Even while trying to nudge itself towards something more approachable, there is still nothing quite like this game.

From looking at the 2 reviews getting the most attention on N4G right now, you'd honestly think this has a Metacritic of around 60.

Currently at 87. What's with the negativity, lads?

Tacoboto1310d ago

People love freaking out over nothing. IGN's is the most commented it seems here - scored a 7 - which is better than the 6.8 they scored the original.

FanboysKiller1310d ago

I hate them more when they're trying to explain what each score means to them like we don't already know but we all know it's bs.

ElvisHuxley1310d ago (Edited 1310d ago )

People I think were expecting a generic action game, this game does something unique and different. As much as people complain about devs never doing anything new, they complain when one does. Not everyone obviously, but I think a lot of people simply didn't get it. The game tells a story through every medium, from the dialogue, to the art, to yes, even the gameplay. They weren't going for some generically addictive gameplay loop, clearly. People by and large have judged the game on what they wanted or expected it to be, not what it is.

EvertonFC1310d ago (Edited 1310d ago )

The old moan it's the same moan if it's different argument lol.
It amazes me gamers sometimes, never happy.
The games basically a walking sim, with inventory management with a awesome story.
I don't get what gamers find hard to fathom.
You even like these games or you dont.
The problem is most people who reviewed the game for gaming websites IGN, KFG etc don't like inventory management or walking sims so why get them to review it in the 1st place.

ElvisHuxley1310d ago

@EvertonFC I think even calling it a walking sim is oversimplifying it. The gameplay is tied to the story, you're literally acting out the plot. You're carrying the heaviest load you can across difficult terrain. Bearing your cross if you will, in order to improve a seemingly hopeless world. A timeless story, but an effective one. Rather than disconnect the story from the gameplay, it's all woven together. It's pretty rare to have gameplay mechanics be part of the narrative, usually you just get some generic tried and true gameplay loop. It was pretty refreshing to see IMO, and it worked if you got it, and didn't think it was just some arbitrary busywork to fill in the gameplay.

UltraNova1310d ago

Elvis,

You get it my friend.

CaptainHenry9161310d ago (Edited 1310d ago )

"What's with the negativity?"

It's probably because it's on PS5

Aloymetal1310d ago

Exactly. This game is just another game for PS users and it's great but it could easily be the game of the gen for another certain platform.

Snakeeater251310d ago

No i love my ps5, this game is not for everyone. That’s what the Sony fanboy don’t understand that not all exclusive should get 10/10 form everyone.

The game look really good but it’s just not fun to play.

Sgt_Slaughter1310d ago

The irony. Mostly everything non-PS4/PS5 related on this site for years has gotten unnecessary negativity and stories in the Pending queue take longer than Sony stories. It's a pro-PlayStation site through and through.

Snakeeater251310d ago

The review should be divided in two

Art direction 10/10
Fun factor 2/10

Nyxus1310d ago

I disagree, I thought the game was fun. It's a matter of taste.

Snakeeater251310d ago

Yes that’s what a review is all about

Nyxus1310d ago

So why are you saying their review 'should' be different?

Snakeeater251310d ago

Because a review is not a dictature,
I still can say my opinion

CaptainHenry9161310d ago

That's subjective and a matter of opinion, right ✅ 🤔

Aloymetal1310d ago

Another great review, nice! Bunch of 8's 9's and even 10's

Got the Director's Cut platinum a couple of hours ago.
Ready for DS2 now.

Storm2325d ago

I have been slowly working my way though this game for months. I keep playing other games in between but I want to finish it before DS2.

Knushwood Butt24d ago

I ended up with over 140 hours on it, but I wasn't exactly rushing. Ended up seeing to it that all roads were rebuilt too.
There are still a few Half Life missions left that I think I'll do.

lukasmain25d ago

Man I love this game. Platinumed it and played through it a 2nd time just for fun. I'm day 1 with bells on for the sequel

anast25d ago (Edited 25d ago )

In still drop in this world from time to time. I just played it yesterday.

It got a lot of hate from people who weren’t going to play it because it was only on PlayStation at launch but it’s a unique game that I recommend to anyone who wants to play something a little different. It’s a little slow in the beginning(like a lot of games) but the atmosphere is great, gameplay is fun, and the story is weird which I always appreciate. Definitely buy it. We need more weird shit in gaming especially at this level of quality

pwnmaster3000153d ago

Right.. it’s not a “walking simulator” no more.

mkis007153d ago

This game was a breathe of fresh air in an industry of recycled genres. Playing through it felt like taking a nice shower after a week. Glad it has gotten a good reception finally by non ps/pc players.

Without ZERO marketing investment!

Crow was served to those who predict that DS sales on Xbox would flop!

Now that Kojima owns the IP, I definitely can see DS2 coming to Xbox rather sooner than later!

PrinceOfAnger157d ago

It's interesting to see a Decima engine game running on xbox

darthv72157d ago

I dont see why... i mean did people think it wouldnt run on XB?

RaidenBlack157d ago

Should run really well ... even on Series S ... given the base game was made for PS4.

157d ago
Zeref156d ago

I remember the PS fanboy armchair devs swearing that Decima can't run on Xbox 😂

Um, the price is 50% off. The bigger story would be if it WASN'T doing anything.

Julion0715156d ago

The bigger story would be that for you*

goken157d ago

I must say I am surprising.

Even at a discount it doesn’t take anything away from the feat. Let’s remember DS was kinda like a surprise drop, thus very little marketing.

It shows as long as the game is good and price is reasonable, you can still sell well on xbox

TheEroica157d ago (Edited 157d ago )

Careful! The corporate lusting Sony fans will downvote you... Gamers first!!

“ A major part of Death Stranding Director’s Cut’s success on the Xbox Store is the massive 50% off sale, allowing both new and old players to grab the game on the platform.”

With that much of a price reduction it would be a real shame if it didn’t sell well.

Lightning77157d ago

Yep that's why I said this lol

https://n4g.com/comments/re...

Question is will they show up for DS2 whenever that gets released for Xbox?

157d ago
VersusDMC157d ago

Unless we see the sales number we don't know if it's selling like hot cakes. Being ahead of call of duty for a day when it's on gamepass doesn't really say a million sales(which is a selling like hot cakes number)

But it is outselling the full game call of duty if you look at the image on the article it is only behind the 27 dollar COD Vault edition upgrade.

darthv72157d ago

Huh... would ya look at that.... people buying a game on XB.

Chevalier157d ago (Edited 157d ago )

Its an exception and not the norm. If you want to argue that then go see Xbox own reports and all the information from the FTC releases have shown without a doubt Xbox gamers do NOT buy games. Nowhere close to their competitors

darthv72157d ago

...not arguing anything, its just an interesting observation. Make of it what you will.

Petebloodyonion157d ago

"ts an exception and not the norm"

Yet, all these companies continue to make the same error by releasing their games on a system where sales are low. Why don't they heed the advice of Chevalier, who seems to understand better than market analysts that Xbox gamers don't buy as expected? Consider the millions of dollars these companies could save by not producing an Xbox Series S version and paying for quality assurance, among other expenses.

And to think that there's a strong rumor that Black Myth Wukong might be released on Xbox next year, I thought that Game Science knew better.

thesoftware730156d ago (Edited 156d ago )

Chevalier,

Man that FTC shit is old now, the data at that time wasn't even the most up to date, so now it's really not even viable information anymore.

And then you say DS is "exception", if this is selling, and Cod is selling, and the vault edition is selling, then we can clearly see it's not only this one game.

By your logic, who obviously knows better than developers, no game should launch on Xbox...it's such a stupid narrative you keep running.

PS sales will always be higher because the have more console sales by double or more...the percentages matter. So just stop with the foolishness already, when you really think about this line you will see how stupid it sounds..
"without a doubt Xbox gamers do NOT buy games."

Read it again, you don't say, low sales even if only 100 people bought a game on Xbox, then your statement would still be super wrong.

Julion0715156d ago

You mean how 75% of ps players dnt buy their own exclusives?

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 156d ago
MrNinosan157d ago

How many copies did it sell?

Chevalier156d ago (Edited 156d ago )

Honestly it's easier to release games later to Xbox because they would have made all their money on competing systems. There's a reason why so many games outright skip Xbox altogether. This doesn't change that AT all.

Go ahead and compare games that only go to Playstation and Nintendo and you will see significant amount of games don't bother. In fact while you guys want to say that the FTC stuff is old it doesn't change the fact that Microsoft/Xbox acknowledged that Playstation has literally 1000's of games skipping Xbox. That's a FACT.

@thesoftware730

Oh yeah?! Prove it. Notice you can't ever site any examples?! You know why because these are literally exceptions NOT the norm. Go ahead post some links that prove what you're saying then? Oh right you would need proof and you don't got that either.

Can you name a single 1st party game that Xbox studios created that even moved 10 million copies in the last decade?! No? Because there's none of those too.

Julion0715156d ago

Bro you yapping if Xbox does or dnt yall find anything to complain or discredit touch ass or grass
