Times Online writes: "This fifth instalment of the popular Call of Duty series prides itself on its realism. You play initially as a US marine and later as a Russian soldier fighting the Germans in the second world war. The game is dark, inventive and very powerful, with plenty of ambushes and plot twists to provide relentless intensity. Atmospheric effects are particularly striking, such as the sudden flares that bleach the night sky. There are some additional elements, such as more dramatic destruction of scenery and new weapons, the latter including a flamethrower."
