The decade that began with the GameCube, PlayStation 2 and Xbox, and ended with the Wii, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, saw huge technical advances and remarkable innovations in storytelling and gameplay – these are the standout games of the noughties
Very opinionated list. But some of them on there deservedly Soo. But the 15 greatest? Not feeling it.
The great thing about the 2000s is that picking a top 15 list is actually quite difficult, and most people's lists are quite different. It's noticeably easier to do a top 15 for the 2010s due to a slow but noticeable decline in variety, innovation and quantity of big games as publishers started to take less risks in the years after recession. People often don't include indie games which are more deserving of some spots in their lists either so they're fairly predictable. I hope the 2020s overall will be an improvement. The scope of indie and AA games is getting bigger so they might be more easily able to fill in the gaps.
I'm confused about the variety and this list compared to 2010's variety. GTA, which in the 2010s there are a ton of open world games, not mention V and the release of RDR2 and more. Horror games, RES 7 is a great horror game, just to name one. Rhythm games are not as popular, but I see people playing them and buying them. There are a ton of narrative 3rd person games, and Zelda and Mario are still coming strong. Sims is still doing alright, first person shooters are everywhere. I suppose the only outlier here would be Bioshock and maybe guitar hero as for variety. At any rate, to me, it looks like the writer grafted a 2010's list to a 2000s one. And now if you go to any best games of the decade list (2010's), you will most likely see a huge variety of games to choose from to make an opinion list. It is even arguable that there is even more variety to choose from to make a list. One could easily put games like Bloodborne next to Disco Elysium which could be next to Witcher 3 which could be next to Xcom and so on. Actually, there were less good games to chose from pre 2010's.
Some terrible picks on there imo but each to there own. In no particular order my best 15 is as follows. GTA: vice city GTA: San andreas MGS3: snake eater MGS2: sons of liberty Final fantasy x God of war God of war 2 Resident evil 4 Zelda: Twilight princess Super smash bros melee Half life 2 Bioshock Halo Super mario galaxy Oblivion
All of those great games. Rez and Wii Sports are lol to me. I understand Wii Sports tho. Everyone in the world could make a top 15 list and be subjective. A decades too long to limit 15 games.
The dude actually edited out Wii Sports lol at least stand by your opinion. It's subjective, there's no wrong answer
Both of those games are still on the list, not edited out (#14 and #13). Some great games listed here, obviously, but I love hearing everyones lists and how much they can differ from each other.
No Demon's Souls on this list !!? No MGS3, no Super Mario Galaxy, no Half-life 2... This list is laughable.
It's a good list for a casual, but I feel mentioning Rez is worth it considering the fact that it's one of SEGA's underappreciated works along with Altered Beast and Jet Set Radio
I played Altered Beast to death.
Same It's a good one, to be honest, and it has an untapped potential IMO. This is an unpopular opinion, but I believe Altered Beast was Sega's answer to Capcom's Ghosts 'n Goblins franchise.
Splinter Cell Max Payne
Wii sports was innovate but the end result was not very good.
How could they miss Demon's Souls (2009)?
Just look at 2K and Rockstar Mafia GTA Bioshock NBA 2K11 NFL 2K5 Borderlands
I regret clicking.
not even close to the 15 best, maybe his and thats it
Mass Effect Bioshock Fallout 3
