Switch vs Wii Sales Comparison - September 2021

September 2021 is the 55th month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for. During the latest month, the Switch grew its lead by 783,752 units when compared to the launch aligned sales of the Wii. In the last 12 months, the Switch has outsold the Wii by 11.59 million units. The Switch is currently ahead of the Wii by 6.13 million units.

The 55th month for the Nintendo Switch is September 2021 and for the Wii it is May 2011. The Switch has sold 91.59 million units, while the Wii sold 85.46 million units during the same timeframe. The Wii reached current Switch sales in month 62 where it sold 93.39 million units.

Not only that, but there is still so much life left in the Switch (at least two and a half more years). The Wii at this point had hit a cliff, whereas this will be the second best year for Switch sales wise (and will put it over the 100M mark). Another 20-30M after that is practically guaranteed.

Nintendo eliminated two system's to make one dynamic system. The sales were almost guaranteed imo. It was such a good design choice that we now have PC developers creating similar devices. Way to go Nintendo.
