A switch pro would be appreciated but I know there's not really an incentive for Nintendo to make one just yet

2021 was a pretty good year for Nintendo. Not only did it introduce a new OLED model for the Nintendo Switch, but its original model continued to dominate in sales. Not to mention that the company delivered with some big games, including the return of traditional Metroid with Metroid Dread.

Actually get in a position to have some tech that's considered current generation. For the love of all that is good, make something that involves more than Mario, Zelda, and Pokémon.

There hasn't really been any real innovation, console wise, from them since the GC. Wii(Powerglove), WiiU(3DS), and Switch(Vita), are all fine but none push the envelope. Imagine having a system that stands toe to toe against the PS5 and XSX.

Shiken839d ago

I have never seen a comment reach so far as this one.

Neonridr839d ago

why do we need another identical box to the PS5 and XSX? Besides, there's no way in hell you can get a handheld device that could compete with a PS5 in terms of specs. Just doesn't exist.

SurgicalMenace839d ago

I mean, keep telling yourself you're satisfied with celebrating last gen games being released on the Switch.

Neonridr839d ago

@SurgicalMenace - I do agree it would be nice to have more power, don't get me wrong. If we could get a Switch 2 that is in the ballpark of what the Steam Deck is packing that would be a huge jump. But unless Nintendo abandons its whole strategy with the Switch you would never see a handheld with that much power. Just couldn't be done.

SurgicalMenace836d ago

There are many that like to see the advancement of the tech industry. Nintendo fans turn a blind eye to being resold old tech and games. Nintendo is amongst the most self-centered of the power 3 followed closely by MS but they at least make their narcissism more appealing. Abandon the strategy and innovate, Nintendo is so annoying but everyone is bedazzled by their narcotic of nostalgia. Hey, to each their own. Less money to them and more to those truly innovating.

Neonridr835d ago

@SurgicalMenace - you can argue that what Nintendo did with the Wii U and then the Switch was trying to move the industry forward. Releasing another box with the same amount of power would not be innovating in any way. Sure, as I said, I would love for the tech to be a little more cutting edge and would be willing to pay a little more for a premium experience, but that being said I love my Switch and the flexibility it offers me. I also enjoy my PS5 and the next generation of games it can bring me too.

No one is asking for another handheld.

Reach? How about you study the tech and the patients behind their inception before commenting. Even the DS was based off of the Game & Watch and the 3DS from the Virtual Boy. Nintendo is notorious for repackaging old tech, the Switch library is definitely proof of that. Remaining willfully ignorant isnt a good look, sir. Own all the tech if you're needing a more technical breakdown.

pietro1212836d ago

Talk about a swing a miss. Why do we need three 4k systems but really don't offer any different experience (asides from the PS5 dual sense controller- which not ever dev will use. Talk about boring. If Nintendo released a 4k console the conversation will ne, "Nintendo can't think of anything original". "Nobody asking for another handheld" Sales beg to differ (most Switch owners play their console in handheld mode). I own all the tech and you still don't see me talking out my ass.

SurgicalMenace836d ago (Edited 836d ago )

Swing and miss, huh? Most of the world's population is of the working class too. This may be a surprise but most are governed by what they're told instead of what critical thought allows them to discover on their own. Hence commercials even being a thing.

The masses and their current or past pursuits are even more evidence of their susceptibility to public herding. The "well everyone else is doing it" argument never works in the long run....does anyone else remember the Crack Era of the 80s and 90s? How'd that work out for the industry?

There is also a reason why Sony continues to stand out, not because of their stellar graphics, system power, free games, nor nostalgic remakes but them pushing the envelope. Dual Sense, Tempest Sound, Self governing chipset, and VR are added to compliment the previously mentioned list of benefits. Nintendo and MS will continue to play second and third fiddle if they continue to fail in innovation. There's a difference between competition and just being present.

Sells aim to show where the minds of humanity are whether that is a state of lack or not. How many people aim to push themselves to work to their highest self? So to buy more old tech means the mind is not wanting to evolve beyond basic enginuity. "Don't want to have to think too much to get my fix" types outpace those wanting something more. Much like the fast food industry(Nintendo) far exceeds the engineering industry(Sony).

You're right, sales do support this observation as well.

Sony had is right, if you want it, you can work more....been the case in EVERY successful industry I've had the pleasure of occupying.

Please excuse me if I like when tech competes with comparable footing....tends to balance the playing field. I'm from a different generation and compete at higher levels. Job requirements between a 50k and a 350k salary are different. I stand corrected....🤷🏾 ;‍♂️

I just want better online for the prices Nintendo charges to play the Switch online you would expect message a friend, party chat with a friend, drop the stupid code to add a friend. Update the NES and SNES libraries more often then once in a very very blue moon, bring back the virtual console the Wii had. Those are my only must haves for the Switch.

Nintendo Is A Bad Company, But We Can't Help Loving Them Anyway

TG: “Most of us also grew up with Nintendo, likely forming a nostalgic connection with games that have long been crowned as our personal favourites. The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker was an experience that shaped my view on open world fantasy, and Super Mario 64 changed my life like it did for millions of others. These titles have earned their place in history, and remain loved to this day for so many worthwhile reasons. We replay them and beg for remasters all while delving into their worlds time and time again because they mean that much to us. It’s a shame then that the company behind them often kicks its own sweet darlings to the curb.”

I never got the love for Nintendo games personally. The annoying vocalizations and ugly character designs do nothing for me.

Another very weird article.

Nintendo is a great company by almost all possible normal measures. The biggest one being: their own staff is happy, and they seem to be very happy, well compensated and retain rate is solid. They are also financially very stable, profitable, and cash rich, so shareholders love them.

Overall it is an extremely creative group of people, and their mission statement is fantastic as well "to put smiles on the faces of everyone we touch. We do so by creating new surprises for people across the world to enjoy together." The social impact is also massive, not to speak culturally. Additionally, they have a really strong core business, high customer retention rate and loyalty. Nintendo's reputation is extremely good, I think in the US alone they are 9th most reputable company, their customer service is better than the average company. Plus, the press gives them a pass, because they are Nintendo. But there's a reason why they do that, it's not "because they are Nintendo", there are more layers to the argument.

Then, then there's the random negative gamers online...and their "reputation" which is inside their heads. And their western ideas of how a Japanese company should behave or what they should do. But they have no right to ask a company to do anything for them, because they can vote with their wallets.

There's a small vocal community online who dislikes Nintendo for what they are, but then again, there's always a small vocal community that dislikes something.

Nintendo also disagrees with the Western world about IP, but most people call Westerners "hidoi!" when they emulate Tears of the Kingdom and do not experience it the way Nintendo wanted them (even if it is not the best visual way), because it is a matter of principle to them (Japanese are very much against anything close to plagiarism, and there are laws that are tight about creative works copying etc.)

The Western Braveheart "freedoom!" shouters need to understand that it is not an American company, nor they need to behave like one. They can have their own fights based on their principles (against emulation). And they very well may lose the battle with that and change, or find a new audience.

In the end, it is so very simple. Don't buy the products if you don't like a company, but there's no need to paint a picture that is unrealistic about Nintendo either.

MadLad323d ago

I hate virtually everything about their business practices, actually. Suing everybody for virtually anything, shooting down fan projects, games they never let devalue, their online infrastructure and how they handle BC.

They're lucky they make great games, because that's the only thing I feel they do right.

gold_drake323d ago

my issue with them, is the complete refusal to have decent tech for us.

and their odd censorship and lawsuits for modders.
