Twenty Five Years Later and Tekken 2 Still Reigns Supreme

After twenty five years, Tekken 2 is still a tremendous title that many modern contemporaries have yet to recapture the magic of.

Tekken 2 was good, but Tekken 3 pretty much set the standard for 3D games going forward.

I liked that Streets of Rage style game mode as well. It had more stuff to do if you got bored of the normal modes.

Gotta agree on Tekken 3 being amazing. Played the sh*t out of that game

First 3D fighting game = VF1
First fighting game with characters having movable fingers, not just one big-fisted polygon = VF1
First fighting game with animated faces in 3D, not just a flat-shaded texture = VF1
First fighting game with reversals = VF1
First fighting game with fully 3D backgrounds = VF2
First fighting game where you see opponents actually track the other opponent by moving their head = VF2

Wasn't until Tekken 3, that Namco finally caught up with Sega on realism. There's a reason why Virtua Fighter is in the Smithsonian museum, and Tekken is not.

Tekken 2 was the best. With 3 they sped it up and took away some of the weight.

Tekken 2 was an amazing start to the franchise but Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection was the peak of the series.

I’m not a huge tekken fan, but two was the best. It got really bloated and silly after 3. Always liked two it had a more serious tone with Some great music.

Virtua Fighter 2 was a better game everywhich way. Of course Virtua Fighter 2 wasn't a Playstation game. The Sega Saturn had superior fighting games yet Saturn was nowhere near as popular as the new kid on the block Sony console

Tekken 2 was my first Tekken, back when I only got 2 games a year if I was lucky, I put so many hours into it. I mained
nearly every character at some point until I got to grips with Kazuya, mastering his 10-hit combo. Tekken 3 was excellent, but no Kazuya was a let down for me. Yoshimitsu did look super badass in T3 though.

Was just something magical and legendary about tekken 2, I cant really explain it. You had to be there at that time to understand.

Every Tekken up to 5 innovated in some way. I’d go with 3 myself with the sheer number of excellent new fighters.
