Bloodhunt developer focusing on PS5 and PC to avoid “spreading ourselves too thin”

With Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodhunt’s PS5 release still planned for 2021 and the game currently out in early access on PC, players stuck on last-generation consoles and the new Xbox Series X|S have been wondering if they will ever get a chance to play Sharkmob’s battle royale.

However, it looks as if players on those platforms may be waiting some time to get their hands on Bloodhunt. Craig Hubbard, Bloodhunt’s game director, tells The Loadout that the studio is “squarely focused on PC and PS5 at this point.” He explains that this approach is being taken due to Sharkmob’s philosophy of quality over quantity. “Our philosophy is that we would rather be on fewer platforms at a higher quality than risk spreading ourselves too thin.”

Wise choice. The best platform (PS5 with immersive dual sense) and the most ubiquitous (PC)

GamerRN918d ago

This makes so little sense considering the Xbox is now powerful which means a simple port and 5 minutes of optimization and you have it completed... Silly statement

Army_of_Darkness918d ago

@gamerRN
Sillier statement! 🤣 Because if life was that simple, I would have everything I'd want by now....
I'm sure seeing that the ps5 sales are nearly doubled the series s/x might be a good indication of why they chose Sony's platform first.

"Simple port and 5 minutes optimization"

Way to belittle the work involved in game development.

Concessions have to be made sometimes and they can be making money with the bigger platforms while they port it to the smaller ones.

@army I said the same thing before these new consoles launched. The playstation always makes about double the sales of the Xbox console and splitting the new Xbox into 2 different versions, one where you have to downscale everything and one where it's about 3 times stronger was dumb. The devs don't want to compromise anything and that leads to a lot of compromise. Plus just developing only for Xbox is a compromise in itself. It's easier to just make a playstation game and use the better controller with actual new features. Unless your a game going onto gamepass day one and your indie. This could be a way to make decent money on Xbox.

Less work, better looking game, more money. Plus a cool controller.

KingofBandits918d ago

Thats not how that works @gamerRN. Even if PS5 and PC share some similar architecture porting to Series X is not some 5 min optimization job. It has a completely different development environment.

Nobody wants to optimize for the SeriesS. Working on sub 1080p graphics these days would be an eyesore for me too.

Definitely a great option for this dev as well as any indie devs. I wouldn't even bother trying to get your game on the Xbox platform, as you HAVE to develop for the Series S.

Zero hype and because of that BR the main game will fail

TheDud3Abides729d ago

I'm kind of afraid of that too and the main game looks good so far. Many don't even know the BR released today.

Kaii729d ago

I'm happy with cross-platform games, I'm NOT happy when It's automatically turned on.
You're not going to get console players enjoying BR games when they passively kill the ai cultists & come across KBM players and get zerked.
