Dragon Ball FighterZ was “a big influence” on Midnight Suns’ animations and combat

Firaxis has revealed in an interview with Edge magazine that the studio has taken inspiration from how manga has been captured in anime, and subsequently games.

Art director, Denis Moellers, says in the #363 edition of Edge Magazine that one of the key focuses for the team was how to translate these comic-book Marvel characters to a fully animated game. Moellers specifically references how anime is able to “translate these amazing comic-book poses into animation” and that Midnight Suns uses the same philosophy for superheroes’ Heroic attacks animations, like “Captain Marvel delivering an uppercut with glowing fists, Doctor Strange opening the Eye Of Agamotto, [or] Nico sprouting wings of black energy.”

Yeah but gameplay first, animations second. FighterZ is an amazing competitive fighting game. Midnight Suns looks like a mobile game with top tier graphics. Like an upgraded version of Marvel Strike Force

Lego games are always fun... and that is one I had not played before.

isarai35d ago

It's always the ine they leave out if the headline that interests me most 😅 DBZ Kakarot, been waiting for this to pop up on plus

Kyizen35d ago

I completely missed that DBZ Kakarot was in the group, I have midnight sons and RE3 so was kinda disappointed.

Yea, it’s my last chance to play my childhood, now that he is gone. I’m watching way too many good anime at the moment to rewatch the series but this is the perfect excuse to visit that universe.

Never played Midnight Suns and probably won’t anytime soon but maybe someday. Pretty good month not great not horrible. I used to love sports games when I was a kid but that was before the monetization they went through and now I avoid them.

phoenixwing35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

Not all sports games are like that but ea and 2k games are definitely

DarXyde34d ago

Definitely give Midnight Suns a download if you've got Plus.

It's great.

phoenixwing25d ago

I agree midnight sun's is fun

Eonjay35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

Heard a lot of good things about Midnight Suns! Also looking forward to Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot and will probably download 2K24 as well.

LucasRuinedChildhood35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

Not a great month for me. Will give Midnight Suns a go.

I've never played Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier. Might give it a go although it's supposed to just be okay.

Never played a Phoenix Wright game before, so might try Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy.

SonyStyled35d ago

The Lost Frontier isn’t a true Jak and Daxter game. If you haven’t played them before I’d highly advise skipping The Lost Frontier and spending your time on the trilogy. The real Jak games are developed by Naughty Dog

LucasRuinedChildhood35d ago

I'm a big Jak & Daxter fan. Just not that into portables so I never picked this one up (didn't know there was a PS2 port when I was younger).

Damnit , shtty for those people. I've liked most of what I've played from them. Especially xcom. Love that to death. I still havent picked it up but it's in the plans. I personally think people were turned off due to the card based system. Despite that I've read it was good but I can't help but think it wasn't the smartest move.

Yi-Long321d ago

I think most of us just wanted X-Com but with Marvel, and they went with a card-game instead. I’m sure it’s a decent/good game, but for me personally, I never had an interest in playing a card game, and I never liked how Midnight Suns looked. I know it was based on a comic series, which is dark and has dark characters, but I’ve never been all that interested in ‘dark’ games, vampires, etc.

On top of that, I just wasn’t impressed with the character-design.

We know they can make brilliant games (X-Com 2), and they had access to one of the biggest licenses in the world, and it’s just a shame they chose a direction that just wasn’t very appealing to a lot of players.

CrimsonWing69321d ago

I think you should try it. The card game is literally just changing up your moves so you don’t spam powers and win without challenge.

There’s also no “missing” with moves.

It plays like X-Com other than that.

anast321d ago

Whoever made the decision to make a card game needs to be let go too.

Strange99321d ago

Midnight Suns missed the mark. I thought it would be great and it was a fail. So repetitive.

potatoseal321d ago

I heard the story was extremely bad on this. Bad and boring dialogue on cut scenes. I think I recall that from SkillUp's review
