Shin Megami Tensei V Review - IGN

Shin Megami Tensei V if full of crunchy JRPG goodness despite an underwhelming story.

It feels too much like Persona. Nice to see it has some challenge. That massive HUD though.

I really don't get their strategy of releasing Persona/SMT games exclusively across different platforms. Terrible way to grow your fan base if they are split across multiple platforms. Normally I don't care if a company wants to make a game exclusive to a certain system but to do it this way makes little sense to me especially given what a huge hit Persona 5 was on Playstation.

porkChop1274d ago

Both franchises would do much better if they were multiplat.

TheColbertinator1274d ago

Atlus should just bring them to all systems then.

antikbaka1274d ago

it's J-studio. They don't always know there are other countries in the world

Tbh, Persona's popularity came from it's exclusivity. While 3 and 4 were great, so were the ones before it. Persona really blew up because of it being rereleased as a PS Vita exclusive cult classic. So then when 5 came the hype grew because it was finally the opportunity for people without a Vita to find out what the whole craze and hype was about.

These kinds of instances create a hit out of a niche game. Not making it available everywhere lol. That being said, once they go big like the series now has, multiplats now make sense. But if it's like they said there reasoning was before. I respect it and prefer they keep doing it this way. Since they want to focus on making the best game and not worry about porting. Which makes alot of sense.

Also the complaint about doing it this way when P5 was such a hit isn't much of an issue. SMT is the main series and Persona is a spinoff. Really doesn't need to be on the same consoles. The games are separate experiences, if Ninty has exclusive ones and PS gets exclusive ones, cool, as long as it's not like P6 on Ninty, P7 on PS SMT 6 on PS then SMT 7 on Ninty

Magog1274d ago

That's definitely not what happened. Persona 5 reviewed well and sold based in word of mouth.

MadLad1273d ago

Not really lol.
The Persona series blew up literally with 3 on the PS2.
The series didn't take off by offering an updated version of a PS2 game on a handheld only a small amount of people owned.

Not sure where you got that from, but it's pretty farfetched.

PC and Ps4/5 version??? I've been waiting.

Tapani438d ago

If this comes to PC, it is a must buy at full price. Did not want to buy the Switch version due to the performance problems.

FinalFantasyFanatic437d ago

Bring it to PC, if it's an updated version (unless it's sequel, which is also very possible), I did hear rumors of SMT V coming to PC before, but I never thought it could be true.
