I see why they fought so hard to shut down the trilogy mods on PC, modders had the PC version looking as good and in some cases better than this "definitive edition".
This is a pretty significant remaster it's not like they simply upressed the games if they were to remake these games in the modern take engine they wouldn't work.
It would be great if they combined all the worlds together. Maybe a few miles to fly between them or something. Hopefully they add a few surprising features or this will definitely be a wait for sale.
I'm amazed that they didn't release "islands" as DLC to GTA V. Like you say, they could've added a few "Caribbean" islands under fake names, new local missions (and a few to fly back for) and charged £20-30 to all the GTA V owners. It's a lot of work BUT the engines already there and...there's a lot of game owners to sell it to too! Wouldn't surprise me if that's the model for GTA VI (SP and maybe even MP)...
Grove Street games Does NOT DESERVE another chance!!!! They famously screwed up the previous GTA ports that just got taken down. FYI those previous ports where shitty mobile ports they reported again to console.
Zero love or care for original games, slap dash paint job for a quick buck. I have no hope for this DE edition now that this studio thats known for very shabby ports is doing it.
Thanks Taketwo interactive for again being ultra cheap and greedy and having no love for fans or respect for old games.
for $60 these should be absolute stellar ports, not a cobbled together mobile ports with a little higher rez textures.
What I like are actual graphical improvements and more traffic on the road along with better effects
Now if they can make some gameplay improvements and bring some quality of life futures this could definitely be the definitive edition. Mid mission check points please
Hopefully after the success of this we get next game trilogy and we got original RDR remastered. It would also be nice to see you the GTA stories series
I wasn't expecting red dead 2 level graphics so this looks good to me. I just wish I didn't have to wait another month after the digital release to get the physical version
I did not play any of the GTA game prior to IV. I do own the titles included in this trilogy, on serval platforms, but I just never got around to them. So, I was excited when I heard that the Rockstar was releasing updated versions, because frankly the older games haven't aged that well (from a technical standpoint). Man, am I disappointed in this effort. It's completely underwhelming and seems like a bare bones "remaster" if you can even call it that. Maybe worth a purchase when it goes on sale. Definitely not an impulse buy.
From a technical standpoint? GTA 3 and Vice City's sandbox was and still is absolutely incredible. The traffic, the AI, the physics, everything. For that time period, I remember being floored by the visual fidelity of the environments, and even the "Zombie Elvis Found!" newspaper that would be fluttering around in the wind.
i didn't say that the original games weren't incredible. They certainly were, for their time.
I'm suggesting that the graphics, audio, gameplay, and controls haven't aged well when compared to modern iterations. You "remember being floored by the visual fidelity" which is great, but I didn't play the original games back then so I don't share your sense of nostalgia. I can only look at them objectively when compared to current open world games and that comparison makes the originals versions are practically unplayable.
Jeez... these comments. Where was all this whinning when EA announced Mass Effect Legendary Edition? It released and everyone was jerking off to subtle lighting improvement and higher resolution textures.
This will further delay GTA 6 if they can make money putting out low effort products like this. The mods they forced to be cancelled could have looked like this for free. Definitely not buying this i will stick with the original games.
Not watch I hoped graphically, I was hoping for Halo 2 anniversary type of improvements. I gotta see gameplay, if the shooting is like gta4/5 I may get this
Lets be real about this. This is a cheap remaster and Take Two are pouring in money from microtransactions. I don't think Rockstar need any of the profits from this to make GTA6 happen.
Let's be real here. Even if this didn't exist, if they don't have GTA6 in development right now as we speak then we're never getting it. GTA Online carries the entire studio.
If Rockstar was to remake any of their games these games deserved to be remade. I will probably just stick with the originals that I am playing on the OG Xbox on my SD tv(look fine on that), or continue playing on the X360 via back compat.
I love the new look! It looks a bit abstract almost. The way they kept the character models intact but added better textures and animations, etc. It almost looks like some Double Fine-style character design here the way its presented with the exaggerated, plastic/bendy look. I was not expecting this big of an upgrade! Anyone complaining about the new look maybe needs to watch on a bigger screen with a good connection, cuz it looks great!
Just better color is all it is
Remove blur, make it brighter... and you have a Definitive Edition GTA.
Likely get it when heavily discounted.
Could've included the "stories" games too.
I wish it looked better, this is a pass for me.
A definite pass.
