The long-awaited sequel gets a release date, pre-orders start soon, and the much-requested 60fps patch for Horizon Zero Dawn is now live!
Not surprised. People keep dismissing the Pandemic as an excuse, but here we are. Looking forward to it regardless!
Agreed the whole pandemic has pushed everything back 6/12months
Playstation also does tend to keep releases away from Christmas and holidays. Tons of triple A games release around those times so they know that gamers will be entertained.
Even though they do, I don't think they intended for all off these games to be delayed just to avoid the Holidays. The only thing they have would be Deathloop.
@sunnyd I'd agree if Sony didn't make it a habit of delaying games past the holidays.
It never had an official release date to begin with. So how was this game even delayed 🤔
Both of these videos state a target window of 2021: https://youtu.be/qIyz_7Hz3U... https://youtu.be/2KROCZ1q4O... And from the blog itself: "While the decision to move the game’s launch to 2022 certainly wasn’t easy" That's called a delay.
@Doge How soon before we can stop blaming Covid for things that have been happening long before it? While Covid didn't help, video game delays have been a running joke for the entirety of last generation. Horizon: Zero Dawn was also delayed from 2016 to February 2017. https://blog.playstation.co...
It’s just lazy excuses. It’s call bad développer and bad planification
hey, Halo Infinite started production like 4 years before covid and yet we still get covid as one of the excuse. so...maybe after that?
Pretty much all of Sony’s first party titles get delayed at least once. I can’t think of one that hasn’t been delayed really.
The original Horizon was delayed, sure. But that doesn't mean Covid is not a valid explanation. People are able to plan around it, work from home, etc., but there are still plenty of unknowns that pop up. For example, isn't it possible that key devs have had family emergencies related to Covid or they themselves have contracted the virus? And that just calling it "Covid related issues" is a blanket term that protects their privacy? I genuinely believe that it is Covid for a very simple reason: Sony actually seems to have gotten much better with estimating their release windows and have been making announcements later into games' development cycles. Granted, I never mind the delays because they work out splendidly and the games are better for it, but I do believe it's a valid explanation. Covid is quite unpredictable in its mutations and policies/restrictions are being implemented in the fly. These are not normal times and I think it's fair to attribute these challenges to that.
I don't think it really matters why a game is delayed. There are numerous reasons games get delayed. Problems in development, COVID, ambitious vision, unpolished/tested, etc. It matters that the developer/publisher cares about it and decided to delay the game to ensure it meets the vision they intended for the game rather then releasing it in a bad or unpolished state. - That should be the reason for delays.
So the delay rumors were accurate - bummed that we won't have this for Holiday, but not a huge delay.
If everything went the way they planned it before covid it wouldve been great for ps5 owners
Yeah - Covid has really screwed the industry. So many game delays, and getting hardware for consumers is near impossible. Granted, it feels silly to complain given it’s obviously had much worse impact on others.
That's true but its been great for Sony fans for a year now.. Sony already released a few games this year and last year already. Rachet and Clank, Returnal, Demon Soul's, and Spider-Man miles morales.
I don't know why you got downvoted, it was an honest and factual statement.
maybe they'll take this time to fix her face not a fan of the new look...
Don't mind the chubby look. Fat or chubby people are humans too.
I didn’t say her face looks bad it’s just inconsistent of her character design which I’m not a fan of. You are free to like the change but it’s still not consistent . @Atticus aphelion82
I wasn't a fan of Nero's design in Devil May Cry V, or Vergil's, who really should be treated as a Dante's brother, rather than his twin. I got over it very quickly though because I'm an adult. You don't have to like it, but to say it needs to be "fixed" is just a bizarre comment to me.
@DarXyde i prefer the adults that make the game change it, but whether one has to "get over it" or not is irrelevant to the validity of the opinion itself.
I think you misunderstand, lad. Your opinion isn't invalid. Of course not. I'm saying that what you originally said is bizarre: You said "maybe they'll take this time to fix her face" —that is not the same as what you're saying now, which is "change". You don't have to be a fan of it. I just didn't understand why we're talking about fixing it. That implied there is something factually wrong with it. I promise I'm not trying to be pedantic. I am replying in good faith to your post as I understood it, as it was written. My point is pretty simple: if we use an example, changing your windows is not the same as fixing them. Fixing them implies damage was done/they're broken. Changing implies a matter of preference. So when you say "fix", I disagree with that. Fictional characters and all, it makes little sense to me.
DarXyde thats fair, i'm being dramatic with the "fix" part, just my opinion that they don't didn't need to change her face, it doesn't really fit her environment and active lifestyle, all just my opinion.
No harm, lad. I hadn't given much thought to her design choice, honestly. More than anything, I'm just excited to give it a go. It's possible this is more of what they would like with Aloy. To be fair, Guerilla seems like a dev where if you complain about these things, they'll double down. Who knows? Either way, I'm sure we understand each other now. Cheers, mate.
What delay? It never had an official release date
They said 2021. It's delayed.
Did you read the article? It's literally in the PlayStation blog post above: "While the decision to move the game’s launch to 2022 certainly wasn’t easy, we’d like to take a moment to thank all of our fans for their unwavering support;" - Mathijs de Jonge Game Director, Guerrilla
@Bathyj thought they said they'll try to have it 2021 after. It was planned for 2021 but not gurentee
There were several articles that had been submitted last month about the rumored delay. They were canceled due to anonymous sources but yet... here we are. Here are a couple that i know of. https://n4g.com/news/243282... https://n4g.com/news/243284...
@darthv72 One of those was flagged by me and here I am commenting on an article about the now confirmed delay - I can confirm that eating crow does not taste good :P But in all seriousness, I'm just following the rules of the site - if they change it up to allow anonymous rumors then great =]
They never guarantee a 2021 release date though. It was just a target date. They said they'll try to launch it in 2021. Basically it would have only been a 2 month delay after 2021 but not a one year delay or multiple delays like some other games
@CaptainHenry916 "They never guarantee a 2021 release date though" No release date for a game is a 'guarantee' - every release date is a 'target date'. "Basically it would have only been a 2 month delay after 2021 but not a one year delay or multiple delays like some other games" Right... 2 months or 2 years... it's still a delay which you said there wasn't.
When a dev is targeting a year, without putting down a hard date and we are approaching the end of that year, it means the game is probably not ready to be released this year. I don't know why anyone is surprised by this to be honest.
You're correct @CaptainHenry916. They never came out and said a official date until now. They said they had a target window but could miss it so now the media are screaming a delay while some folk parrot it on youtube or around the internet. Something can't be delayed when it never had a official release date to begin with.
At least there’s a 60 fps PS5 patch for the first game to hold us over
60fps patch for Zero Dawn!
As far as delays go... it happens. but how is nobody talking about this part ^^... that is huge news.
I really *really* thought that this 60fps patch wouldn't come. That Death Stranding (so far) even with a newer version of Decima didn't get a 60fps patch for its PS4 version was also telling to me. But here it is - HZD PS4 in 60fps. Not a $10 upgrade, not a $20 Remastered only included as an in-app purchase. Props to Guerrilla and Sony on this.
I figured as much. I still think playstation is getting a bunch of stuff out of the way for their conference I've always thought would be mid September. I think right after deathloop launches they will have an event.
Playstation experience in December is my guess?
They said more shown in summer. Summer ends sep 22nd. Idk though, could be a state of play too.
Annoyed it won't come out this year but the holidays will be packed with COD, Battlefield, Halo, Back 4 Blood, Far Cry 6, Guardians of the Galaxy, Forza Horizon 5, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Dying Light 2: Stay Human
Dying Light 2 and Far Cry 6 is the only game I'm looking forward too. The others I'm doing a wait and see approach
Both are going to be delayed to 2022 haha
Fox What's amazing every game that you listed I have zero interest in 😂. But I do have a huge backlog so I don't think I'm complaining
Dying Light 2 the only one of those that interest me at all
I was excited for Back 4 Blood until I played the beta...oof. Fortunately L4D2 is as good as ever.
September 2nd here I come!!!
60fps patch finally ! Geez.. I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with HZD and i played it a couple of times and it was always just.. ok to me so i hope this is finally that one time when i will trully love it.
The game was awesome at 30fps. Doubling it's frame rate isn't going to change that love/hate relationship you have with it. I doubted the game before its release. I wasn't exactly sold on the whole dinosaurs made from machinery and computers bit. But after giving it a play I couldn't really find much to fault with it. Great graphics, excellent story, good gameplay and combat mechanics etc. I wish I had left the New Game + run-through for this new patch though like I have with Spiderman.
Well damn. That's a shame but not unexpected. I did want to do a new game + run of Zero Dawn before release so I guess I got time now.
I Bathyj since they said a target date for 2021 they could have released in in December and it would still be just a 2 month delay. I'm happy it wasn't a one year day or multiple delays like a few games I know of.
Same. Just a bit of extra polish, not development hell.
This is great news. I bought the Frozen wilds dlc the day it came out but did not play it. Now I will be able to experience it in 60 fps. Now we only need uncharted 4 and Bloodborne To be patched.
Oh yeah I haven’t done frozen wilds I forgot about it for some reason duh
I just hope this is the final data. Covid is a huge problem.
60fps patch is the news I am loving.
60 FPS on HZD will be a breath of fresh air
you mean..."breath of the wild"? LOL I kid...I kid
These delays are so frustrating.
2-3 months isn’t a big deal to me
Another masterpiece in the making
This was expected and Febs not too long...cant wait! Sony suggesting Ragnarok was ever coming in 2021 was deceitful and simply a reach to generate hype. Even if they could of got it ready to launch I personally think there is a fat chance in hell that Sony would ever release these two games within 6mths of each other at the bare minimum. GOD of War could be 2023 know, just saying. Don't really care either, as long as it's the game is as amazing as the last!
I wouldn't call it deceitful. Release dates are announced and pushed back all the time. That would make every developer and publisher in the industry "deceitful." Besides, they always disclaim that things are subject to change whenever they show trailers so that nobody later claims they were deceived. lol.
I don't think deceitful is a stretch. Obviously they had little to no chance of making this year. I'm thinking 3rd quarter 2022 probably almost a full year after what they were representing. Hey alls fair in love and God of War.
If they never intended of reaching the initial announced release window then its deceitful. That's obviously just speculation and a massive "if" though. I'm thinking last 1/4 of 2022 or feb/mar 2023. Sony have had plenty of success with those feb/mar launches.
Hell yeah! My PS5 is ready. :D
