It's a little different, it's like a weird mixture of a fantasy RPG but blended in with something that seems like fans of the Twilight movies would of liked.
I don't want all games to be the same, so I'll keep an open mind and give it a chance. Who knows maybe this character will grow on us and we'll find out she has a deeper personally that meets the eye. And besides the gameplay and graphics look pretty sick.
Definitely. I'm hoping they've just over-egged the character and dialogue for the sake of the trailer and misjudged it a bit.
Maybe that OTT sarky/'alt-cool' tone won't be so in your face when you're actually playing the game. I hope you're reading this SE, as everything else looks great!
The graphics and gameplay looked great but the dialogue seemed a bit immature and lip sync was off like in an old game. Hopefully they can fix it since no release date was given.
Same for the KOTOR remake they hired a terrible writer and self proclaimed sjw fighting the patriarchy to rewrite the game… might end up being worse than the original.
Categorize them and they'll categorize you. The "them" are our brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, they're of us and we are of them. This mad war game must end, it's stupid, that's what it is.
its made for woke trash is more like it. This is just more "its HER turn" BS and the entire thing reeks of it. The dialog is terrible but the pandering is the worst offender. Watching this bomb on release is going to be hilarious.
that's my thinking. My initial thought, was, wtf, they trying to create a Miles Morales. It works in Spiderman. Or perhaps even other games/characters ala Deadpool. A game like Forspoken, to me, seems like it should take a more serious tone. Shit I got warped to another dimension I'd be freaking the F out, not cracking wise ass remarks. It's like they're taking an amazing idea and butchering it. I'll likely still gladly play it and only time will tell how it truly pans out once released but right now, not a fan.
At least she doesn't sound like a bitchy over critical gamer. The dialog in the trailer was just fine. So what if it sounds a little Spider Man movie like.
I have no problem with the dialog. I actually like it, it’s a vulgar teen that is thrusted into a fantasy universe and doesn’t seem to have a righteous complex.
She’s cursed multiple times since she was announced. So Vulgarity is apart of that dialog. I really don’t understand the dislikes even if people wanted to say it’s “Marvel-like” that’s a co-relation that these people put into their own mind and space.
Again a modern teen popping up in a fantasy world isn’t going to have the dialog of the never ending story or the page master.
It is what it is, and I’m looking forward to it regardless.
That I don’t disagree with, but I still critique it all the same. Since I was a child that whole aspect of being overdramatic and how this specific writing team has chosen to make her character is cringeworthy to me. It immediately made me go from “may give the game a try” to “hard pass or wait for PS Plus” because I won’t want to pay money to follow this chick on her journey. Made me grateful FF XVI isn’t too far behind it. To each their own though
Im in the same boat, I liked the look of the fantasy world and gameplay, but the main protagonist and the things in the parallel world turned me off a bit.
Same for me. I mainly play games for the story and interesting characters. That's what motivates me to keep going. So far, characters seems to be these "woke" type of characters that is populsr everywhere now.
Kind of surprised that Amy Hennig and Gary Whitta are responsible for that dialogue. They've written some good stuff.
It is only a trailer so maybe the corny dialogue will be used sparingly and to good effect in the actual game, and the trailer was hopefully just overloaded with it.
There was another trailer where the main character yells "F*** off" as she used a spell on an enemy though, so ... not sure. haha
I just saw that. ^^ I think that f*** off was quite fresh. Seems like they are going for action movie lines. Might be a fun change for normal game speak.
Sounded fine to me and pretty accurate to what I'd expect tbh.
And to the ppl saying it's cringe or a fail at teen dialog lol. You don't want them to mimic today's teens lol. It's clearly inspired by the teens in a different time and it a girl thrown in another world. She doesn't need to be boring and quiet lol
Trailer gave the info needed. Also it's Square Enix, they clearly took random lines from all over and put it together just so you got an idea of the situation. Like they always do.
Honestly loved everything about this game except for the dialogue. Just seemed like bad writing to me. I am a male gamer in my 30s though so maybe it's just not for me.
Isn't the premise of the game that she's pulled in from regular New York, into some mystical land and now she has powers? Pretty sure they are going for the "This is what the audience is thinking" approach
The animation was fine but the faces look like the animation isn't finished because it did seem off. But I guess that's the problem with using people as face models alot of times
I didn’t mind the dialogue but the mouth animations didn’t match up with the words and it was noticeable and off putting. Unless it was just my stream lagging.
I tried listening to it but it felt cheesy that I just skipped that section of the ps show case video. Due to the odd dialogue choice I feel I have no interest in the game.
Seems like a typical teenage drama show not my cup of tea but many will like it I'm sure. It's clearly aimed at the teen market with a loner New York teen fish out of water concept rated t concept. As for the swearing who cares games have been swearing for the longest time no one cared when it was Trevor in GTA but now it's a problem?
Looking at gameplay and graphics it's high quality however so if this comes to ps plus I'll check it out
Man, jambola really seems passionate about the dialogue in Forspoken. He’s responded to damn near every post. Calm down, man. They made a trailer with a handful of lines to show the audience it was an isekai. The game’s regular dialogue will probably sound a little less forced.
loool... She literally speaks like people in my hood and general area, nothing about it is jarring at all!! You should keep your mouth shut if you have never actually been brought up and influenced by this sort of thing... you absolute weirdo
lool... again.. You've shown yourself to be a dumbass so what else is there to even discuss here! You might as well Play Sleeping Dogs and start complaining how the Cantonese used in that game isn't up to snuff even with you fully not speaking the damn language you donkey!
Gameplay looked amazing but as an anime fan, my eyes rolled at the isekai narrative. A good game is a good game though, I doubt the dialogue will seriously hamper the experience.
As some people have already mentioned these sound like random lines thrown around in the trailer. That's just an advertising style. Maybe the advertising could be better but it's not always indicative of how lines will be said. Sometimes they are changed in how they are spoken if they are even spoken at all in the released game or movie. Some lines are taken out entirely. There was a lot of this in FF7R trailers for instance, but the overall dialogue in that game turned out to be quite a bit more impressive than initial impressions.
It is a bit much like a Marvel Movie. But to be honest that is much better than the uncanny valley japanese acting with english voice overs that most of the times do match the acting but feel rediculous overacted. (With japanes voices it works ... but I want to understand the dialogue and not reed subtitles in an action game). The marvel style, while a bit too much on the want to be funny side, is more natural to me as a westener.
It's made for Marvel fans and Zoomers.
Trying to be too cool than it needs to be.
Keep it simple silly. Let the gameplay do the talking.
It sounds like the usual portrayal of what teenagers find cool, snarky comments and punchline
I mean... it's called forspoken...
I have no problem with the dialog. I actually like it, it’s a vulgar teen that is thrusted into a fantasy universe and doesn’t seem to have a righteous complex.
She swears, she’s intrigued, she’s having fun.
