I'd be more interested to know the breakdown of how the two consoles make up that figure. Anyone aware of this being available?

darthv7258d ago

It doesnt really matter but i understand your curiosity. I mean we never really knew what the ratio of Pro/Slim or XBO S/X were, but if you want to entertain some sort of ratio... i know it isnt 50/50. Prob not even 60/40 but closer to 70/30. 70 for X and 30 for S. But despite not knowing the delta between them... the Series line is doing good for itself.

on a side note, I had said a few weeks ago that both PS5 and Series would be crossing 10m and 6m around the same time. Strong sales for both Sony and MS.

TheDoomedGuy57d ago

Big difference between the standard and mid gen refresh. They didn't launch at the same time.

This gen MS decided to release the next gen console along with a last gen console.

darthv72

I don't know if we will ever get that data bit would be very interesting to see the early numbers. Because these consoles aren't readily available people who want one with disk drive could end up getting all digital if they don't have a choice.

On topic

Already 4+ million difference between PS5/Xbox and that gap will only widen but I do think we are in this generation where this Xbox console will sell 75+ million while PS5 will sell 100+

Orchard57d ago

@TheDoomedGuy Which last gen console did they launch in November? I must have missed that.

DeusFever57d ago (Edited 57d ago )

The Xbox Series X/S breakdown is essential information for developers including Microsoft owned developers. If the Series S doesn’t sell enough, Microsoft will drop it and developers won’t support it. (Remember the Xbox One X?)

4Sh0w57d ago (Edited 57d ago )

Nah it makes perfect sense that some prefer consoles over pc AND they want the better performance CONSOLE (personally Id never buy the S over the X). Im not a kid I make pretty good money so I could buy pretty much the latest high end gaming pc no problem, but I dont bc I prefer my console, back in the day I did have a gaming pc, it always reminded me more of work, always tweeking settings, updates etc, its not rocket science I just prefer the ease of the console environment, on my big screen, always have....its not hard to understand.

TheDoomedGuy57d ago

They don't give the breakdown because they don't want you knowing.

Really doesn't matter much. since all the games this gen will run on both. There's literally no reason to get a series x for someone using gamepass. 300 vs 500 is a no brainer for me if i use gamepass only.

Orchard57d ago

I use GamePass and I want a Series X - just because I'm a GamePass customer doesn't mean I don't want higher quality visuals and framerates...

TheDoomedGuy57d ago (Edited 57d ago )

@orchard

But that makes no logical sense. First it's not my fault Ms decided to release a weaker console at the beginning of a new gen. And second it makes no sense because if you want better fidelity and frames then you go PC.

That way you get the best if both worlds. Gamepass plus mouse and keyboard for strategy and rpg top down games.

NotoriousWhiz57d ago

Good luck getting a high end PC for $500. Also there are numerous console gamers that just aren't interested in the customization / configuration aspects of gaming on a PC.

TheRealTedCruz57d ago (Edited 57d ago )

So games on gamepass don't take advantage of the extra power of the X vs S; therefore can't justify the price difference.

That's the only case where your comment would make any sense. The price difference affords you better hardware across the board, and most companies tailor their games to both pieces of tech.

"But that makes no logical sense. First it's not my fault Ms decided to release a weaker console at the beginning of a new gen. And second it makes no sense because if you want better fidelity and frames then you go PC."

Uhm, they have different hardware for a reason.
You buy the S if you want to save money for less power.
You buy the X if you don't mind spending money for more power.

All any of these consoles are, nowadays, are PCs in a specific shell.
Virtually every game that comes out is scalable.

TheDoomedGuy57d ago

@tedcruz

The price difference is of course due to power. One machine is a last gen console in power and the other is a next gen console.
But when it comes to games both will play the same games.

So the difference isn't the games... The difference can only be in performance. In that department if you really want to spend more and get the best experience using gamepass then you'd go PC. And even if you weren't using gamepads you could still go PC because they play all the same games.

So the preference has to be very superficial and specific. You would have to want the higher fps and performance and would have to be willing to pay more but not so much more as to get a PC. And then again all you'd really get is paying 500$ for a disc drive you don't really need and 4k experience with a variable fps.

Whereas you could just pay 300...likely be able to get a Series S sooner than getting the series X and you'd be playing 1080p 30 which up until not too long ago was a good thing in console. Not too long ago means last gen...hence why it's more of a last gen console than current.

TheDoomedGuy57d ago

@notorious

If you don't already own a base PC then yeah you'd have to spend a lot to invest in one. Probably around 800-1000 for a powerful enough PC to compare and surpass the series x.

But if you already had a base PC chances are all you really need to spend is maybe 300$ to upgrade to the next tier.

But that's besides the point since I'm saying specifically for the people using gamepass since that's an all digital approach and there already a machine that is meant for that approach at 300$

As long as the game works at 1080p that should be satisfactory for the majority of tvs out there.

Orchard57d ago (Edited 57d ago )

@TheDoomedGuy

"But that makes no logical sense"

It makes no logical sense that some people may want a 4K console to play GamePass content? why? It's not like the content is SNES games...

I have a PC, I still prefer to play most games on a console, sitting in the comfort of my living room on a couch. I mainly use the PC for PC exclusives (very few), RTS and FPS. My PC also costs a LOT more than $499.

X and S both appeal to two different markets. Not everyone has a 4K TV, or cares about 120hz or the best graphics, perhaps they just want to play annual sports games and MC + Fortnite - those people buy an S. Some people also don't have $499 to sink into a games console, and $299 is a great entry point to play every next-gen game that comes out for the next 5-10 years. And then more hardcore gamers like myself will buy an X. This really isn't hard to understand...

onisama57d ago (Edited 57d ago )

You may think that way but th actual world may surprise you.... I got a gaming pc but i bought series x so i can sleep on my bed and play... And from my experience i ended multiple games on consoles than on my pc because i feel uncomfortable sitting and playing for hours... I only play fps multiplayer games on pc

TheDoomedGuy57d ago

@orchard

So you have a good PC and you claim you can't play comfortably on the couch.

You can just put it in your living room. Now it makes even less sense that you want to do specifically 4k and whatever fps the series x gives for each given game instead of higher for both on your PC.

One is an estimated number from vgchartz, the other is official numbers by Sony, would be curious to see how close to reality are these estimates

darthv7257d ago

Pretty close. VGC said sony passed 10m last week and now the official word from Sony is... yep, we did.

derek57d ago

@Darth, but vgchartz has actual data from Sony as a reference point. Microsoft has never shared their sales numbers ever.

TheDoomedGuy57d ago

I guess the supposed outselling playstation last month was either a fluke or not entirely true. They did change the metric so...hmm

Amazing that Sony already managed 10million within it's first year and during a pandemic and refusal to sell in stores.

Zeref57d ago (Edited 57d ago )

It outsold the PS5 in the US. Not the world.

There's actually a good chance that Xbox will take back the US this generation though. But I don't see them overtaking PS5 worldwide.

waverider57d ago

the ps5 is breaking records on US...

Zeref57d ago

@waverider
And yet the Xbox outsold it, so what's your point?

57d ago
IRetrouk57d ago

It was around 6 thousand in front for one month, next month ps5 was around 8 thousand infront, I dont think that's shows ms taking the US back...well see though, stranger things have happened.

derek57d ago

There's actually no chance

bro you sound like an Ad ...relax it's not that serious... chill out nobody is going to outsell sony worldwide, we get that!!!

LOGICWINS57d ago

Imagine promoting a company and not getting paid for it 😆

TheRealTedCruz57d ago

@logicwins

Here on N4G, people do it for Sony 24/7. You don't seem to mind it then, for some reason.

:^)

TheDoomedGuy57d ago (Edited 57d ago )

Wasn't referring to worldwide though.
The article in question never did say that Xbox sold more units. Sooo....now suddenly they're not selling more in dollars spend or whatever.

derek57d ago

@tedcruz and you're right there in every article whining about it.

TheRealTedCruz57d ago (Edited 57d ago )

@Derek

Says the one who can't seem to not trash talk one company, all the while constantly praising another.

It's free for everyone to check both our comment history. Would be interesting to see who comes off as the corporate shill lol.
I enjoy both what MS and Sony offer. I'm happy to say as much.
You're just a fanboy, and I find it hilarious you're so biased you seemingly remember the things you notice I post, when it comes to being negative towards Sony; though the positives I often point towards the company seemingly doesn't even register to you.

roboteye57d ago

It's not a stretch to think that MS sent most of their Xbox to US for the month of E3 while for Sony it's business as usual.

DJStotty57d ago

Scalpers do not want the Series though, it is the PS5 that has been majorly scalped, pushing that figure to 10 million.

RedDevils57d ago

I sold It on Ebay a month ago. for about $1k lmao I found the SX is a waste of money on my end. I will buy when it has real games.

Promachos57d ago (Edited 57d ago )

I own a high end PC (6900xt - 5800x - 32gb system memory - ssd 980 pro) and for some reason I prefer my Series X > PS5. Am I going crazy?

57d ago
NeoGamer23257d ago (Edited 57d ago )

I have high end PC equipment too.

I like consoles because:

1) I just plug them in, turn them, on and they are ready for games
2) They have a nice user interface for the TV
3) I don't need to use keyboard and mouse - Just pick up easy to use controller

But, I do prefer playing strategy games on PC because the consoles don't have a s rich of UI for them.

Also, though i work in tech, so sitting at my pc often reminds me of work, where as sitting with a console is more "away from work".

John_McClane57d ago

@TheDoomedGuy I have an Xbox Series S and it's definitely not a last gen console, it runs circles around my Xbox one X.

iplay1up257d ago

No it isn't last gen. Your X1X is 40% more powerful than the PS4 Pro. From what I have read Series S has roughly 50% more power than the X1X. So yeah your S is not last gen.

The S doesn't even try and target 4K, so that gives it WAY more processing power for graphics and FPS.
