And now The Sound & Vision Editors' Choice Awards goes to ... The Playstation 3 for its built-in high-end technology.
and now we wait for the XBOTS to start crying over this
so the editor likes ps3...... thats nice. nice_cuppa & RAMPAGE notepad 2006 Editors' Choice Awards: atari jagua
I do indeed love my PS3. ...ah, let me count the ways... HD gaming...Blu-Ray...visual appeal...wifi...OS capability...removable hard drive...memory card slots...connectivity...etc., etc., etc....
@ nice_cuppa hehe lol
It's official, somebody out there in the video game business likes the PS3!!
It's not actually "someone" from "video games business" yet.
#2 on the list is the HD-XA1 HD DVD Player.
ps3 and bluray is NUMBER 1.and the 360 add-on is nowhere to be found.love that "built-in" technology.
This is a cinema buff's magazine, of course it chose the PS3 as it's winner, because as a central media centre. It cant be denied that the PS3 is best at doing that against the other consoles. In the eyes of a home cinema fanatic the PS3 is a bargain price. (I once spent £3500 on an AMP before) However this review by "Sound and Vision" does not weigh up it's gaming side at all and I don't think they intended to either. I think the Xbox360 can do alot of media things to - sure it's got it's ADD on Drive and PC Media Center Streaming, but in the eyes of the PS3 it's insignificant. This clearly wasn't a gaming article so I don't want to hear any moron utter "Gears of War" in these comments ok!!!
Ok your right HEHE
as media centers, so either way you spin it PS3 won that battle.
that i know i can play my Movies like no other system, Sony needs to hurry and put out some games so I can play games like no other system. HURRY MARCH IS NOT SOON ENOUGH!!!!! (maybe even april)
Game droughts suck. =[
great for sony. This is going to help prove that the price of the system is definately worth it.........or better yet a bargain.... and yes kornbeaner, I am just as anxious as you are for the new games. Just continue to be patient....
I don't know how much significance it has for winning the "Editors Choice Award for Video", I mean did you guys even read what the editor wrote? "As a non-gamer, I approached the prospect of testing Sony's PlayStation 3 ($599) with some trepidation. Would playing videogames make me violent? And what were the chances of a home invasion should word get out that I was harboring a PS3?" -Not one comment about the games?....and he sounds as if he believes that PS3's are very hard to get. Also it seems that multiple electronics won in this category which is specifically associated for "video" quality....none the less any good news is still good news.
Well PlayStation 3 has cool stuff under the hood, It's being critisized too much just for two things right now: pricetag and lack of gaming options. I don't know which system will be a winner (360, Wii, PS3). Now a fanboy would jump out and yell "360! are you crazy, sold more than 10 million!!!" or "PS3!! have you lost your mind? it has HDMI, Blu-Ray, Cell and all Sony inheritance" But after all it's nice to hear positive things about PS3, the problem is, it just not the right system for some gamers right now (because of games and price again) I think that Blu-ray will do great and be used for years (dont even talk about betamax or MD). And because of that it deserves this award. Now someone will think that I am a sony fan maybe, or not but I'm just being objective, I'll be getting a PS3 whenever there are games out that that I havent played on 360, and exclusive games that I have been waiting for (especially MGS4).
So it's finally said to be a fine videoplayer But it lacks games and is optimized for playing video, like the Cell is good for that but not optimal for games. Oh right. It's not about the games on this console...
The "ugly duckling" PS3 is quite a system mart and is preferred by more high end electronics stores to display HD content than any other player. The only dealer in the US (Bjorn's) which has a *10.2 circle surround system with complete EQ control displays his PS3 in the store entrance with the PS3 displaying NBA '07 on a 70" XBR3 (still don't know how they get the power light to light up in the crystal bezel). That's the $33,000USD XBR3 guys, with triluminous technology. I don't need to tell you, it looks amazing. Furthermore, I trust the company that has pumped out more games than candy bars at a Willy Wonka factory over the past decade. I'm not saying its the late 90's anymore, but I will "wait" for what is inevitable. Games, games, and more games. We've all seen what one can do when you put a strong college effrot forth in designing games for the PS3. Bethesda has already shown us this and others will follow. The CELL processor is something that good developers respect heartily and they are eager to explore its depths. We already know that the 50g blu-ray allows for more content translating into bigger worlds, more immersive storylines that can be realized in sharp detail, but couple this with liquid crystal graphics and you've got a bonified winner. Sound & Vision has already got it half right -- the other equation is only a matter of time away. The PS2 started off slow with goodies like Smuggler's Run, Onimusha, and Red Faction, then true gems came along like ManHunt, KZ(reader reviews), AceCombat5, GTA, SOTC, Okami, SOCOM, DMC3, GT3, R&K, and GoW. Once SNE's/Cellius' game machine starts hammering out the hits...beginning with Motorstorm, Heavenly Sword, Lair, KZ II demo?, MGS4. DMC4? just to name a few... It would seem that resistance would be futile. I've said it time and time again: $600USD for a AAA BD player, heavy BR support, HDMI ready, SATA HDD compat., WiFi, Bluetooth, XBR, Full DolbyTRUEHD, DTS support, memory stick (pro-duo) support, loadable OS's, multiple USB's, etc...??? Oh, & it can display games as beautiful as Oblivion within its first trimester of existence?.....This isn't a bargain folks -- it's a freakin' no brainer. Today's goat, tomorrow's darling - go figure. Quack, quack....
I will admit that it is a great plus for people who need a Ble Ray player. It is a ugly negative for people who just want game consoles. I think they are truly justified buy giving the PS3 and award. It really dose allot of great things. I also have to say the reality of the situation is people have a hard time buying a PS3 because the public sees a games machine. Tech nerds see a cheap Blu Ray player. There are allot of gammers out here with the ability to spend $600.00 on a console but there is just something weird about it. That is why most of us including myself is waiting for it to be $300.00 or less. Bottom line the PS3 deserves allot of awards some will given buy unknown editors and most will remove your speech bubbles.
I completely agree with this article, the ps3 is a great multimedia piece of work. But they really need to work on actually getting the games out, most people that want the ps3 likely want it for games, meaning that's what's most important here. I hope sony realizes that.
Sound and Vision is a home theater magazine, not a gaming magazine. The author specifically states that he's not a gamer and comments he make like "the PS3 is currently the only gaming platform that offers the ability to game in full 1080p resolution" bear this out. In addition, the games he cites like RR7, Tiger Woods, and COD3 were all rated higher with better visuals on the 360 (RR6 for the 360). So yes this guy thinks the PS3 is the best BLU-RAY PLAYER out so far for the $$, but as a gaming system, even this non gamer couldn't see any improvement over the 360.
so....... when are the good games comming out?
^^thats what im wondering, someday itll be cheaper and the games will get better and make it worth some money.
