Switch OLED Won't Fix The Console's Performance Problems And That's Unacceptable

We aren't getting the Switch Pro just yet, so it's a shame the OLED already falls short.

That’s why I won’t be picking one up. I’ll wait for Switch 2 assuming it’s a worthy upgrade.

waverider1392d ago

it will take a lot of time for the Switch 2. They are selling like crazy. Nintendo is doing tons of money on each Switch sold, because its ancient hardware and very cheap. Their gamers dont care about graphics.

@Jin

I agree completely, I'm getting the Steam Deck so if the Switch 2 isn't at least on par, I'm probably skipping Nintendo next-gen, as I'm sure a Steam Deck 2 would likely come out a once 5nm APUs release (most likely holiday 2023), and it's going to offer easily 2x the performance of the current Steam Deck (and hopefully a cellular model). So Nintendo is on a time crunch for me considering a Switch 2 is likely coming holiday 2022 or Spring 2023, and at that point I'd just wait.

They'll always make a handheld, because it's been their bread and butter since the original Gameboy, but I hope they make a home console at least on par with the Xbox Series S. The Series S is $299, and Nintendo can do their usual cuts and nerfs to certain aspects of the hardware to make sure they get their Day 1 profit as that seems to be their main priority for hardware.

They can realistically go with a Zen 2 6C/12T CPU, a similar GPU, 12GB of RAM, and a 128GB SSD. That's all they really need for their console.

@waverider

Nintendo cut the Wii short and it was receiving the same sells success in a harder buying period. They usually keep their systems for 5 years, on occasion 6.

The Switch will be 5 years old March 2022, so it's about to get replaced. If we don't hear about it this year, it's most likely not going to be announced until Spring / E3 / or TGS next year, with either a holiday 2022 or spring 2023 release (whenever Breath of the Wild 2 releases), but 2022 is the last year of the Switch.

maybe if the sales of the system start to suddenly fall like brick like the Wii did before they announced the Wii U, they might do it. if not, they are just going to ride this gravy train for as long as they can. they don't even have to make new games, you see. all they have to do is remaster some old games and slap $60 and a complimentary Pokemon game every year = PROFIT!

enough to make their fanboys happy, so why take risks, right?

z2g1391d ago (Edited 1391d ago )

Gamers: we want a more capable portable system!
Nintendo: how about the same system with a different screen??!
Gamers: uhh that doesn’t really fix….
Valve: hold my beer… *steam deck*
Stores: we’re sold out of steam decks.

gold_drake1391d ago

oh my god, if i read steam deck one more time, ima lose my mind lol.

Are you autistic? Why do you type like that, like you're having a fictional conversation with yourself?

JEECE1391d ago

Groan. Half steps are stupid. Putting out a "Switch Pro" won't fix the performance of games on the 85+ million Switches already out there, just like PS4 Pro didn't fix PS4 and One X didn't fix the One.

EmperorDalek1391d ago

It's not that the performance needed fixing on any of those consoles. It's more to keep gamers who want better performance occupied until the next proper generation, without alienating those who don't want to buy a new one yet. It's too soon for a Switch 2, which is why a Pro would be ideal.

Levii_921391d ago

I don't think we are getting a Switch Pro at all :))

gold_drake1391d ago

yeh they basically confirmed it that we wont.

InklingGirl1391d ago

I'm wiling to bet we will see some improvements in a small way, think about it the Switch will almost five years old when it's release I'm sure the storage speed will be a bit faster and maybe a faster clock on the ram or CPU?

We've seen for example with higher capacity iPhones the storage speed is faster than the smaller storage options so maybe? I don't know.
