Nintendo Everything examines whether Metroid Dread is better than Super Metroid in a new video.

Enric Álvarez, the CEO of Metroid Dread developer MercurySteam, has revealed that the title has now sold over three million copies worldwide.

Wait up, 3 million worldwide out of a possible 120 million is considered good for a legendary franchise like metroid?
Metroid has never sold super well. Lots of people under under the mistaken impression that, because franchises like Mario Kart, Smash Bros., 3D Mario games, more recent Zelda games, and Animal Crossing sell huge numbers, that all Nintendo franchises sell at that level, and that they always have.
This is pretty good for a Metroid. Dread will probably end up being the best-selling game in the franchise, if it isn't already.
Metroid Prime was said to have sold 2.8 million copies, so Dread is likely the best selling game in the series.

Dread is my first 2D Metroid title. I have been enjoying Dread, but I prefer Metroid Prime, Prime 3 and maybe even Prime 2 over Dread. I’m not too found of Dread’s boss battle difficultly, despite having beat Bloodborne, Dark Souls series, and Ninja Gaiden Black and 2.
Personally, I will never be able to fairly compare Dread to other 2D Metroid tiles. How does the title compare to Super for those that have beaten both? I consistently hear that Super is the best 2D Metroid title, if not the best in the series.

Is it a better game than Super Metroid in a vacuum? Sure, maybe, who knows. Is it as good a game as Super Metroid was back when it was release, especially when compared to other similar games?
