L.A. Dispatch: A DVD Boost for 'The Dark Knight' Campaign

The article reports:

"Sales of next-generation Blu-ray discs alone totaled 600,000 on the first day, leading Warner Brothers to project Blu-ray sales will total 1 million by Saturday. In a surprise, Blu-ray sales were especially strong at grocery stores, indicating that the format is broadening beyond early adopters to more mainstream buyers, notably women."

umm.. if blu-ray sold i million by saturday. and blu-ray and dvd sold combined for 3 mil. umm.. i think DVD sold more than blu-ray did. like 2 million more.

yet DVD still outsold the blu-ray version... didn't it. like 2 to 1 right. but the death of DVD... right.

Blu Ray has moved from 12% to 20% Market share....amazing..^.^

@dis-agrees - I guess Blu Ray's increased Market Share is a bad thing ?

GVON3601d ago

I think it's becoming obvious it's just the beginning.

Danja3601d ago

The Blu Ray era began for me on , November 17th ,2006....never looked back since..XD

arika3601d ago (Edited 3601d ago )

i agree with you 110% that bluray era started on the launch of ps3 and that the early adopters like you and me are a big part of it wining the hd wars, so its very appropriate for me to congratulate you, me and to everyone who now owns a ps3 and supports bluray. it's definitely looking like a bluchristmas for everyone. go blu go!

arika3601d ago

PirateThom3601d ago

Watching it on DVD should be a crime.

BLUR1113601d ago (Edited 3601d ago )

I just got it on dvd instead of paying $30 I just upscale it on my dvd player looks just as good. dvd still is good

Im sorry i don't love movies that much to pay $30 for a movie. I have a samsung dvd player so i am good to go

PirateThom3601d ago

Sure, if you want to believe an upscaled DVD looks as good as an HD image, go right ahead. :)

BLUR1113601d ago

well I know it don't really look quite as good but my dvd player upscales great, great enough for a movie.

Common Sense3601d ago

Are you sure you have an HDTV?

joevfx3601d ago

where the hell do you go shopping for blu rays? i got mine for $20!

ruibing3601d ago

For these new releases, DVD versions aren't so much cheaper than the Blu Ray version. Look it up on Amazon (or your local B&M store), if you want the special edition the price difference is less than $5.

The Dark Knight (+ Digital Copy and BD Live) [Blu-ray] - $23.99 (MSRP $35.99)
The Dark Knight (Two-Disc Special Edition + Digital Copy) - $20.99 (MSRP $34.99)
The Dark Knight (Widescreen Single-Disc Edition) - $14.99 (MSRP $28.99)

The argument that Blu Ray is too expensive just doesn't work anymore. The only time I buy DVDs anymore is when it doesn't need the hi-fidelity, and not because I'm too blind to see the difference.
