Following a surprise announcement a few days back, PC gaming behemoth Valve's Steam Deck has gained quite a bit of traction among gamers. Comparisons are being drawn to Nintendo's much successful Switch hybrid console, particularly due to the Deck's similar handheld form factor. Here is a take on why it doesn’t make sense to compare the Deck to the Switch. Nintendo’s 2017 ARM-based portable might have far weaker hardware but that’s still not going to tip the scales in the Deck’s favor like many might seem to think.

Why does it have to be a Switch killer? It plays totally different games and not direct competition besides being a handheld. It's like comparing PC gaming to the Nintendo gaming. They both exist in parallel universes

“No shit”
You're not bursting any bubble. Anyone with a brain knows the Steam Deck isn't a Switch killer, but that doesn't mean it can't be successful in its own right. I can't wait for mine
It doesn’t need to be. Different platforms can appeal to different users and offer unique value. I have a ton of Switch content and Deck won’t replace that. However I was early in line to preorder SteamDeck for a lot of reasons. I’m extremely excited to finally capitalize on making my massive Steam Sale backlog more accessible so I can start to enjoy more of it, more of the time. I’m not convinced SteamDeck will work well offline though, so my Switch collection isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
