"On December 10 -- curiously, the same day Dragon Quest X was announced for Wii -- Sony and Level-5 invited 50 pairs of gamers to a special White Knight Chronicles event at the swanky Akihabara UDX building. Attendees were selected at random from applications made at Sony Japan's website.
The decidedly adult-targeted event (complimentary alcohol was served) began with a stirring live performance of White Knight Chronicles' opening theme by vocalist KAZCO, followed by a speech to the assembled fans by Level-5 president Akihiro Hino. Highlighting WKC's offline "Hero Mode," Hino stated that since his company was already developing Dragon Quest IX, there would be little point in creating something similar. Instead of the classic DQ approach, Hino decided to base the game around a concept of which he was fond -- the quintessentially Japanese transforming hero."
