Is Innovation a Dirty Word?

Screen Play: "I think it is safe to say that it has been a great 12 months for gaming (or at least for games). But with the release of so many great games, there has been an equal amount of "PR" from game developers, and the word that seems to be on the tip of everyone's tongue is "innovation". Everyone seems to be looking for innovation, pushing innovation, developing innovation or simply talking about innovation.

I love "innovative games", but the word scares me as much as it excites me. Why? Because it is misleading.

In its simplicity, innovation is the introduction of new things or methods. But game developers use it as a marketing tool to sell games. It is used as a metaphor, suggesting "the next best thing" or "a new form of gaming" or even worse... "the future of gaming"."

Every other dev and marketing salesman throw around that word. When not nearly even 10 percent of the games that PR guys use it have a exceptional feature that you'd call "innovative". Rehashing or refining what was done already isn't "innovative" it's a rehash, a reimaging etc. I'm glad i'm not the only person who notices this.
