those pronouns

Profchaos34d ago

I'm excited for that to plus I can try fallout 4 VR always wanted to play that

crazyCoconuts34d ago

I was lucky and held off on 4 until I played it in VR. It really is pretty awesome - you'll love it.

DaReapa34d ago

The icing on the cake would be if Sony / Valve allow for a Steam Link app much like it is for the Quest 3. Likely wishful thinking, though.
