Bought a ASRock x470 Taichi back in 2018 with my 2700x, and upgraded along the way. Went from a 2700x, 3700x, to now a 5950x all on the same board, with just BIOS updates. AMD did really good this time with keeping your same board from the first Ryzen up until the current. Still has PCIe 3.0 but I have no need for 4.0 now. Now that directstorage is coming to Win 11, loading games are super fast now but with DS it will be even faster. 😀🎮

5950x is pure waste for gaming alone. Also the first ryzen chips didn't start getting good for gaming vs Intel until the 3xxx chips and then 5xxx. Earlier ryzens just had high latency.

I don't get why some get the most cores when there's no need to. You can get a 5600x or 5800x cheaper that will play games fine, but Intel has better price/performance right now.

If gaming you want core performance, not more of them that will hardly be used, so why not go more powerful less cores and save the money for an upgrade a couple of years later?

I wanted because of 3 things: It has the highest boost at stock, I use it sometimes for when I want to shrink 4K movies I torrent 😀 and the last thing, this CPU is so fast in decompression with the PC games I torrent from Fitgirl & DODI 👍 They compress the games down alot and now with this 32-thread CPU it only takes a few mins to install.

Intel has much worse multithread performance. Single thread gets like 1 or 2% better performance in some games, Ryzen does better in others. This doesn't take into account background services and multitasking, something reviewers and benchmarkers don't think about. Intel will easily fall behind Ryzen when the gaming app isn't all it has to worry about.

Intel was super overpriced before Ryzen came and dropped their prices significantly. Intel is still not worth it in the long run because the heat production, and power consumption are insane. You basically have to get a third party cooler, which drives up the total cost and means it's not actually that much cheaper, if at all, than Ryzen, for the equivalent processors that are listed cheaper. And, the extra wattage that might be needed from a power supply, poor upgrade path for motherboard, the extra power bill. This is also not to mention the throttling if you choose not to have a proper cooler and run it hot, and they will get hot.

The few bucks more for a Ryzen that has more bang for the buck, much cooler temps, comes with a great cooler, and doesn't require a beefier power supply. When all things are considered. It's a no brainer.
