Halo Infinite Campaign Analysis Shows Xbox One X Resolution Much Higher Than Xbox Series S

Halo Infinite’s campaign doesn’t launch for a couple more days yet, but the pixel counters at various techie YouTube channels are already doing their jobs, and the results are interesting.

Xbox Series S offers dynamic 1080p for its 60 FPS Mode while Xbox One X serves up dynamic 1440p for its 60 FPS Mode.

Zhipp869d ago

*120fps mode. Quality mode is still 60fps on series x.

Eonjay869d ago (Edited 869d ago )

I think this happens because the One X has a GPU and memory advantage.

strifeblade869d ago

I think people are forgetting, the one x was meant for 4k tvs. The series s is meant for HD tvs. So the series s has graphics optimized for HD gameplay. The one x may have a higher resolution but is not producing higher graphical effects found on series s

Orchard869d ago

The situation is not as 100% clear cut as the headline makes out though.

- 1440p vs 1080p max res, but average is actually 1260p vs 1080p
- "The Series X/S do offer somewhat higher-poly geometry/terrain and improved shadows and effects compared to the One X/S"

So slightly lower res, but a more stable/consistently hit resolution and better visuals.

Dave1980869d ago

Also better textures, greater lod, faster loading, and further draw distance on the ss.

This headline is just massive click bait. There's definitely more to a games graphics than just the resolution

NeoGamer232869d ago (Edited 869d ago )

It really doesn't matter.

XSS is marketed as a "up to 1440p" console not 4K. It is only 4K for movie playback. XOX was marketed as a 4K console.

I have one regular HD TV where I have a XSS. It is perfectly fine for that TV. The only thing I wish was that it had a larger storage drive internally.

navi87869d ago

Who would of thought? The weaker system cant produce as high resolution....what a waste of time and effort.

porkChop869d ago

The Series S is pushing a slightly lower resolution while outputting a lot of higher graphics settings. It's doing far more work, so I wouldn't call that weaker.

dbcoops869d ago

So the weaker system is weaker, this is some hard hitting news right here.

gamer7804869d ago

Yup still no slouch though especially those with 1080p tvs still or have the system on a secondary tv

DJStotty869d ago (Edited 869d ago )

@dbcoops

No, the weaker system is still the weaker version, any understanding of resolution/fps/assets would realise this.

One X = higher resolution/lower assets to achieve 4K
Series S = lower resolution/higher quality assets

4K resolution means nothing if the assets are garbage

dbcoops869d ago Show
TheDoomedGuy869d ago (Edited 869d ago )

So a slight change in asset quality somehow makes the series is more powerful?

Microsoft is taking advantage of you...just accept it. The series S is weaker in every aspect except the SSD. And slightly the CPU. Just slightly. Most games focus on vram now so it doesn't matter much.

DJStotty868d ago

@dbcoops

You implied the Series S is the weaker console, which you implied incorrectly, don't be upset i saw right through your comment.

@TheDoomedGuy

"The series S is weaker in every aspect except the SSD."

Someone else who does not understand that higher numbers, does not automatically mean better.

The Series S has faster/better RAM than the Xbox One X
The Series S has a faster/better GPU than the Xbox One X
The Series S has a faster/better CPU than the Xbox One X
The Series S has a faster Hard Drive than the Xbox One X

I implore you to research/learn about differences in components, i.e. GDDR differences, CPU clock speeds/threads/cores, and then you will realise "god damn, it is more powerful"

ocelot07869d ago (Edited 869d ago )

Still don't understand why they put a weaker GPU in the series s than what was in the old one x.

porkChop868d ago

It isn't weaker. It's a newer GPU architecture with features and such that the One X didn't support. It's more efficient, supports raytracing, machine learning, etc like the Series X. If they used the GPU from the One X that wouldn't be possible. Its lower in Tflops, but that measurement is only really comparable within the same GPU generation. On top of all that, the One X and Series S target different resolutions. It's not as simple as looking at tflops.

DJStotty868d ago

@ocelot07

Another one that saw a lower Tflop number and assumed the GPU is weaker.

I really have high hopes for education on this site some day.

Orchard869d ago

The “weaker system” is running with higher quality visuals and effects overall, so your statement is incorrect, misleading and void 🤷

dbcoops869d ago Show
Orchard869d ago (Edited 869d ago )

Glad we’re in agreeance - the weaker console somehow has better visuals overall.

And yes, no point starting a debate you know you will lose / based on shaky foundations.

darkrider869d ago

The one x is more powerful then the s. That's why it runs at higher rez. It's that clear. But nothing. The one x got much higher bandwidth and ram. Of course it cost much more then the s. The only thing stopping the gap from being even bigger is the crappy jag cpu...

Ash01Live869d ago (Edited 869d ago )

I agree, only if you cater your game around the GPU power and bandwidth, which is they did with this game because it's result of the Xbox one era. So they made design choices so that the crappy CPU of the old gen wouldn't be the bottleneck. So it would make sense that the GPU processes like resolution would be expressed in the one X's favor, and the advantage of CPU in the series s wouldn't be as obvious.

DJStotty869d ago

@darkrider

"The one x is more powerful then the s. That's why it runs at higher rez. It's that clear."

You just displayed your understanding or lack thereof, of console architecture with this statement.

darkrider869d ago

This topic already was talked a lot. The s is between the pro and the one x in terms of power. The architecture is diferent, but the diference in power and cu is huge, bandwidth also, ram also. More, if the one x run the game at the s rez the setting would be even higher. Sorry but something that can't run games locked at 1080p says it all. How many times you get dynamic 1080... What is sad is that the true potential of the scorpio console was never reached. Now it's just lazy conversion. Many don't understand how powerful it really is. Again only the cpu is crippling the machine.

DJStotty869d ago (Edited 869d ago )

The Series S will be able to provide higher quality games than the One X, maybe not in terms of resolution, but when it comes to the basics of games, the quality will be higher on the Series S, because it is the more powerful system.

Ram does not dictate a systems power, 10 GB GDDR6 with 128-bit bus, 8 GB @ 224 GB/s, 2 GB @ 56 GB/s, is better than 12GB of GDDR5 RAM @ 6.8GHz w/ 326 GB/s bandwidth (bandwidth is the amount that can be sent to Ram at any time, higher bandwidth does not mean better)

GDDR6 has a faster handling time than GDDR5.

The Series S has a better CPU, at a faster clock speed.

The Series S has a better GPU, at a faster clock speed, based on RDNA2, but less CU's, less CU's does not mean it is "weaker" as overall, it is still faster.

The Xbox One X, is unable to output 120fps, whereas the Series S is.

Bottom line, denying, deflecting aside, the Series S is more powerful than the Xbox One X.

https://www.windowscentral....

This details better than i could, but all you can do is try with some people.

Orchard869d ago

“ The one x is more powerful then the s. That's why it runs at higher rez”

So how do you explain the higher quality visuals on S?

It’s almost like you have no clue about game dev and have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about 😱

darthv72869d ago

Really the only thing weakers in the Series S compared to the One X is the amount of memory. while GDDR6 is faster than GDDR5, the capacity difference of 10gb vs 12gb is something the SS can't make up. CPU wise, the S is better and GPU wise they are on par with each other. 6tf of last gen is akin to 4tf of current gen.

If MS had stuck with 12gb of memory instead of 10 then every one X enhanced games could have remained exactly the same on the Series S where as some of them have to run as enhanced one S games instead. Series S really is the better of the two in terms of overall performance.

That's wild but hey if forge satisfies than that's good

GamerRN60d ago

Also.... Desperate Xbox players? I mean Helldivers2 looks ok, but I wouldn't call it anything to get desperate over..

God of War and the other exclusive are more worth desperation. I don't think I'm gonna even try Helldivers2, in still trying to beat Forbidden West, and I still of Ghosts, Ragnarok and TLOU2 to play

Old McGroin60d ago

Helldivers 2 is a phenomenally good game. You should definitely check it out if you get the chance. Looks like the devs have the server capacity issue pretty much sewn up now so it's a good time to jump in.

WolfSeed60d ago

You clearly haven't tried it. It's pure crack.

MrNinosan60d ago

I thought exactly like you, until I tried Helldivers 2... and then I was hooked.
The only thing that will stop me from playing it going forward is Final Fantasy VII Rebirth next week.

1Victor60d ago

@gamer: “Also.... Desperate Xbox players? I mean Helldivers2 looks ok”

Lest be honest for a minute even Phil want it on Xbox and if it wasn’t desperation the forge player wouldn’t be trying to copy it 🤷🏿

Barlos60d ago

Nobody is desperate over a game. Its pure clickbait.

TwoPicklesGood60d ago

I enjoy Helldivers 2 but it isn’t phenomenal or anything, its just a good game. Sure us ps5 players don’t have many multiplayer games so maybe that skews perspective. What we should be worrying about Is all the bugs and issues that STILL plague the game. It shouldn’t have been released in this state.

Helldivers 2 graphically makes halo on series x look 2 gen behind.

Rdeal59d ago

Are you saying Helldivers 2 graphics are better than Halo's? if so you need glasses , graphics has to be the worst part of Helldivers 2, I have seen better on the PS4

Hypertension14059d ago (Edited 59d ago )

@Rdeal

It's not the best looking game around
but the graphics definitely look better than halo infinite. The destruction on display while also maintaining a steady performance is also very impressive.

I've also seen better on PS4, but I say the same for almost every Xbox Series X game this generation.

Kiryu199260d ago

Why desperate Xbox fans? Why are we so split as a gaming community? So gamers wanting to play awesome games are not labeled desperate?

I don't think it's really unusual.

LittleBigPlanet allowed for that.

Hellblade 2 coming?

Why get either console? All are coming to pc anyway

Shane Kim59d ago

If it wasn't for the initial cost, then I would never get a console.

InUrFoxHole59d ago

Honestly pc is great but I love the convenience of a console

OptimusDK59d ago

You couldn’t help yourself right Jin

Jin_Sakai59d ago

I just couldn’t help but tell the reality of the situation.

goldwyncq59d ago

Or just get a PC because all Xbox and PS games are coming to it sooner or later. Nintendo's the only company practicing true exclusivity nowadays.

Tedakin59d ago

Sony's present said first party games will be on pc and other platforms too. So what? And before you say he just meant "pc and playstation" that was debunked. Day 1 pc is definitely coming from Sony, ending your precious exclusives.

I remember the good old days of Halo 3 and the Forge. Some wild game games came from it.

RaidenBlack61d ago

Just let Coalition develop or at least assist in developing the next Halo ... 343 alone is not enough

Jin_Sakai60d ago

They already assisted with development.

“Gears of War studio The Coalition helped out with Halo Infinite”

https://www.vg247.com/gears...

RaidenBlack60d ago

Then lead the next Halo development with 343 assisting instead ... as well as leverage some of the other new acquired studios if possible

neomahi59d ago

That would be smart, but makes too much sense. BUT, The Coalition is pretty much dead, without Rod Ferguson, there's nothing there. That was the point of that team was that he was heading it up but even Rod Ferguson turned down being the boss and head of his own studio making Microsoft money to go to Blizzard, and isn't it ironic, look where's he's at now. Cliff Blezinski offered to go back to work on Gears and Xbox (one of their biggest IPs) shut him down and told him no. Gears put Xbox on the map, and they told him no. Sony wouldn't tell David Jaffe no if he asked to return to God of War or Twisted Metal, Jaffe is just to lazy, but Xbox shut down Blezinski, completely shocked me.

So, you're right, kinda, but that blood isn't there anymore, the soul of that team is gone so I don't think you'd get the quality you think that you would

Jin_Sakai59d ago

“Then lead the next Halo development with 343 assisting instead ... as well as leverage some of the other new acquired studios if possible“

Certain Affinity would be good but who knows what’s happening there. And I’d suggest keeping CoD studios away from the franchise unless you want Halo of Duty.

Halo Infinite forge is a million times better. maps don't even look like forge made but look like actual dev created maps now

Neonridr60d ago

oh I bet, I just have fond memories of all the different things people came up with. I can only imagine what it's like now.

PhillyDonJawn60d ago

Hell yeah I remember the forge map toilet 😂 good times. Poo and paper everywhere

Blad3runner0061d ago

Don't get this mentality. Nothing is stopping these people from buying a PS5

I don't get fanboyism and refusing to purchase a competitors console.

purple10161d ago

I didn't used to get it, when is was Sega vs Nintendo, but now companies charging for online play, I dont wan to pay 2 separate subs, so you make a choice. also if you were to say invest in extra controllers for mates or whatever, I suppose it all adds up

anast60d ago

So, PS5 is the choice, right?

PhillyDonJawn60d ago (Edited 60d ago )

You're thinking too much into it. Forge creators make anything and everything. This is nothing new. Call of duty and other games have been made in halo forge as well. I was just playing Nuketown and hot potato 2 weeks ago lol (hot potato fun asf btw)

PaleMoonDeath60d ago

Not everyone can afford it mate, some have kids, families etc to support. Very close minded statement, adults don't necessarily care which machine, but money's tight nowadays, bring them Helldivers so we can get the damn Halo & Gears armour on PS5 lol

EvertonFC60d ago

I wanna see helgeist, scorpions, crimera, flying sting rays even some knack enemies etc

PaleMoonDeath60d ago

@Everton, DUDE! KILLZONE 2 HELGHAST SKINS! COULD YOU IMAGINE

Charlieboy33360d ago

They hate Playstation to the point of insanity....yet want a Playstation game on Xbox so bad. These people don't even make sense in their OWN minds...

60d ago
EvertonFC59d ago (Edited 59d ago )

Agreed fella, same can be said for the playstation lot too though lol. We would all be over a gears collection, halo collection, Forza and ori

DivineHand12560d ago

I hope all the persons who agreed with you have an Xbox. Being a multi-console owner is the best thing for a gamer. When Palworld came out I could boot up the Xbox and play it there. I also just started playing Helldivers 2 yesterday and I am having a great time with it.

The gunplay is good so persons who are on the fence for this reason, don't be. The gunplay in this can go up against Halo, Destiny, The Division 2 etc. The gameplay loop is also good with a reasonable progression system. It doesn't have any RPG mechanics so don't expect to see numbers popping up when you shoot an enemy. Progression in this game allows you to unlock cosmetics, weapons and air drops from orbit to aid you on your mission.

HA! All the while Xbox games are popping up in PS stores. To be honest, on day exclusivity will probably be gone and each will just provide a streaming service bundle, but why not have fun while we can.

crazyCoconuts60d ago

And to get you to pick one streaming service over another they would have....

anast60d ago (Edited 60d ago )

You do know how to ask direct questions, right? This is a serious question.

They would have different app features, different UI's, timed exclusivity, and different video game series (live action and animation). Also the streaming services would be tied to mobile phones of choice (Sony vs MS; maybe even Nintendo will get in on this, phone thing.) which have their own reasons for purchasing.

Of course this is in the distant future. They don't call me the Oracle for no reason.

crazyCoconuts60d ago

Exclusives... The answer was exclusives.
But, you being the Oracle you already knew that, didn't you?

anast60d ago

"one day exclusivity will probably be gone"

Yes. I am the Oracle. When this happens you can say I am right.
