‘Halo Infinite’ Just Stuck An Energy Sword Into Battlefield 2042’s Back And Twisted

Halo Infinite’s multiplayer mode released three weeks early when it dropped this Monday on the 20th anniversary of the original Xbox and first Halo game.

Lightning771262d ago

It's no secret MS is trying to be on top of the shooter world. With making slight digs and references to BF. In fact it probably explains why they dont have BF on gamepass day one. They want Halo to have the spotlight. Obviously since it's their game.

ocelot071261d ago

Microsoft have the advertising rights for battlefield. Why would they take digs at it?

Thunder_G0d_Bane1260d ago

I’ve played both. Personally halo feels like it’s halo 3 all over again and I’m way past that now the game needs to evolve. The game feels like it’s stuck in the past.

Having a lot more fun with battlefield 2042 despite some of the bugs the specialists add an interesting dynamic to the regular class system.

ChubbyBlade1260d ago

@Thunder_G0d_Bane

I’m going to strongly disagree. It feels like 3 but updated. It has a whole plethora of mechanics that were never in the old games that fit.

They tried to “evolve” it with 4 and 5 and everyone hated those.

As for the specialists, most people hate those. So you seem to have opinions most people tend to not hold. You say halo needs to evolve but then enjoy battlefield devolving. Curious.

--Onilink--1261d ago

Its not like its MS’s call to determine if BF goes on gamepass…. They dont own the game

Atticus_finch1261d ago

But they would be paying millions to have on gamepass.

Lightning771261d ago

Of course not, there were rumors the game would go on Gamepass which were false. They want their own franchise to shine obviously, despite tye game being advertised and marketed on Xbox.

BenRC011261d ago

Very different markets. One is a very accessible noob friendly arena shooter and one is a military (broken)battlefield

DuckOnQuack351261d ago

Lmao this Halo has a way higher skill gap than this cod game with battlefield name slapped on.

SlothLordPootus1261d ago

@duckonquack That's a good way to tell us you've never played a battlefield game without telling us you've never played a battlefield game. Not sure what part of BF 2042 gives you COD vibes?

Nearly every shooter on the market has a huge skill gap. COD is the easiest to pick up and play, that's why it's so popular, but if you get in a lobby with longtime players, you're gonna get dunked on. That's just how video games work.

DJStotty1260d ago

@BenRC01

"noob friendly arena shooter"

Halo is not noob friendly, your getting that confused with COD which implements lag compensation, and noob advantage.

You clearly have not played much Halo MP.

BenRC011260d ago (Edited 1260d ago )

Someone gets the drop on you in halo you just bounce away and regen your shields. Very, very noob friendly.
Like quake 3 arena for children.
It's a very well built game and looks awesome on the sx, but they're definitely going for the low skill fortnite crowd.

Atom6661260d ago

20 years in, and the same advice is true:

If you think that Halo is "noob friendly" (which really just translates to complaining of TTK), it means you aren't good at the game.

If I get the jump on you and you just "bounce away," it means I seriously messed up.

EA games on Gamepass usually show up a few weeks after launch

thesoftware7301261d ago

Lightning,
Let me fix your first sentence.
"It's no secret that every company that makes shooter want to be on top of the shooter world ". Since that is in fact a truth, they all should be gunning for CoD.

When did MS takes digs at BF? you making shit up bro. EA Play is included with GP:Ultimate and with that you play EA games on Xbox first (timed demos and such) if you are subbed. They also have a marketing deal with BF, so again what are you talking about?

Knightofelemia1261d ago (Edited 1261d ago )

@Lightning77

BF being on Gamepass day one is EA's call not Microsoft's unless Microsoft hashed out a deal with EA to put BF on Gamepass day one. Meaning a boat load of cash to get EA's greenlight to put BF on Gamepass like Microsoft made to put B4B on Gamepass day one. It would be no different then if Tales of Arise went to Gamepass day one Microsoft would have to hash out a deal with Namco to get Namco to green light Tales of Arise day one on Gamepass. Only games that will appear on Gamepass day one are Microsoft owned titles. And what ever title Microsoft works out with the developers and publishers to have third party titles show up on Gamepass day one.

darthv721261d ago

FWIW, the decision to have BF in the service is up to EA and if they wanted to it would be in EA Play (which is part of GP). If you look in the EA Play section you will find other BF games.

Own both games, while Halo's battle pass/playlist system needs overhauled, its miles better than 2042. Halo released without a slew of bugs and server issues where as BF2042 is a steaming hot mess. Portal is the only thing saving that game from falling into the depths of the bargain bin with the likes of CoD Vangaurd. Good to see Halo back on top, here's to hoping they fix the mess of a battle pass

Urrakia341261d ago

According to the BF2077 apologists, the day 1 patch is going to remedy most if not all problems and magically turn it into GOTY material. /s

SlothLordPootus1261d ago

Game definitely should have been delayed. I'm still excited to play it tomorrow, though I'm a sucker for bf games.

Michiel19891261d ago

just like they said about Anthem ;)

UltraNova1260d ago

Sloth, I'm a huge BF fan but there's no way I'll be buying/playing it on launch. 20 hrs with open beta left me with a bad taste.

I'll wait until they fix the audio and most of the game breaking bugs first - even if it takes months. As for specialists, I'm willing to give this system a chance.

4Sh0w1261d ago

Is this just people looking for drama where there is none. EA released their game, Microsoft released the Halo MP to celebrate their 20th Anniversary thats all.

Ashby_JC1261d ago

It is indeed a clickbait article. Both games can exist. It is not like BF fans are going to stop play BF because Halo came out and vice versa. Or I dont know people can play both. Especially being that one is free to play.

Kurt Russell1261d ago

Playing Halo on PC and loving it. The battlepass is atrocious though... Although I would be surprised if they didn't make changes there. Nobody will be even halfway through before Season 2 drops... so no reason to keep spending that money,

Michiel19891261d ago

their battlepass doesnt expire as far as im aware, once you buy one you can get the rewards of it forever. if you buy the second one and the first one isnt done yet, you have to choose which to activate and make progress on while you are playing (as it should be for all bp's in all games). I might be wrong on this, but from what i remember they made a couple comments on this.

4Sh0w1260d ago

Michiel1989
You are correct, they never expire and its a great way to handle a battlepass.

Kurt Russell1260d ago (Edited 1260d ago )

You're both correct. But that's not my complaint... mine is about the way you progress being locked behind challenges. You receive no experience from playing. So you could have a blinding match where you kill 20+ people, nail out overkills all kind of stuff. But because you didn't get a kill with (x) weapon (which is sometimes not even on the map) you don't get any experience.

I have sunk about 6 hours in so far and am level 3. It goes to 100... and typically the real good rewards are towards the end of the battlepass tree. If they drop Season 2 Battlepass, I won't have an incentive to buy in as I will be about 20% of the way through Season 1 content at this rate.

It not expiring is great, totally agree. But they need to have match experience adding to your unlocks if they want me to ever complete the 1st Season and buy in on another.

MIDGETonSTILTS171261d ago

Hazard Zone has a ton of potential, and it pains me to think that the mode might not be supported if this game dies before the patches are finished in a year.

And where the Hell is the Dualsense support? Between that and the lack of ANY voice comms, this game feels like the most desperate attempt to barely launch a game in time for the holiday season.

This game could have been great if they waited a year to release it, and just scrapped the last gen versions (is anybody buying them anyways?!?).

MIDGETonSTILTS171261d ago

Oh, and Infinite is everything I’ve been hoping for since 2007, thanks 343i!

rzac1261d ago (Edited 1261d ago )

Last gen games don't have anything to do with it. The changes DICE decided to with game is what killing it right now. Only 6 new maps on release. Characters that have abilities tied into who your playing as resulting in you possibly having to constantly go into your loadout and switch to another character instead of having them set as a quickselect option. Main complaint is that classes are gone. Resulting in alot of people playing snipers running with ammo just for themselves. Teamwork in this game is completely gone. One of its main staples the destruction physics are bare minimal replaced by storms/tornadoes. Portal has a extremely limited selection of maps that are tied into separate game modes currently only 2 for each era. Not to mention this feels like C.O.D but not in a good way.

generic-user-name1260d ago

I've noticed games with marketing rights on Xbox tend to not be too bothered with Dualsense support as opposed to those with PS marketing rights. Though to be fair it does have haptic support, just not trigger support.

jukins1261d ago

Why would they obtain marketing rights only to launch halo infinite early days before the official bf2042 launch.

VersusDMC1261d ago

Because they thought Battlefield was going to be Call of Duty killer this year and when the public thought the game was meh they decided to F them over.

And probably now that FFXIV is coming out on Dec 8 as well they want to get Halo MP out before FFXIV hype drowns everyone out.

jukins1261d ago (Edited 1261d ago )

Not necessarily sure the public feels that way. More ppl watching it on twitch than halo infinite and vanguard. I myself am enjoying bf2042 far more than halo infinite but that just because ive craved these large war battles all year. Halo is fine but it's more limited maps, guns things to do

But still all i was simply doing was bringing up the question of why they obtained the marketing for the game if all they were gonna do was have halo take away from the player base. Not that its a loss to microsoft but still wasted money

Ashby_JC1261d ago

So in less then a week they (whoever that is) gave up on Battlefield 2042 before it even officially launches on the 19th.

Games will sell for years on end they dont give up on games less then a week LMAO how old are you?

"The story would have been expanded through yearly campaign DLC, so players would not have to wait for another mainline Halo title." ~ this seldom works
But I still think, they should've tried 1 last Halo sequel based on that slipspace engine, that they invested so much on but made for current gen only, before going all in on UE5.

The biggest voices of Xbox’s Halo franchise have been told nothing about the multiple new games in development.

Call me a cynic. But it seems that not even the people working in the studio know what’s the status of Halo.

They were going to add a BR mode, which then got cancelled, but now it’s a sequel to infinite, but may be a reboot of the first game?

It may be normal for development to be like this as super Mario galaxy started as cut content from Mario 128, which then became a tech demo, which became pikmin, which eventually became Mario galaxy.

But 343 or whatever they are called now-certainly don’t have a good track record so it makes me wonder what’s happening.

porkChop164d ago

The Halo: CE remake is a separate project from the Infinite sequel.

Knightofelemia164d ago

Maybe all the staff got laid off.

TheColbertinator164d ago

I'd be much more comfortable with the future of Halo if "343" or whatever they call themselves now were no longer in charge of the series.

WTF!!!? Can we add Tic-Tac-Toe, maybe Connect 4? How bout the card game Go Fish? Microsoft should shelve the Halo Franchise for 10 to 20yrs or sell it clearly they have no new ideas to take Halo forward and putting a "Hey gamer finish the game for us" mode and we can make more money off it and we can fire some more game Developers that we really don't even care about.......Microsoft is done even trying to make Halo a game worthy of even a little bit of our time.
