The Ascent review - descent into cyberpunk - Metro

Back before the release of Cyberpunk 2077 one of the questions we asked of developer CD Projekt Red was whether they were worried that the concept of cyberpunk has never enjoyed any real mainstream success. Both Blade Runner films were flops and while the sub-genre certainly has its fans it’s not something that has ever been widely popular. Given the failures of Cyberpunk 2077 that status is unlikely to change anytime soon, and The Ascent definitely does not help the situation.

really gotta disagree here. 3 is essentially broken and awful. The game is at least a 6 or 6.5. Just beat the first mission

Oof, I first was interested in it because it looked like Alienation, which my brother and I had a blast with. But they're comparing it to Diablo now, which got me more interested.. lol

Hopefully I can overlook the flaws or maybe they're being to harsh.

I plan to play through all of it with my brother so I also hope the story progression carries over to him and achievements.

It feels like a slow alienation which made it feel sluggish for the first hour. Loot may pick up later on, but I've been given 2 guns and a grenade within the first 30-60mins.

Reviews say it's really slow to get into, a good 1-3 hours before it picks up.

Most reviews say it picks up after the beginning. I'm glad it's on gamepass. I'll give it a try.

I’d say the game was shit on because they promised a bunch of features that were never in the game and never clarified before launch, but keep making up scenarios in your own head. Also, it was shit on by people other than Xbox people.

I've been having a good time with it, the first hour or two is slow, but once you get past that the game really starts to become fun. I've been playing all day, and this is def not a 3 in my eyes, I'd say a 7 is absolutely fair here.

I have to agree that the map is completely useless, and I would actually remove it altogether and would provide on-screen indicators of where your teammates or enemies are located (it's hard to figure out who to shoot). It seems that the reviewer took down 2 points for this map alone, which is ridiculous. Definitely playable even w/o looking it.

Yeah ... no.
A 3 is a broken game. I have it downloaded, but haven't tried it yet.
But trusted reviewers like ACG were gushing over this thing, and never brought up it having a laundry list of stability issues and glitches.

There's different between not liking something, and creating a hit piece.

It's slow but gorgeous game. Maybe just get past the first bit. It's definitely nowhere near a 3/10. It's between a 6 and 7 so far. There's always that one guy screaming for attention.

I don't hate on people who enjoyed DS, but I found it to be one of the most stale, monotonous gaming experiences I've had.

I gave the thing a fair shot, but it was not for me. Luckily I grabbed it when Redbox was getting rid of their game selections.
It had just came out, and they had it for $20. Was able to sell it for a good profit at least.

I actually made a few hundred that way, buying out the local Redboxes lol.

I only played an hour and I was getting large fps drops that I gave up. Was not an enjoyable experience. Plus the start of the game is really slow. Was hoping for more loot to drop across the board. But it's just a crawl at the moment. I may try again today.

Skill Up is a really solid reviewer.
We don't see eye to eye on every game, but he's thorough, and honest in his viewpoints.

He, ACG, and GGGman are my go-to reviews when I'm on the fence on a game. We share views in a lot of ways, so I know when to buy-in or stay away.

only played like an hr of the game so far and I think a three is really harsh. I'll put it up to at least 6or7. Matchmaking would be a welcomed addition to the game but so far visually it's stunning, gameplay is fun and it made by such a small team that you should feel more forgiving of the score and any overlooks the game has.

Whoever wrote this review shouldn't be allowed to review games. This game is nowhere near broken or unplayable and giving a game a score 3/10 would suggest that it is broken. It's the most fun I've had all year and definitely not a 3/10. I understand people are entitled to their own opinion but when your opinion has a motive then your opinion is not valid.
