GTA Trilogy Pours Rain So Hard It’s Nearly Unplayable

The San Andreas portion of the remaster has some serious problems, weather-wise

Orchard1296d ago

I noticed this in GTA3 too, the rain is really terrible, completely obscures the game world.

brewin1296d ago

They definitely rushed this out, needs patch bad. Starting to wonder how much those rose tinted glasses had an effect on people, cuz these are not as good as I remember... Saints Row did it better ✌️💯

Orchard1296d ago (Edited 1296d ago )

Yeah... I was also surprised by the length. I recalled the games being longer, well SA still is long, but I finished 3 in one sitting.

Also encountered quite a few bugs where I had to replay missions 3+ times due to markers not appearing or garages not opening etc.

LucasRuinedChildhood1296d ago (Edited 1296d ago )

They're still amazing games. Saints Row 1 (2006) didn't even come out in the same gen as these games (2001, 2002, 2004) on the 360, and most people would still rather play them than SR1 because they're just that good.

I've never liked how overused the rose-tinted glasses argument is. Millions of people still play these games for a reason. You could more easily use the same argument against Saints Row - it was quite generic compared to Grand Theft Auto until Saints Row 2.

LucasRuinedChildhood1296d ago

@Orchard

These games are shorter now because you can retry the mission without needing to drive all the way back to the mission marker.

Seraphim1296d ago (Edited 1296d ago )

well the games definitely had their fare share of bugs, glitches and issues back in the day. Not quite as bad as an Elder Scrolls or some other open world games but they were there &, at times, extremely bad. I think people tend to forget just how bad it could be. The nostalgia of seeing through rose tinted glasses blinds them. Remembering only the good while neglecting the bad. Shit, you could be running across a street in GTA 3, VC and SA when suddenly you fall through the map forcing you to reset. Run into a building on accident and get stuck there... Or forgetting just how clunky everything was... I mean they're great games, for their time, but the quality of gaming has improved so much since then. Not only graphically but control schemes, menus, etc.

justadelusion1295d ago

Oh It's definitely mostly nostalgia for gamers. Most of these games so highly talked about now were actually pretty meh.

bloop1295d ago

@Seraphim: I don't know what platform you played these games on, but I sunk what must have been thousands of hours into the trilogy on the PS2 back in the day, and bugs were extremely few and far between.

MightyHealthy1295d ago

I wasn't really into them when they first released.
The graphics were a turnoff for me, and running around, driving around shooting ppl didnt hook me tbh.
That changed with part4 tho

CDbiggen1295d ago (Edited 1295d ago )

I thought something was wrong, like a glitch with mine at first when the rain came on. It's hilarious how bad it is.

-Foxtrot1296d ago

That can't be real? Right?

That's awful and it's so dark

Jesus, they really rushed this out didn't they, I'd have preferred a full on, possibly expanded remake of just GTA3 to start with, focus on the one game at a time.

brewin1296d ago

It's real and It's super bad! The brightness is broken in this game. I'm glad I didn't buy and SA is on GP, saved me $60! Maybe I'm just spoiled by FH5 graphics?!

Orchard1296d ago

Also one thing I noticed is, at least in GTA3, the brightness and contrast sliders appear to be inverted?

The game was unplayably dark when I started it and increasing the brightness slider didn't do much, but actually putting it to 0 made it brighter & playable...

brewin1296d ago (Edited 1296d ago )

@orchard

Yes they are 🤣🤦 and even when you turn it all the way 👇 it's still sooo dam dark! I even tried turning off all HDR options on series X 🤷

DarXyde1296d ago

And now you know why they're re-releasing these games instead of making GTA VI.

It's not the same Rockstar. Historically, these people are afraid to put their names on anything that isn't solid. The talent worth keeping left, and here we are.

LucasRuinedChildhood1296d ago

It's not because talent left, it's because they outsourced it and rushed it for the 20th anniversary of GTA 3.

The 2013 remaster was worse and came out in the same year as GTA5. lol. Then they made Red Dead Redemption 2.

PrinceAli1295d ago

You're literally so wrong loool

Rachel_Alucard1296d ago (Edited 1296d ago )

There's a bunch of clues in the many faults that suggests they just used a Machine algorithm to upscale all the textures. They did 2 passes on it and many parts of the game are screwed up as a result and yet nobody bothered to go in and fix anything during development.

For example here you can see the text being so low res the AI thought the M was an H and changed it to adjust.
https://puu.sh/IoQJZ/b7dc9f...

here's another example any human remaking it wouldn't have done
https://puu.sh/IoQKB/9d82bc...

Finally here's where they did one pass and the AI made a 7 in greyscale, then they did another and it changed it to a 9
https://puu.sh/IoQNr/120dbb...

I am not surprised by this since looking at their history I doubt any of them have experience in making large scale remasters, their entire studio knowledge is from mobile ports with minimal effort placed in them. There is no way that studio was equipped to handle this with how many people were on the team.

Overall this is one of the worst remasters on the market and I can't believe people are ready to fork over at least $60 for this, despite the fact R* removed the games off Steam and sold them exclusively on their launcher, took down all HD mods to push this trash, and had one of the least productive dev teams on this in the first place. It's literally just nostalgia and branding carrying sales because quality is nowhere to be found.

Good-Smurf1296d ago (Edited 1296d ago )

The definitive edition actually have more bugs than original.
Then you add in cutscenes that won't line up and location indicator still show during cutscenes less or no collision compared to original.
I actually see one user showed that tenpenny car drive and clipped through a train they supposed to wait in the cutscenes.
Physics toned down or non existent in certain mission.
Terrible audio compression etc.
It's a mess.

CDbiggen1295d ago

It's an abysmal job across the board.

1295d ago
jBlakeeper1295d ago

Please no. They need to focus on GTA VI. But I’ll be happy if they release one new game this gen.

This literally hurt my eyes, like wow.

Knightofelemia1296d ago (Edited 1296d ago )

I'll stick with SA I bought at Wal Mart for my XB1 only paid $18 for it but like wow wasn't aware GTA took place in an area where there are monsoons or hurricanes. Even my PS2 and OG Xbox copies can pull off rain better then this. Talk about rain on steroids looks like it could stab you.

Recent SteamDB Update Further Cements GTA: The Trilogy's Steam Release

GTA: The Trilogy games have seen several updates on SteamDB in the last few weeks. The remastered collection might be coming to Steam soon.

Relientk771257d ago

It would have been cool if Balan Wonderworld was a great 3D platformer but it just wasn't. I'm glad they released a demo and saved me $60. However, when you release a demo for your game and get widespread criticism and negative feedback, maybe you should take that to heart, delay the game and fix/work on it more.

luckytrouble1257d ago

I think the problem is that Balan Wonderworld is flawed at its core, so it was either release the game that will most likely fail, or try to find enough money to basically rework the game from its foundation. I'm guessing the latter wasn't much of an actual option, so we just got one of the most disappointing games of 2021 instead.

JBryant06191257d ago

not sure if anyone was really hyped for that Werewolf game to be able to experience disappointment for it.

Yui_Suzumiya1256d ago

Highest rated game of the year with multiple GOTY awards? Don't make me choke on my 7UP from laughing.

senorfartcushion1251d ago

Their opinion. Goty awards mean nothing to real people

Spenok1257d ago

Picking plainly bad games doesn't make them "disappointing." Much less the "Most" disappointing. If nobody was interested in the first place, there's nothing to be disappointed about.

This article title should be renamed to "Worst games of the year."

EazyC1257d ago

BF 2042, what a honking disappointment that was.

I’ll buy GTA: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition long before I buy Skyrim Anniversary Edition

The Elder Scrolls Skyrim Anniversary Edition appears, at first, to be great value for money. But when you take a second to think about it, you realise it’s not. At all. Now bear with me with this one.

Gta trilogy will be patched it will be worth a buy

Flawlessmic1284d ago

Umm yeaa duhhhh, games that havent been released in 20 yrs vs a game thats been released about 4 times in 10 years.

Skyrim is in the same place place as gta v for me, just **cking die already, stop buying it people ffs, its looks exactly the damm same the least they could do is givs the graphics an overhaul.

I see gta definitive edition getting shit on yet this is even worse as there is literally no upgrade but great we get fishing soooo cool.......

1nsomniac1284d ago (Edited 1284d ago )

Ok. we can all play this game. In their current states I’d buy Skyrim over GTA….

I don’t intend to buy either tho. Not unless GTA has a complete overhaul.

I would however consider you an idiot if you paid full current asking price for either of these games.
