"When I attended GAMES 08 a few weeks back, I had the pleasure of sitting through Midway's presentation of their upcoming games. Through there were some great looking titles to come, nothing could have prepared me for what they demonstrated last – Mortal Kombat vs. DC. Not since Marvel Vs. Capcom has there been such a fantastic cross-over game. The graphics and gameplay in the demo looked great, and the line up of characters was impressive. So naturally, when I received a copy of the game to review for the Playstation 3, I couldn't wait to start decapitating bodies and send fireballs flying across the screen.
It's a bit of a mystery why Midway decided to team these two franchises together, but this is explained bit by bit through the game's Story mode. You choose to play out the story from either the side of MK or DC combatants, and as you flush out each combatant in the game, you do battle against them in traditional MK fashion. It's not an entirely original concept, and the Story mode ultimately boils down to a few cutscenes followed by a battle followed by another cutscene, and so on. Unlike the Story mode from say MK: Armageddon, this one feels slightly watered down."
