Easily the best looking and moving game out right now and why? Next-gen/New-gen exclusive, and I can't wait to see their next title as they said R&C:RA is just the tip of the iceberg as far as what next-gen/new-gen is capable of.

Deathdeliverer49d ago

Hey, ignore all this. A article was posted that it could all be done on PS3! I refuse to believe my eyes because someone on YouTube has a theory!

This was all about the SSD and nothing more. And it's not really a theory dude, the guy was a PS3 developer doing similar things back then and breaks down how, because of the controlled nature of the rifts, it could be done. He points out that every time there's a rift there's around 8 or so seconds leading up to one where a level could be streamed in in the background. Given that the PS3 had about a quarter of a gig of RAM to work with that'd be enough time to load PS3 level assets in that time. We push forward to now with larger assets needing to be streamed in a short time then obviously an old HDD is not going to cut it ...but a regular SATA SSD probably would, if it's been programmed intelligently like the programmer in the video you're referring to suggests.

Just because it could be done with trickery doesn't mean it was. Insomniac's creative director said the worlds are loading at "near instantaneous speeds" and I don't see any evidence to call him a liar, if anyone is suggesting that.

"Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart is a game that utilizes dimensions and dimensional rifts and that would not have been possible without the solid state drive of the PS5" - Marcus Smith, Insomniac's Creative Director. That's the opening quote of his video dude. And that's the exact thing the developer goes into detail to dismantle. And nothing more. He also goes into detail to qualify what he's saying, agreeing that perhaps while it may not have used smart streaming logic, it totally could have. He's just pointing out the marketing spin, no need to get triggered by it or the admittedly clickbait title, the PS5 still has a great SSD and Ratchet & Clank still looks to be a great game by most accounts.

Why does everything have to be all or nothing with you? By all means praise insomniac for their great game and Sony for having a great console but you just come across as being obnoxious all the time with your thinly veild digs at other companies.

I wouldn't say it was a dig. I think he honestly believes what he is saying and I kind of agree with him. Only other platform that is capable of matching Insomniac and Sony with games like Ratchet & Clank is Nintendo.

Rift Apart was good, but honestly, I had a lot more fun with Psychonauts 2.

p.s. Highly recommend PN2 to anyone reading this comment! If you love platformers, you'll love it.

Wow, thank you so much for the contribution. A diehard Xbox fan had more fun with a non-PS exclusive. Who would've thought!

Orchard48d ago

@F0XH0UND922 I said Rift Apart was good, PN was just more fun due to the level design, special powers and collectibles etc.

A die hard Xbox fan wouldn’t have a P.S. :) so I guess I’m not a die hard fan :(

This game is fantastic. I'm near the end.
