I don't care if this is an unpopular opinion, but third person action games aren't what they used to be. They have become annoying walk and talk games that lead into cutscenes with bits of action in between full of characters that never shut up talking.

You ain't lyin. I've been focusing more on indies now.

SpacedDuck34d ago

This looks absolutely awful. I'm actually shocked it's considered 4K as it looks terrible.

ABizzel134d ago

I disagree. Graphically the game looks fine not the best, but above average (for a last-gen / cross-gen game). The issue with me is the gameplay seems uninspired, and the awful level of motion blur they have makes the game look choppy in animations instead of smooth.

This game will live or die by its writing and story, because those are the areas that could make it worthwhile progressing through if it's actually funny and a thrill-ride like the movies / comics.....but I won't hold my breath.

Square make your $1 - $2 billion dollars and sell your western development studios to whomever (most likely Microsoft and honestly that's a good fit IMO) and move forward with your AAA Japanese games and new Japanese IPs. You bought Eidos for 121 million, so you're getting a 10x return on your original purchase price, and if it's $2 billion that should cover the bombing that Avengers had as well as Guardians will likely have.

I'd take this over gaas avengers game any day! Personally, I think this game looks a lot better than I previously thought, well as long as you're playing on the ps5/series X that is.

Inverno34d ago

You're not the only one that's noticed, but try and critique any game these days and you'll be met with hostility. It's all been hordes of brain dead AI with some walking and talking, over simplistic puzzles, cutscene then repeat. It's the over reliance of pretty graphics to help distract as many from the fact that games have been much of the same since Uncharted 2 came out. Everything's a copy of whatever ends up gaining popularity, not inspired just straight copy

While I prefer third person perspective in video games, I do agree with you that most of them have become far too cinematic. It’s great when it is done well, but very few companies write well enough for that. It’s also the reason why everything takes forever to develop and gameplay gets sidelined for high end graphics.

chronoforce34d ago

What do you expect from a game that the developers themselves describe as story driven? The story takes centre stage. Action games that are not story driven will obviously not have as much story, cut scenes or dialogue.

Christopher33d ago (Edited 33d ago )

Other than the player in this choosing to look at everything in the environment, I don't see an issue with hearing the story and providing exposition on necessary elements.

There are plenty of non-story-driven third-person games out there, though. The souls-esque clones out there alone should provide for a full year of gaming.

Petehenning34d ago

This looks like the type of game that will land at 79 on meta and be fine, not great not terrible, just fine.
