Switch Takes Japan's Entire Top 30 Software Chart, First Since 1988

If you keep up to date with our regular Japanese chart updates, you'll have spotted that Nintendo Switch games made up the entire top ten last week. That's actually a pretty common occurrence these days, but it turns out that last week's performance was even better than we could have imagined.

A combination of having a system readily available and software that's compelling to Japan will so that. Congrats Nintendo.

Sonic-and-Crash1399d ago (Edited 1399d ago )

i dont understand why Japan buys so fanatically Switch ....after the 3-4 good games it has , it literally collects dust nothing else to paly on it

the weird thing is that these 3-4 games (mario ,Zelda ,Animal Cross) are bought by millions....without being that much of masterpieces or even have so much content) ...and this ends up an avalanch effect where Japanese devs dont see other consoles interesting to develop (namely Sony)

P S Sony s big mistake was that lost control of Naughty Dog ...they let them create whatever theywant and went from ultra successfull platfomer maker and Japan Juggernaught (with Crash and Jak 1) to violent shoot em up and slaughter anyone with Lat of Us and Uncharted which pushed away japan and SOny lost of the best developers for their inland market ....tragic mistake

ZeekQuattro1399d ago

I mean if the top 30 games are on the Switch it sounds like Japan has plenty to play on it. Not every game has to be a masterpiece either to be enjoyable and sell millions.

Neonridr1399d ago (Edited 1399d ago )

you lost me at 3-4 good games. Why not just say you are a Sony fan and Sony only and call it a day instead?

Loadedklip1399d ago

I never seen someone get zero likes and all down votes before. Congrats???

ScootaKuH1398d ago

I don't agree with you but I gave you an update because I feel sorry for you

gold_drake1398d ago (Edited 1398d ago )

because alot of japanese people are always on the go.
school, work, travel etc. they're always busy as hell.
if id be always away from home, u better believe the switch will accompany me everytime and id buy games for it.

This is impressive, but there is a downside for Nintendo. When the Wii was selling this impressively, so was the Nintendo DS. With the Switch, Nintendo had to combine two of their platforms into one.

Edit: I want to emphasis how great this is for Nintendo. They are changing the landscape with this hybrid much like they did with the Wii. Very few companies can pull this off. Look forward to the Steam Deck.

Concertoine1398d ago

Less money on hardware means customers have more for software. Also they can focus all their dev teams on one platform.

NotoriousWhiz1398d ago (Edited 1398d ago )

While the Wii has very strong hardware sales, I don't think it did nearly as well with software. The Switch is killing it on both fronts.

Edit: after some research, the Wii did pretty good in software as well, although the numbers are a tad inflated because they include Wii Sports at 80 million sold which was a free pack in title since launch.

DefaultComment1398d ago

But the same thing could be said from the PSP Vita and the ps4 mate.

roadkillers1398d ago

Maybe... but the Vita was not a success.

Acecalibur1398d ago

Yeah..........we never getting a powerful Switch at this point. It's a wrap.

NotoriousWhiz1398d ago

Switch 2 should be coming within the next 4 years. And by then we'll probably also have the Ps5 pro / Xbox series elite

Outlawzz1398d ago

That's great for Nintendo. I've admittedly been less interested in the switch since the steamdeck was announced.

Big third party announcements don't really matter anymore since they'll play better on the steamdeck.

Not sure it's 'as bad' as CP2077 as far as crashing and whatnot. It's just not as good of a game, so that makes the issues stand out more.

There's full walkthrough out there if you want to see the game for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/wat...

If your model is a bigger world with monthly content, the initial IP for this structure has to be great!
It doesn’t have to be long, and the cheapest the better, but it’s a good concept.
Create a game that’s solid and sell for cheap and offer monthly content for a price. But no one will buy it if the first entry is terrible.

I bought Gears of War: UE on disk when it launched. I received a code for Gears of War: Reloaded. Originally, I believed only people who owned digital copies of Gears of War:UE would receive free copies of Reloaded.

darthv729h ago

Was wondering if the physical peeps would be able to partake, seeing as they have made every effort to stress "digital only" in all of their marketing material. I too have the disc, but then again I also have GPU so I'm good either way.

Profchaos8h ago

Yeah how did you get that as i also have the disc

Sciurus_vulgaris7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

I can’t remember if I ever claimed Gears UE with the now defunct Games with Gold program. I’m also subbed to Gamepass Ultimate . Lastly I did play Gears 5 a week ago.

Tacoboto7h ago

I only bought the disc on Xbox One too, but I got a code yesterday. Somehow.

I don't recall the game being a part of Games with Gold either - I know Gears 5 was. I wonder if they're just being extra generous for certain cases (i.e. Physical owners who are also subscribed to or have maintained a sub for extended time to Game Pass Ultimate?)

Profchaos8h ago

I won't get one considering I own a physical disc on xbox one

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH7h ago

I heard physical owners have gotten a code as well so you just might get lucky.

Tacoboto7h ago

Yep - I responded above but I got a code as well despite being a physical owner of the game. There's definitely some other criteria besides what they've publicly said.

Popsicle4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

I own a physical copy ultimate edition and have it installed. No code :(

Could be because even though I owned the disc and installed it, the game ran through my old gamepass subscription because it shows 0 hours logged.

Could also be that I cancelled gamepass along time ago and do not subscribe to any tier. Or maybe just bad luck. Who knows 🤷

ocelot077h ago

Got one yesterday for pc. Just as I pre ordered it on ps5 lol.
